Most everything that has been happening to the Minnesota Timberwolves has been self-inflicted the last couple of years. Now the sins of management this season are playing out on the court. This is all again leading to the rumors resurfacing that KG is a goner, and possibly LA bound. KG is under performing his usual dominance of the EFF ratings. Last year he was the best in the NBA with a 33 EFF. Today it is still a lofty 29.5 EFF, but he is only 17th in the league in scoring. Has his skills diminished or is he just tired? Tired of management not putting enough talent around him to get to the next level?
Two seasons ago, with Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewel, and others around him, they went to the Western Conference Finals only to lose to the Lakers in the final game with Sam Cassell injured
GM Kevin Mchale couldn't stand all that success so he dismantled the team. He didn't sign Spree and traded for Marko Jaric, sending Sam Cassell to the Clippers where he is winning games for them night in and night out. Sam, is a 4th quarter player, KG is not. Moreover, there are also rumors that Marko Jaric isn't working out like they thought, so he is available.
So, in their last game before the big trade with the Celtics, it was such a dismal loss that McHale reportedly stormed into the locker room and let loose a tirade that was aimed mostly at KG. There were alot of expletive delectives, including in KG's repsonse that basicly told McHale that he could trade his..........."rear end."
All of this led to a major shake up in the form of a 7 player trade wtih the Celtics. The Timberwolves continue to lose. Are KG's days numbered?
Trade rumors are again swirling. KG is porbably one guy who can control his destination, one that could lead him to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last summer, KG purchased a home in Malibu and reportedly trashed talked Timberwolve management to locals in LA. He went to Laker summer league games with Kobe. He worked out with Kobe. Looking every bit like a guy looking for a new home.
In every other trade scenario out there, I have reported tha tthe Laker players who are off the table are Kobe, Lamar, and AB. But to get KG, Lamar would probably be gone, along with a couple of first round draft picks, Devean George and Slava (along with their expiring contracts).
If the Lakers could somehow pull this off and end up buildiing around Kobe, KG, Andrew Bynum, Smush, Kwame, Turiaf, Walton and Mihm, that would be a good start. They would still have Brian Grant' expiring contract that could create space to sign another player the summer after next. Minnesota would get Lamar, George, 2 fist round picks, and some expiring contracts to clear space to bring in players. This might work for a team in rebuilding mode. p> A team other than the Lakers will undoubledly make Minnesota a better offer, only because there are other teams with more to offer than the Lakers. But if KG only wants to come to LA, Minnesota might be forced to crank out the best deal they can from the Lakers. The only other team that could be in play is the Clippers, who also have more to offer that the Lakers. However, there isn't one shred of evidence I can find that KG has ever mentioned them. His former team mate, Sam Cassell, is a Clipper, but for how long?
Laker fans should pray that this eventually happens. Kobe and KG together is the beginning of reuilding a new Laker dynasty. They are a match made in Heaven. Kobe needs the ball, KG doesn't. KG has made his rep without needing to be the first option all the time. In the last 2 minutes of the game, it will still be Kobe's ball.
