Tonight, live, on ABC TV, pre game starting at 8pm easter time, Nik Wallenda, part of decades old, famous tight wire walking Flying Wallenda family will attempt to walk a wire over Niagra Falls.
It almost seems like something out of one of those futuristic movies or books where a nation tunes in to a show where the chances of someone getting killed is fairly high. I am not sure how they even got permission to televise something that can end up so gruesome.
Tragedy is not a stranger to the Wallenda's and their dangerous occupation. Years ago, several died at one....Please log in to view the entire post.

| I read an article that said Wallenda successfully made it across Niagara Falls. Good for him. ABC insisted that he wear a tether, so his life was never in danger, but it's still quite an accomplishment, even if it didn't really have the danger aspect like Karl Wallenda's ill-fated stunt. |

Steve,
Yep, he wore a saftey harness. I had lots of trouble figuring out how ABC got permission to televise a stunt that could easily lead to the viewing audience seeing someone plunge to their death...as I stated in my orginal post here.
Now we know the answer. While he was much safer than without the harness, it was still an amazing feat to see this guy walk that little, soaking wet wire across the falls. What people can do, what they will do, is amazing and also nuts.
But the way, there is a documentary about that French guy who broke into the World Trade Center back in like 1974 and walked across them without any saftey harness. It is a GREAT documentary and when you see him finally go out between those towers and screw around, so high up it makes you literally dizzy, even watching on TV, you just look on in awe. It was one of the most amazing and frighteing things I have ever seen. You actually can't believe what you are watching.
I would advise anyone to watch that documentary. It is beyond riviting and if your heart is not pounding when the deed is being done, you are made of stone. |
