This year has not been one to remember for the Chicago Bulls. It has been a season that has sported a 10-22 start, a 30-37 record, and a disappointing season by Joakim Noah. The Bulls have high expectation and have not lived up to those expectations this year. Though in the mist of all that, the Bulls still have a shot to make the playoffs. Part or the reason this is still possible, is that they have one six of their last nine games. So what suddenly clicked? Is it the players, the coach, the lack of chemistry, or a very simple justification?
First 58 Games:
Points Per Game:98.7
Points Allowed:103.1
During 6-3 Streak:
Points Per Game:97.4
Points Allowed:93.8
The Bulls have completely changed their game in the past two weeks. They acquired Richard "Rip" Hamilton, and this acquisition might have given them the edge that they needed. Noah has stepped up and played the defense that we all knew he was capable of. Rip must have been that click, because Pierce is playing at a very high level right now, both offensively and defensively. Let's look into another possible scenario that might have been helpful for the Bulls to maintain this play. During the Bulls' first 32 games they had a combined total of 4 games off. Yes you read it right, only four games off total. Because of the packed schedule at the beginning of the year, they have had more days off between games, which allowed them to come out fresh. Just recently they had a whole week off. Yes, you read once again. The combination of the rest, lack of fatigue, and Rip's acquisition has developed into a very good gameplay. They have retained their defensive team status, and they make the opposing team pay for every point. If they continue with this gameplay, I believe they will beat off the Piston's for the last spot of the playoffs. If they fall back into their old habits, to the lottery they will go.
Road to the Playoffs:
Bulls @ Magic
Suns @ Bulls
Bulls @ Heat
Bulls @ 76ers
Bulls @ Hornets
Heat @ Bulls
Bulls @ Clippers
Magic @ Bulls
Bulls @ Pacers
Bulls @ Pacers
Bulls @ Cavaliers
Cavaliers @ Bulls
Bulls @ Raptors
Bulls @ Timberwolves
Hornets @ Bulls
The Bulls certainly will not have an easy schedule ahead. They are going to have to earn every win. These last few games will show how mentally tough the Bulls are, and how much they can take. These last games will certainly have headlines. The Bulls just hope that their headlines are good ones.
