JamFan The Los Angeles Lakers have set their roster for their 2006 entry in the Summer Pro League which begins this Saturday, July 8 at the Long Beach Pyramid located on the CSULB campus. The Lakers mix it up with Memphis at 3 PM. The Lakers will be showcasing their first round picks from the past 2 years, Andrew Bynum and Jordan Farmar. There is also a couple of interesting invitees. Nick Horvath, a 6'10" PF out of Duke, who has been playing professtionally in Austrailia with 21 PPG and 11 RPG, is on board. A former McDonalds All American and graduating senior from UCLA, Cedric Bozeman, a large 6' 6" SG/PG, fits the mold of large guards that Coach Jackson likes. His college career was marred by injuries early on, but played steady for the Bruins in his senior year, just not as the PG, that was Farmar's job. Other newcommers include JR Pinnock, a PG out of George Washington that the Lakers traded for on draft night using their 2nd round pick for next year. Also Miichael Fey, a 7' 270 lb. center and another graduating senior from UCLA, could be the 3rd center if Mihm gets traded. In my last article I showed how the Lakers have 13 roster postions set with only two openings. Barring a 2 or 3 for 1 player trade for a veteran PG, there isn't much room for Summer League players or our own free agents to make the squad. Von Wafer was just assigned to the NBADL. If the Lakers do trade for a PG, and Mihm and or/Cook are the bait, look for the Lakers to bring in a back up center with their 1.8 Mil exemption. There has been a lot of free agent signings and trades. Unfortunately the pickings are getting slimmer for the Lakers and most of their potential targets are gone. And they are currently not even in the rumor mill as working on any signings or trades. So, we turn our attention to the Summer League. Be on the lookout in your local listings as Fox just might televise some of the games. Or if you are in the mood, Long Beach isn't that far away for most SoCal fans and the tickets are cheap, like $12 or so. And you can watch more that one game if you like. The Roster Antwain Barbour

well, as far as the summer league squad goes, and i'm sure ya'll agree, thats a pretty good looking group! don't know why sasha always feels he needs to go. he's already got his contract. and, i dont mean to be rude, but after his last years summer league showing, i've seen enough of his ball hogging! maybe they should put him at the 2 guard during the summer league, and let farmar start at point. i mean, thats one of the main resons why we will all go anyway. and, what?! no Laron Profit? well hopefully he's fully healed and maybe he's just too advanced for the summer league anyway. interesting to see marcus douthit back in the line-up. he was said to be a real banger. although never making to lakers squad, after they drafted him, they never seem to forget his name. this just might be his year! von wafer the "wild horse".....going to the NBDL again. my take is that the lakers are keeping him around only for one thing. and no its not trade bait. he's a proven shooter, maybe even of the likes we've never seen before...lol... but the man will score. my spidey senses tell me that once he improves on his on-court decision making, look for him to be on the roster. everyones talking about the lakers making more trades....well, they should. although, if the lakers will be playing a more uptempo game (we pray) this season, the bunch they have, could possibly turn heads. sasha and von wafer are both shooters, not standing still but on the run, or off the dribble. the triangle doesnt suit alot of players, ie; ballhandlers that can break down a defense with dribble penetration, or that require the ball in there hands to get into a groove. unless your kobe, ok and jordan. just remember how exciting if was when the four corners would run the floor...well, 3 corners, kobe, malone and payton ran, shaq kinda trotted down the floor.... but, as soon as the playoffs came (and players got hurt, which ever one of those you want to put first: playoffs or injuries) it was back to business. the reliable triangle was back and pa
