Outside of my EDM craze, I've been dipping into the nostalgia tank and pulling up the oldies. My mom's family listened to a lot of American music over the radio in Vietnam and that's how she says she learned English. In any case, she passed on her love of 50s- 70s music to me:
Rosie & the Originals - Angel Baby
Phil Phillips - Sea of Love
The Del-Vikings - Come Go With Me
The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
Johnny Cash - Hurt
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
The Beach Boys - Forever
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
The Who - My Generation

I'd recommend Ministry of Sound The Annual 2012 and Clubland 20. Both are awesome albums.
Ahh another EDM fan! I've heard that Australia's got a huge EDM scene - I think a friend of mine was in Sydney a few years back to see Tiesto live.
Man, I saw Calvin Harris in Seattle a few weeks ago. Absolutely blew my mind. ATB, Flux Pavilion, and Hardwell were also part of the amazing lineup. And this summer, Avicii and Afrojack are co-headlining an event in central Washington that I'm hoping to go to.
Martin Solveig - Hello
Bob Sinclair - Love Generation
Tim Berg (Avicii) - Seek Bromance
Skrillex - With Your Friends (Long Drive)
Tiesto - Maximal Crazy
I love EDM man, just can't get enough of it haha. EDM is pretty big here in Sydney. We have two main events: Steroesonic, which is held in a stadium and attended by about 80,000-100,000 people. Last year they had Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Skrillex and Avicii I think. We also have Future Music Festival and it was headlined this year by Swedish House Mafia, which was just fantastic in every way.
Avicii was just here in Sydney playing at a new club called Marquee that just opened up. I would have gone but tickets sold out almost instantly, which kinda sucked haha.
Who would you rank as your favorite? It might be a common answer, but I just can't go past Tiesto. Dude has been around for a long time and is still making killer music. Maximal Crazy is awesome, can't stop listening to it right now. I also love He's a Pirate; that song just gets me pumped when it gets into the last two minutes or so, just an awesome buildup.

Oooh nice! I've been getting into a lot of old school metal for the past few weeks as well, mainly Anthrax, Kreator, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Megedeth. I have to look into Napalm Death too.

Dude, I love both those songs -- I actually got into Tiesto with the "Elements of Life" album and He's a Pirate was the first single I heard. Siicckkk.
I can't really rank any one DJ or group as my favorite. It all kinda depends on my mood. If I'm looking to just rage a little bit and get some heavy bass going in my room/car, then I love dubstep - Skrillex is probably my fave, and most of the UKF dubstep artists. If I'm going to a big massive or something and I feel like getting stupid, I'd go with Swedish House Mafia or Dada Life. And if I want some EPIC house/progressive music to just get me caught up in the music, then Tiesto's the gold standard. Two of my roommates are from outside the States (India and France), so they've been into EDM for awhile, whereas the mainstream US audience has been recently growing. Fortunately for me, they've been sharing their music with me and my playlist is only growing
@ lakerbloke -- Glad to see you around, good sir; I hope all's well with you. Yes, I'm still bumping the GaGa. And I still think she's hot.
Current playlist:
Martin Solveig - We Came to Smash
Dada Life - Kick Out the Epic Motherf*cker
Example - Kickstarts
Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound
Coldplay - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall (Swedish House Mafia remix)

mambamonk,
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the guys you listed. I kinda prefer Deadmau5 to Skrillex but both of them are awesome at what they do. It honestly surprises me that someone like Tiesto hasn't made it big in the US. He's song are perfect for clubbing; it's impossible not to get into a good mood when you listen to them. The guy is a demigod in Europe and Australia, but I don't really know how big he is in the US. Never really hear any Americans mention him when they talk about DJs. I really got into Tiesto with the Elements of Life album as well, but I've gotta say that I don't think he has a bad album. Then again, how can you go past Dance4Life, Elements of Life and He's a Pirate? Those three songs in a row are just amazing.

Yeah, I agree -- I've noticed that Americans just haven't been exposed to much electronic music. Sometimes a single from Europe will jump into the top 40s but the scene just never really caught on. I might be wrong though; it seems like the younger generation here is starting to pick up on EDM, evidenced by the steady growth of the Electronic Daisy Carnival and the Ultra Music Festival here in the States.
Mamba247 -- I see you're into some psychedelic music... X_X haha.

It's wierd, but I guess there's a much bigger hip-hop scene in the US than in Europe. I love hip-hop music as well but I'd love to see some of the best EDM guys get the biggest spotlight in the world (US) shined on them. Here in Australia, all the big dance songs in Europe end up becoming big hits here as well. You can't go to a club and not hear some new EDM tracks, which is just awesome lol. Good to hear EDM is starting to pick up in the US though, it's a fairly new genre that more people need to be exposed to I think.

Apparently Dr. Dre spent anywhere from $100,000-400,000 working on the Tupac hologram and it took them about 4 months to complete it.

I had never been to this part of the forum and I just read through some of the posts and I see a lot of you guys have great taste in music. I'm more into blues and also acoustic music like Tommy Emmanuel, I don't know if you've heard of him. I don't know if anyone ever did this but, well, I also play guitar and just put my videos up on youtube and hopefully you guys could check it out, I mean what better audience and fans than Laker fans right? So here is the link for the two of them, which I composed myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUthjMZt72M ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sasEPWFT ... ure=relmfu
I hope you like it and feel free to add me on facebook (Manel Homem Ferreira) and youtube (Mhfacoustic) and share it. Please share it with as many people you can and try to spread it wherever you want. Thanks in advance fellow Laker fans!

thatguyoverthere, that band is f*cking awesome. Wikipedia calls them avant-garde metal...definitely not a genre I've ever heard of. Crazy metal riffs followed by classical string instruments and then a full voiced opera chick singing along to swing metal or something along those lines. Duuuuuuuuude. Epic. Getting their album right now. Where'd you find these guys?

Btw, Black Sabbath's doing a reunion tour this year. They're scheduled to play at Lollapalooza in Chicago. I'm not the biggest fan but I thought I'd let you know since you're a renowned metal head round these parts xP

^ Looking forward to them!
Fun. - Some Nights
Rise Against - Swing Life Away
The Who - Baba O'Riley
I just bought tickets for Warped Tour 2012 - June 21st. Crazy nostalgic for me; I went to Warped when I was a wee teenager. The lineup isn't as appealing as it was all those years ago (I saw the Aquabats, Bad Religion, and Thrice within an hour - how awesome is that), but I'm looking forward to rocking out and burning in the sun.

I "liked" your video. You're really talented man! You wouldn't happen to be planning on creating a tab for it on ultimate-guitar.com, would you? I'm nowhere near as good as you are and it'd be a great song for me to practice all the rhythm/muting techniques that you do there.
Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to more vids from you dude.
