| People have been talking about trading this player and trading that player to get this player and that player. It got me to thinking when has a trade actually brought a championship to a team. The only team I can think of is Detroit hwen they traded for Sheed. Superstar players aren't traded to other teams like before, it's easier to build championships another way even though it requires more patience. So when is the last time a team has become a bonafide championship contender from a trade with the exception of the Detroit Pistons a few years ago? |

Lakers trade Shaq to Miami
If your talking about contenders than Boston made 2 blockbusters deals this summer that seems to be working out quite nicely. |

Damn! Lol how could I forget that trade from my own favorite team. However look at Miami now, they have no cap flexibility, Shaq is a 21 million dollar albatross in a way and they won't contend for possibly the next few years.
Both those trades you have mentioned happened during the offseason which seems to generate better results for trades, I guess i should have mentioned in season trades which is what was on my head when I was writing this post. |

| well i actually think in basketball it would make a difference to a team greatly if it was a super-star trade, off-season or not. I would rather make trades in the off-season or in the season as early as possible if that is the case, though more opportunities would open up as it got closer to the trade deadline...I would strongly agree with you though if you were talking about a sport like baseball, where 1 guy despite how great he is, can only get 1 at bat in the batting order and can only field in a certain area. |

| I hate to say this, but the trade the Celtics got from the Wolves might take them all the way. They have looked mighty impressive. |

| 69-70 Lakers, when they got Wilt, unfortunately they fell one short again, because when Bill Russel saw the baloons hanging in the rafters of the Forum, motivated his Celts not let those baloons fall, and beat the Lakers, thus cementing his stature as the only player with more rings than his fingers. |

| My point of the post, even though it was poorly clarified on my behalf is that superstars are hard to come by via trade. EVen when a superstar is traded it's usually one on the decline who doesn't really improve the team much who traded for his services. Usually when a superstar is traded it's not for fair value and it means the team had no other choice. People on the site keep suggesting trades for these superstars that we should go after and we offer up the likes of Kwame and other scraps. It's not going to happen, we won't bring in a superstar for a package like that, all we can hope for is to bring in a good piece when Kwame's salary is off the books this off season. What we do this off season will let us know if we will be in contention next year, I think we've taken some really good steps this year and next year could be the last step to be an awesome ball club with youth and vets because we would most likely be adding a vet in the offseason. |

Even if we keep Kwame and his contract expires, we'd still be over the salary cap. We'd still only have our MLE to spend |
