Recently on ESPN Radio, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith mentioned the mutual interest in both sides of the situation.

“(Odom) desperately wants to come back and wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. Mike Brown desperately wants him back. He’s going to talk to Buss and Lakers hierarchy to see what they can do about getting Lamar Odom back.”

We'd also have to wait till like December right? Would really rather the bench become younger but hey, who knows what could happen

If we can get him for cheap i dont see why not. Our bench needs all the help it can get and a 6MOY wont hurt. This also gives Pau and Drew a little more rest IF we keep em. Or if we trade either one of em there's a cheap replacement. Win-Win. A motivated odom is a huge mis-match, come back home LO.

He'd have to wait til december though, eh not bad, just a month off.

I know we have to wait until December to sign him if(when) he is cut by the Mavs, but can't we get him back sooner if we trade for him??? Are we allowed to trade the trade exception we got for Lamar back to Dallas for him??? If anyone who knows the new CBA, please let me know.

THanks

They'd need to see if his head is on straight, and even then, they should only get him for the minimum. Then again, this is Stephen A. Smith, and I don't trust his "sources" any more than I do Broussard's.

Stephen A. Smith talks out of his a@$ all the time. Didnt he go out and say Kobe would want out of L.A. I can't stand this dude because he just all talk. He does stuff like his to stir up the nba. Beside if it were true I wouldn't want him back. Move on Lamar fans. There are better free Agents out there this year let's see who we can get.

Would this mean that McRoberts is expendable?

Also, if he were to come back, I'd expect Lamar to be the most boo'd athlete in Mavericks history once we play them. Lol.

Im so for it! If we bring bak Odom and Hill. 100% sure we trade Pau, unless we trade Drew instead, get an elite pg for him like Deron, lets try to snag Lopez in it too. Our front line wud b Pau/Brook at the 5, Odom and Hill at the 4. Remember guys are championship days were Pau and Odom most of the time at the frontline esp during crunch time. Also the fact that Odom declined an offer for another season wit Khloe and Lamar... I heard hes really motivated to cut ties wit the Kardashian spotlight hollywood paparazi BS, and determines to revitalize his ball career! Come bak home to LA, ur our 2nd GLUE guy esp now that Fish is gone. LO comin bak, instant 1-2 spot in the west standings next year

I'd take him back, but would he accept the vet minimum? Lamar was always one of my favorite Lakers and to see him go the way he did just didn't sit right. If he could come back and finish of his career right in the Purple and Gold, that would be awesome.

Better free agents with the Lakers cap restrictions? The only way they sign someone (outside of the bird rights) is with the 3 million MLE we have and the minimum. If Lamar really comes back, I doubt the Lakers use the MLE on him and sign him for the vets minimum. Try and get a better player than Lamar for that kind of money.

Just to clarify things, Stephen A was getting his info straight from Kobe. I know he gets loud and animated, but don't let that confuse you with the fact that his info comes from credible sources. I've honestly have yet to find him all talk. Chris Broussard is also credible. Everyone has a different personality, but I would believe the previous two stated before I listen to Bucher, legler, etc:

Bring back Lamar, he would help the Lakers big time if they trade Pau. If this team can get him for the vet min then I am all for it. There isnt a better guy out there for that kind of cash.

He can help this team if his head is on straight.

We seem to be forgetting that for the time being his contract and future is still under control of the Mavericks. If they can swing it, they're likely to want to make a trade to get at least something out of their LO adventure.

I know it's doubtful that a team will want to pick up that $9M contract unless a situation comes up where a team is desperate to clear off cap space at the end of next season. I think Lamar will most likely wind up getting bought out and being a free agent.

Here's another article with Stephen A. Smith talking about Garnett possibly signing with the Lakers, and about how Odom might even accept the Vet. minimum to come back to the Lakers.

Quote:
Kevin Garnett could consider signing with Lakers

By Larry Brown

Kevin Garnett is currently the fourth-highest salary earner in the NBA, but he’ll be a free agent after the season and likely to sign for far less than the $21.2 million he’s making. There have been reports that the Nets will be interested in signing him, and it’s possible he and the Lakers could come to an agreement.

During an interview with Mark Willard on 710 ESPN Radio in LA over the weekend, Stephen A. Smith discussed the possibility of KG signing with the Lakers and said that’s something the team should explore.

Smith pointed out that Garnett lives in Southern California in the offseason and that he’s friends with Kobe Bryant, so he believes it’s a possibility, especially if Pau Gasol is gone.

Strengthening the speculation is Garnett’s admission last year that he was pretty close to signing with the Lakers as a free agent in 2007.

Smith also says the Lakers would consider bringing back Lamar Odom. He says Odom “desperately” wants back with the Lakers, and that Mike Brown desperately wants him too. Smith says Odom would take the veteran minimum to return to the Lakers.

There were some other good nuggets in the interview such as the confirmation that Dwight Howard doesn’t want to come to Lakers, and the belief that Deron Williams will strongly consider remaining with the Nets.

KG is still an asset and will be able to help a team for at least another season, so it would make sense for the Lakers to be interested. I just know that wouldn’t sit well with Boston fans if he left to go play for the enemy, but it’s not like they haven’t seen that before.

Lamar was the 6th man of the year just year before last,he's worth a lot more than the vet min!he didn't even play a lot last year so his legs are still where they were when he was a LAL.tuff spot for the lakers with our horrrrible money sitch,if we trade Pau for a wing(iggy),I think we still need 2 sign a staring 4 if we sign odom,or a backup.but our money sicth makes me think well trade Pau to CHI for Deng and Noah, but can Noah consitantly hit the open mid range J?or will we just have an offensively innafective 4,except for a couple put backs a game(with Noah)

IF and only IF lamar can return to his 2011 form would I welcome this. IF he can get his game and his b@!!s back, then bringing back LO could make the lakers absolutely lethal.

Think about it, bring in Lamar and resign Hill. This opens up trade possibilities for pau.

Say we can land a player like Igudala or Deng, or even Lowry/Kevin Martin our lineup would look like:

sessions or possibly lowry
kobe
Iggy or Deng
LO
Bynum

with artest, hill, ebanks, and glock off the bench. (i think barnes will be gone).

LO would open up the floor for bynum to be central option in the post and dominate the paint.

This would be ideal

Yes, he would accept the vet min to be back home.

He was one of my favorite Lakers too. I love his presence on our team and how he wears his heart on his sleeve. People criticize him and call him unprofessional, and sometimes they're right, but I love how human he is.

If he takes the vet min, then he's a much better man to me than kobe who's making 30 mil or whatever.I like the idea of starting him 2 now that I think about it.Let's trade Pau for a wing, sing LO,if its for the min, then let's pick up beasley 2,and that's a championship squad, the fav in the NBA for sure
Ramon/blake
Kobe/ebanks
Iggy/Metta
Lamar/Beasley
Bynum/hill
WOW what a squad, from only 4 scoring threats(2 underutilized) to 6,who can all be utilized, play Ramon and Iggy a lot in the 2nd untit to run!

Nice idea, but I would add possibly signing KG for the vet min which would allow Beasley to slide over to the 3 if necessary.

After last year I would think Odom would be close to the biggest cancer in the NBA.

Even at his peak, his effort and consistency was spotty.

If he wants the vet minimum, then we take a one year chance with him if Dallas somehow drops him entirely.

He seemingly is part of the three headed 7 foot monster that only tries harder after a tremendous amount of criticism and embarrassment.

Currently it's very tough for me to see him making a rebound back into semi-stardom as an athlete.

Hopefully this post motivates him.

Quote:
Kevin Garnett Could Consider Signing With Lakers

By Larry Brown May 29, 2012

Only as a backup PF/C, and only for the veteran's minimum or the LLE.

ive always hate KG. so i dont want him wearing the laker colors, especially since he became a celtic.

but even if we wanted him we couldnt afford him. he just had a very good season(comparing him to other PF's) and there really arent many impact bigs out there. he will be coveted by alot of teams. especially contenders like san antonio and maybe dallas will try and add him if they dont get dwight (via trade).

with the complete lack of quality bigmen he will probably get something like 9+ million a year on a short term deal

I'd take him back, but would he accept the vet minimum? Lamar was always one of my favorite Lakers and to see him go the way he did just didn't sit right. If he could come back and finish of his career right in the Purple and Gold, that would be awesome.

Yes, he would accept the vet min to be back home.

He was one of my favorite Lakers too. I love his presence on our team and how he wears his heart on his sleeve. People criticize him and call him unprofessional, and sometimes they're right, but I love how human he is.

Yes. Ditto.

Beside if it were true I wouldn't want him back. Move on Lamar fans. There are better free Agents out there this year let's see who we can get.

This.

Hey mr long offseason should do the lakers well..Lamars season was basically a offseason,he aint play uch at all,his legs will be just as great as when he won the 6th man of the year. We need him! Btw he's the best 4 available FA this year. Lots of wing FA who can score in every way, but why not get a big who can score in every way, and rebound. . .

At this point, I'd only want Lamar back if Pau is still with the Lakers. And chances of that happening are looking slim. They were great together. I'd guess I'm in a small minority, but I think Pau and Lamar was the best front court duo the Lakers have had in a long time. Lamar opened things up in the middle for Pau and they're both great interior passers. Together they were both good finishers. Very good rebounding duo too. But then again, all that may be a thing of the past since they've gotten a couple of years older. All I know is they were a HUGE part of two consecutive championships together.

Actually, I doubt he's worn down either. I agree with you. My best guess is that he's gonna help a team a lot if they don't bury him at the end of the bench. Plus, he's never really had any serious injuries in his career either. I hope he gets in great shape and comes back huge.

Amnesty Metta, so if LO doesn't want the vet min, give him a lil more.. Who knows how much Metta makes next year? Maybe we can sign another piece with that money if we don't get everything we need from the Pau trade and Beastly TPE, for instance if we trade Pau for Josh Smith, sign Beastly and LO we could use another wing scorer like Foye,JR,NYoung,Borbosa,MoWill,GGreen..
