You can call him Carlito Cool for short. Now imagine his intensity playing alongside Ronny Turiaf as the Shock Troopers.
Well I was watching NBA Tv's greatest games and this one was Cleveland-LA in LeBron's feature. It was a time where LA lost Walton to injury and Smush was the court general. Hah. Never thought I'd be able to say that... Well, VladRad is still one piece on this one too, and this was before the all-star break.
The match-up features Kobe and LeBron - both NBA all-star MVPs in the past and Doug Collins was trying to speculate who might get the 2007 MVP honors. Of course Kobe ended up hoisting the trophy on a West win, but LeBron won the game and the match-up.
Dating forward to present day, Anderson Varejao remains unsigned by the Cavs. He was playing extended minutes due to Big Z's absence and I must say he did a pretty good job getting those 11 boards and that all-important offensive rebound in the endgame. He also earned a few charges during his "flops" that swung momentums. I couldn't say he is a starter-quality player as of yet, but I think he might fit well with the Lakers.

If you take a look at Cleveland's payroll, you'd somehow get the picture that negotiations for his services are not doing well. I surmise Cleveland offering mid-level type money on him but does not want to commit up to 5 or 6 years, and I assume Varejao's camp want that 5-6yr deal with price ranging from 7-8M. Since Pavlovic has not been signed as well, and Cleveland has 3 roster spots remaining, there might be a chance we can do some minor deals.
Knowing how the team is made up right now, I think Cleveland is dying to get some help down low. Since budget is something of consideration, Kwame Brown's expiring contract might help that a bit. Considering we can also use Donyell Marshall's veteran presence, why not do a deal revolving around Kwame, Donyell and Carlito Cool?
Kwame + Sasha + Cook + 08 2nd
-- for --
Varejao [s&t 7M starting] + Donyell Marshall
For Cleveland, its a one year rent on Kwame for some solid D down low. If he doesn't fit, he comes off the books. If he does, they can negotiate for a more reasonably-priced extension by next summer. For LA, its quality upgrades. While Kwame might be an expiring contract, its not improbable that if he is not dealt by deadline, we will be on the pace on re-signing for his services anyway. I put my assumption on "more-than-mid-level-money" on his re-signing knowing how generous that Mitch guy is...
The proposal has got nothing to lose from both camps. We all get some much-needed upgrades or trading pieces. Cleveland gets some cap relief or some extra push for their playoff bid. Either way, both teams are happy campers on this one.
PS. On a side note, Cleveland could also choose to swing Kwame in a deal that lands them Mike Bibby. I know for a fact that Sactown fans love the idea of rebuilding better than actual contention. So, there you go. |

| 7-8 mil for Varejao? No thanks. He's worth 3-5 mil at best. |

| varejao and marshall for kwame, sasha, and cook? cleveland would never do that and i dont think varejao is all that great. all we are going to get for cook and sasha is a gallon of skim milk that is about to expire and a box of jewel version fake frosted flakes. |

The going rate for decent big men in the NBA is mid-level up to 7M. If we could somehow use that scheme Paxson is used to doing, we will be all right. Varejao will still average 6M but he will not be a payroll burden in the following years.
7m - 6.5 - 6m - 5.5 - 5m
As for Cleveland doing it, its a completely subjective matter. All we can do are craft proposals that we think are fair and thats it. Im pretty sure EVERY Laker fan in thousands of forums all made their KG pitch... that doesn't mean Minnesota will take it? Or was it even considered?
If you agree with the idea, then its all good. If you don't, I have no problem with it either. Its just my way of crafting ideas which might be relevant later on.
Just like I said, I never thought about it til I saw that game last night. I just thought it would be quite a release from players who have "mentalities of slugs" and replace them with actual talent and hustle. From all other points, I concede. |
