If I were a coach, I think I'd be as animated as a PJ Carlesimo or a Stan Van Gundy. If you'd want to understand how I run the offese, I'd be like a deliberate Rick Adelman that benches my star IF he does not perform.
So where does this lead? I still clamor for defense in remembering how New Orleans killed us. Peja going 10-13 from 3-pt country and CP3 dishing out 21 dimes. Awww. If we give up that much, heck, a PBA team could beat us up easily. On the following game, Peja goes 1-6, 0-2 from 3-ball. The difference: Bruce Bowen at age 36.
Looking at the current Laker team, who does the stopping? Ronny's energy surely helps but defensively he is an ok defender with the tendency to be foul prone. Walton? Ugggghh. Odom is long and pesky but we need him at the other end of the floor. Kwame? Mihm? Radman? Brian freaking Cook? Forget it.
Fellow Laker bloods, its time we recognize the REAL problem. A PF like JO or Gasol would certainly help our cause but what we really need is a defensive stopper who can play 2-3-4 night in and night out. Someone whom we could assign to a Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki or an Amare Stoudemire. Then we all would see how "better" we would immediately become.
Top of my head rings Ron Artest. I can't stress his value enough considering he makes all of 8M ONLY. The problem though, is the baggage he carries. He is currently serving a 7-game suspension coming from last season's penalties and I'm pretty sure the Kings are keen on trying to move on and rebuild their team without him.

Next in line would be next to impossible to acquire too - Shane Battier. I'll go out on a limb and declare that he is your next Bruce Bowen. At age 29, I think Battier is the best fit for our triangle since he hits that 3-ball with incredible efficiency. So far for the season, he has shot 12-29 in a span of 6 games.
[I could not come up with any possible way we get Shane Battier thru a trade and his contract does not expire soon as well]
Then there's the rest of the league...
Trenton Hassell, Greg Buckner, Udonis Haslem, Donyell Marshall, Reggie Evans. There are also the expensive ones in Marcus Camby, Andrei Kirilenko, Shawn Marion and the likes...
Until we get a hold of our own version of Rick Fox, we will still be toast come Playoff time. Time to call up Geoff Petrie Mitch... |

| To me one of the best defenders in the league, if not the best, is Josh Smith. He averages 3.6 blocks and 3 steals per game. He also puts in 15.8 points and 8.6 boards. I love this guy but I know it is pretty much impossible to get him. |

| we definitely need another great defender on this team. as the season goes along and if odom can stay healthy and play conisistent, i would like to see us try and move him for a josh smith or ron artest. either one of those players is exactly what this team needs. |

| Like I said in other thread, the "FO" needs to step up and get a real perimeter defender to help Kobe. Our "FO" actually had the chance to do so via the 2007 draft, but they failed. DJ Strawberry was an excelent defender in college. But, what did they do? They went for Marc Gasol and Sun Yue, which left Strawberry to fall into Suns' lap with the 59th pick. |

Nicky, I tried every possible scenario to send Odom to the Hawks but it does not seem to work unless Josh Smith signs an extension. By then, it would be next to impossible to match the salaries since it would make Josh BYC.
The best possible way would be a 3-way with another team willing to take in our expiring for a veteran they have to send to the Hawks, our pick for 08 and perhaps a throw-in like Mo EVans.
Then again, Josh Smith's value expands to players like Durant, Oden, D12, Deron, CP3 - simply untradeable. |

| i hear u warren. the only reason why i think we may have a 20% chance in acquiring smith is because they cant agree to a contract extension. |

| That's right but later on the Hawks will still be ready to give him his due. I say Josh will be worth Kevin Martin money... 55M - 5 years. Since it will be signed next year, I say its 66-70M in 6 years. |
