Marty Burns - NBA Mailbag...
Since the Lakers are playing well, do you see them still trying to make a big trade? Will they look to get a Jason Kidd, for example, before the trade deadline? -- Carlos Abea Jr., Arcadia, Calif.
As well as the Lakers are playing, they are not satisfied. They know that last year they also got off to a great start only to fall back to earth fairly quickly. While injuries played a part in that demise, Phil Jackson and GM Mitch Kupchak know they are still not yet a championship team. Look for the Lakers to be aggressive in looking to add another impact player, such as Kidd or Jermaine O'Neal or Pau Gasol before the trade deadline. It just depends on whether they can put together a package attractive enough to make it happen. -- Marty Burns |

| I would welcome the Pau Gasol trade more than any other. Pau and JO could actually spot up shoot and post up when needed so it wouldn't really interfere with Bynum's inside play too much, plus it would help our length and athleticism. |

| Actually, I want none of them. JO isn't what he used to be, Kidd is going to go downhill, and Pau Gasol isn't putting up the numbers he was last year. That may be because he's not a PF right now due to Milicic being a little b!tch, but whatever. Like I said, we shouldn't go after any of them. We're better off getting someone like Rasheed compared to them. |

None of the above. This is not the same team from last year. We have already had some injuries and have sustained a great level of play. I hope if we defeat the Celtics that the talks about a trade will finally cease.
But I also understand that we live in an era of instant gratification and that no matter how good the Lakers play - we will want to trade half the team as soon as they hit a couple dry spells. I would hope to be able to encourage a bit of fan discipline.
We are on the right track and rollin' - lets not derail this team for the instant gratification of perceived star power which I think will be fools gold for this team. |

| Now those would be good...Elton Brand or Josh Smith...atleast Brand wouldn't have to move & instead of being in the smaller Cllipper locker rooms he would be in the bigger Laker locker rooms...if not then Josh Smith would be awesome...he brings great defense...he can dunk and he can shoot alright...he's like Ariza...just a little bigger and can jump really high...which means more blocks...I think he leads the NBA with 3 BPG or something like that... |

| Sorry playa's, this is not a championship contender yet...we need vet help...as a young team, we will not be able to handle the pressure, or shot our load way too early...vets will help us ease the load when the real season starts...I move for more vets.. |

| I say try and get a veteren role player but dont take on a big contract like kidd or JO. If we cant get a role player that can play the post then lets take our chances in the off season. Getting to or past the second round would be a good year for us. Lets not put ouselves in miami situation just to win this year and forget about the next three to five if we take on kidd or jo. |

| A vet role player like Webber would be good...maybe this upcoming offseason there will be somebody that can help...a glen rice type of player...the missing piece to the puzzle... |

| We do not really need anyone at this minute, especially not Kidd. If i had to pick one of the three it would be JO, he could play PF which at the minute we need. |
