This might be premature but Denver is blowing out Minny and Dallas is getting blown it with 1 quarter to go. So the Odds are that Denver is our first round opponent.

Now, with that being said, how many games will it take us to beat this game? I think we win in 6 games (Drop games 3-4) and we will also Metta back in the second round.

What are the Keys to winning? I think it's our bench, their the deepest team in the league and we have to match their bench's intensity.

Scouting the Nuggets, Lakers’ 1st-round opponent
April 26th, 2012, 7:09 pm · · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

Here are some relevant factoids to brush up on the state of the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers’ first-round playoff opponent:
-The Lakers won the regular-season series, 3-1.
-Denver’s depth is depleted by two significant out-for-the-season injuries: Wilson Chandler and Rudy Fernandez.
-Sixth Man of the Year candidate Al Harrington is playing through a torn meniscus in his right knee.
-Denver’s ability to rival the Lakers’ Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol was lessened by its March 15 trade of Nene to Washington for center JaVale McGee, who is a high-upside shot-blocker with limited focus. Kosta Koufos and Timofey Mozgov are big but limited options for Denver at center.
-Point guard Ty Lawson’s speed has overwhelmed the Lakers before, and he is being turned loose more than ever to seek his own shot by Nuggets coach George Karl " with Lawson’s 3-point shot also now a big-time weapon.
-UCLA product Arron Afflalo is a capable defender against Kobe Bryant, and Corey Brewer has emerged recently to give Denver another versatile defender.
-Small forward Danilo Gallinari didn’t have the breakout season largely expected, shooting inconsistently in scoring 14.5 points per game, but he’s back from a thumb injury.
-Rookie Kenneth Faried has continued his Morehead State ability to get rebounds, no matter what, and is Denver’s starting power forward because of it. But the “Manimal” is listed at 6-foot-8 and said to be really 6-6, so he’ll be challenged against 7-foot Pau Gasol.

i don't think Utah will be easy for the spurs they have 4 bigs that can frustrate Duncan. Kanter,Favors,Jefferson and Millsap all are very skilled. their backcourt aren't too shabby either.

Lakers must control the pace of the game. If we get into a race or shootout with Denver (or almost any team), we will lose. If we play controlled, move the ball fluidly, and take advantage of our dominance down low, we should be fine.

I totally agree with you....+ if we can take away Denver's transition basket or fast-break pts we should be fine....

I can see Coach Karl asking Miller to be more aggressive....break us done on half-court....as he did in our last game against them...

I hope McGee will not have a good series....and pick up non-sense early foul and show us some no-brainer plays to amuse us...

I think Lakers can sweep. Who do they have to stop Bynum? What about Pau? Kobe?

The only thing that potentially worries me in Denver's depth. They are at least 7-8 guys deep. But Faried vs gasol is VERY favorable, and they have no star that can take it over. I say 5 games.

I ran it 20 times, and it gave me the Heat 18/20 times haha. It's only based on power rankings at the moment...no way OKC has a 90% over LAL 10% win chance.

I ran it probably 10+ and the Nuggets upsets about 7 times. Didn't bother continuing it was frustrating lmao.

I think this is a good open opponent for us. Lakers need to smash this team and don't play down to their level. If the lakers struggle against this team...

We might win it in 5 games, but 6 would be better. We win all 4 home games and get Metta to start the second round.

I think the Lakers can sweep the Nuggets if they wanted to...However, facing OKC in the second round...I think lakers will experiment with their lineup
and lose those two road games in Denver in the process to gain MWP just in time for OKC...(4-2Lakers). I do think in the second round that the Lakers
get blown out in GM1vsOKC and whoever wins GM2 wins the series there.

Lakers in 6. I know they're deep but our Size is just gonna be too much for em. Our bigs are easily the Key to this series, i expect afflalo to shut kobe down to be honest.

The Lakers will miss Metta World Peace tremendously, even against Denver. He has bottled up Gallinari nearly every time we've faced Denver, so that might not happen this go around. Additionally Peace is able to cover normally for the defensive weaknesses of our guards. Now there's no place to hide. So, the bottom line is that this will be a much tougher series than fans expect. My only hope is that the team doesn't take them as lightly as many fans do.

Pau Gasol will be a key offensively. He needs to score efficiently with Bynum likely drawing a lot of attention. And he needs to not always settle for the mid-range shots.

Even more importantly, the Lakers need to find their defensive identity once again. Absolutely everyone has to raise their game on defense and communicate as a team. That's the part that will be very tough with their best defensive player out on suspension.

Lakers in 6. Split 1-1 in LA. Split 1-1 in Denver. Lakers win game 5 back in LA and then close out in Denver in game 6.

The Lakers are notorious for giving up leads, so no going "easy" on the Nuggets. They're more than talented enough to obliterate the Lakers if the Lakers play nonchalantly. I have no predictions on the game, but if the Lakers play with energy for a full 48 minutes, they'll probably win the series.

Keys to the series? Limit the Nuggets' transition points by controlling the pace of the game and defend the post. Once the game goes into the half court, it's Bynum and Gasol's game.

I'm worried...........not going to lie.

I absolutely hate this year's POs esp. on Westside since it's so goddamn unpredictable!

Lawson is gonna give us headaches slicing his way into the paint. Their transition is gonna be killer although I expect Ebanks to help out on that side.

No one can stop Pau and Bynum on Denver. So the key is to go to them. Kobe hasn't had a lot of success with Denver this season ( or the previous one ) so I hope Kobe realizes not to force the issue UNLESS the team's down for the count.

The series will be decided in 6 games with LAL coming out on top.

Off-topic, the hell is it with the West this season??? LAL needs to go through OKC, Denver and either the Spurs or Memphis. Spurs need to get through Memphis, Utah and either of Dal/OKC or LAL. OKC needs to go through Dallas, Lakers and probably the Spurs or Memphis.

This sh*t is awesome!!!! I need to load up on supplies cause it's gonna be one hell of a roller-coaster. BTW, how many upsets can you guys see out here???

I can see Utah upsetting Spurs with their ridiculous length at the top and Hayward playing the 2. I can see Philly upsetting Chicago and Boston beating Atlanta.

I am just glad Lakers not playing Memphis in the 1st round... That could easily have been an upset, or not an upset at all. Memphis and Spurs are only two teams that scare me, not even OKC. Dallas also matches up well with OKC, so if we get lucky, we might end up facing Denver, Dallas, and Memphis and get home court throughout! The chances are kinda low but I totally see Memphis upsetting Spurs.

Lakers all the way... win or lose im game baby, my prediction, 4-1 Lakers can handle the Nuggets but every game is a tight game..

keys to Laker victory.. well, Focus and their passion for the game, i don't doubt our rosters talent, but their passion for the game is what i am concerned of

I ran it 20 times, and it gave me the Heat 18/20 times haha. It's only based on power rankings at the moment...no way OKC has a 90% over LAL 10% win chance.

On my first time Spurs won.

My main concern is Sessions. He played well at first, but he has slowly dropped off. He can't guard the quicker pg's, and one disturbing fact is that he misses a lot of free throws. We can't have our pg missing ft's. Other than that, I think we have the advantage. Bynum and Gasol should have a great series. I expect to win in 5, but at the most 6.

great point! sessions somewhat is like holding back or something...Was he trying to get a long term deal? did he get it? maybe that is one of the reason why he is playing this way?

The old timers told him to slow it down with his speed.

old timers you mean our coaches? then that is a big mistake they are making, Sessions can give other teams pressure if he run a fast pace offense for us which we don't have before...

Lakers must control the pace of the game. If we get into a race or shootout with Denver (or almost any team), we will lose. If we play controlled, move the ball fluidly, and take advantage of our dominance down low, we should be fine.

The Lakers have been confusing controlling tempo with playing slow. That is making it hard on Sessions right now because his biggest advantage in basketball is his speed. Slowing the tempo is no excuse for playing lazy. I agree with you that they need to control tempo, but not at the expense of moving quickly and also looking for easy buckets of their own. If they simply play slow, without good player movement, that will be even worse than trying to run with Denver.

Playing against a champion with a superstar is always dangerous, but I think the Lakers match up against Dallas much better than they do against Denver. Maybe Dallas will perk up and the Dirk of last year will suddenly reappear, but right now it looks like that guy no longer exists.

Well, at least Dirk was spectacular in leading his team to an NBA title before he went and got old overnight. LOL.

Jason Terry is the key to me. If he brings it like he did last postseason, esp the finals, the Mavs can surprise.

Get back on defense, rebound , and play will maximum effort every night, it's really quite simple. If the lakers do that this series will be over in 5 maybe 4.

This could have been a very easy series for us if Metta hadn't been suspended. But I still see us winning this series comfortably. We just have to slow the game down. The nuggets are not a good halfcourt set team.
