The Sun Finally Rises for Sun Yue

Sun Yue was drafted last year by the Lakers in the second round. Back then he just seemed like a skinny kid who maybe wouldn't ever be ready for the NBA.

Sun is not even close to being the biggest star in China. However, he brings an unual skill set by being able to play point guard at 6'9". The last Laker to be able to do that was Magic Johnson. Coach Jackson has always preferred tall PG's to run his Triangle offense.

With the Chinese national basketball team, Sun has alternated coming off the bench with Chen Jianghua, behind the team's starting PG Liu Wei. He was initially slated as the top point guard for China by the 2008 Olympic Basketball Tournament in Beijing, with his exceptional size and passing ability, but with the rise of Chen, there is now doubt as to who will be the better Chinese point guard in the future.

During the Orlando Pre-Draft camp, he was measured with a 34" vertical leap, a 6'9" wingspan, a 8'9" standing reach, a 5.1% body fat ratio, and a time of 10.68 seconds (ranking in the top 3 times at the camp) in lane agility.

For the Lakers he could come off the bench and possibly play PG, SG, or SF.

YOUR vertical is higher? I don't know you, but I have a really hard time believing that.

Kobe's vertical is reportedly only 38 inches - so I don't know why this is an issue, it's

Thanks for the correction, sometimes I write things from pure memory and I did this one a 1AM in the morning. I also thought that 34 was not much of a verticle leap but that was what was reported in my one source. It could be wrong.
