I have been here in L.A., from NYC, for over a decade and on TCB for maybe six months. And one thing hits me. We are like Yankees fans. Unless the team is top loaded with stars -- like the “All-Stars at every position” Yankees or the Hall of Fame starting five of the “Malone/Shaq/Payton/Kobe/Horry” Lakers -- we get all bent out of shape. “The sky is falling!” “Trade the whole team for KG.” “We’ll lose in the first round.”
Funny thing… the Yankees haven’t won the World Series in a while and the Malone Lakers didn’t win it all either. Fluky teams win; luck, injuries and out-of-the-blue stars are often the determinant of who wins. And that is the beauty of sports. It isn’t chess.
Will Kobe finally become MJ and inspire his team? Will Bynum grow up and become a factor? Will Odom get some fire in his belly? Is there any gas left in DFish’s tank? Will Crit be the next DWade? Will Farmar be as good as he can be? Will Mihm recover? Will PJax become the PJax of old again? Will Dr. Buss finally fire Kupcake and renew his relationship with Kobe?
To me, this is exciting. It is a tale untold. It is a soap opera with great players – Kobe, PJax, Dr. Buss. It can be a story of unexpected achievement or colossal failure. We will watch it under a microscope and see how it turns out. I can’t wait for the season to begin! |

Inspired post Baad. I think the Lakers will be one of the most exciting teams to watch this year. Be it drama or sheer excitement, I think LA will interest almost every writer this year.

We expect a lot and are not happy unless we get what we want. Reality can be a ***** and the press makes it worse by pointing out every tiny, minor mistake and magnifing them 100 X. In our case the press has had a lot to talk about, but we want to be relavant, don't we?

I like your style, BaadMaster; I am sooo looking forward to this year. Each player has a storyline to follow, something to prove, something to redeem, and it's all worth following. The ever-interesting Lake Show is revving up for a new season, can't wait!

That's why the Lakers and Yankees are the two biggest franchises in sports. When is the last time you read anything interesting or controversial about Tim Duncan? "I get da ball...I shoot da ball...it goes in...I want to thank my team mates who get me da ball to shoot and go in...when it goes in it is because my teamates get me da ball...then it goes in...i want to thank my coach cos they help get me da ball and it goes in..."

Baad, that was a great post. It provided somthing I think a lot of us lose quite often on LTB, and that is perspective. We are lucky to have had all the successes of the past, and we are lucky that our team is, above all else, the most interesting in the NBA right now. Sometimes being interesting is better than being great, and this team has the potential to be both! Good work, Baad.
