OK. We now know. The NBA, especially the playoffs, is a young man's game. All the old timers fell by the wayside -- The Lakers, Spurs and Celtics. Amazingly, we had a shot at beating OKC with some luck, a smarter Kobe and better coaching. But we would obviously get our butts handed to us by Miami. Just like Boston. I am kinda glad I was spared that agony.
So, how do we get younger?
The new regime has apparently purged us of any continuity, chemistry and sense. With Magic gone from the organization, there was no one to listen to him when he correctly said "blow the team up" after last years debacle vs. Dallas. Yes, the CP3 deal was a step in the right direction. But few of us thought it would be so predictive. Few of us thought that it was CP3's youth that would be as important as his skill. And with the subtraction of the two old timers, Pau and LO, we would have become a relatively young team. No doubt, that Stern edict might have screwed us up for a long time.
That being said, how do we get younger? If we shared any delusion with Kobe that this squad is a "Championship Level" team, that insane belief has been shattered. So, now that the cat is out of the bag, where do we go from here?
With the new CBA, a reclusive Jim Buss who seems to care not if we win or lose as long as he gets paid by Time Warner, along with his team's new obsession with the salary cap, without a dynamic Dr. Buss selling players not only on the Lakers but also the show business razzle-dazzle of L.A. and an aging Kobe who will not alter his game in deference to Father Time, what is the prognosis?
Here is my analysis. It is down to one player: Andrew Bynum. He is young, has major skills, is a head case --but he can be the Deliverer. Like it or not, that's all we got.
Let us hope he grows up and becomes the new Shaq. Because if he doesn't, we are, for lack of a better word, screwed. |

| It's nice to be young...but I think talent, execution (coaching would be part of that), attitude, experience, health and team are much more important than age. It's not just that OKC is fairly young, they're just damn good. Guys like Durant are likely to still be great even when they're older too. It's hard to imagine it since he's only 23, but the guy is a 5-yr veteran and he's averaged over 20 ppg every single year of his young career. That wouldn't be as hard to imagine if the guy wasn't so unbelievably unselfish of a player too. Pretty amazing. |

I think we need to start saving our first round draft picks. I want us to actually develop some younger players. Man looking at the league i see alot of great young talent. Avery Bradley on the Celtics was HUGE for them defensively, making life hard for D.Wade in the reg.season. Plus he's a great 3 point shooter. Marshon Brooks on the nets modeled his game after Kobe, and you can tell. He's not as explosive, but he's a great player too. Yall should check him out. And others of course like Eric Bledsoe, or even Chandler Parsons. Kawhi Leonard was huge for Spurs this year. Makes me jealous seeing all these 1-3 year players doing so well, and us not really having any. That said i do like Goudelock, i watched him in college and his 3 point shooting is real special.
We really need to start keeping them. ****, we could've drafted a shooting guard and had him learning under Kobe in his last few years. smh. I don't know how, but we need to get more ATHLETIC. Mitch has his work cut out for him i tell ya. |

Not playing and developing Goudelock will forever put The Clown on my Circus List. I mean, what exactly did he have to lose by playing the other Drew?
Could G-Lock have shot us into the Western Conference Finals? We will never knoiw. What we will also never know is why The Clown, coaching a team that needed both youth and shooting, crazy-glued G-Lock to the bench even in blowouts.
Someday we might know the answer. As of now, we are, for lack of a better word, screwed. On many levels. |

If you wanna get younger and take arisk trade gasol to hou for martin and the 14 n 15 th pick. Hope austin rivers, jon henson, or perry jones drop.
Also celtics almost beat the heat. We wouldn't get handed to by the heat. I still can't believe we lost to the thunder, in my head we out played them majority of the quarters. Were just not deep enough, we have no consistent 6th man. |

Not a bad idea even though it probably leans heavily toward "rebuilding" and probably would not be to Kobe's liking...but I think we could get more than Martin and that pick. In fact Houston probably would want us to take on more of their salary in the deal. I'd prefer Lowry or Dragic (Dragic might even be better) over Martin anyway. One way or the other, Houston would jump all over that deal to get Pau and I can't blame them. |

| At this point, I don't think the FO would be too worried about Kobe since they obviously have their own plans. It's a good idea to dump salary and get a decent draft choice BUT personally, I don't think any of them would be better than Lowry.....even after 2-3 years. |

| KS, I wasn't thinking in terms of going for a better pg through obtaining a draft pick. In fact if they go the route of dealing with Houston, I would like to see Dragic or Lowry included as opposed to Martin. It might be crazy...but I actually prefer how Dragic plays. Anyway, that should take care of the pg position. Then they can use the draft pick to get stronger and younger elsewhere. For right now I would prefer to get more of a sure thing for a pg too. Sessions is too much of a risk and a mystery to me and I don't have a problem with letting him walk if he goes the free agency route. Anyway, pg's out of the draft are so hit-and-miss. |

Watching OKC last night. I noticed they simply wore down the Heat. What is especially weird is that we came close to beating them -- or, at least, being up 3 -1. That said, we are not that far away IF WE GET YOUNGER!
If, every year, we juist sit on our hands because Jim Buss is cheap and stupid, we will just fall father and farther behind.
As I see it, keep Kobe, Bynum, Metta (you need defense), Goudelock and Sessions. Get a good coach. And get rid of everyone else.
Then we got a shot. That is my take on all this. |
