We all had it. If you were a Laker fan we all stared at the flat screen in utter disbelief. Heart-broken. And if you are as passionate as I am about The Lakers, tears welled up in our eyes. We had a hard time digesting what we were watching. Our Lakers were being swept right out of the playoffs. And Mark Cuban, of all people, celebrating our demise added insult to injury to the situation.
A year has gone by, and us fans & The Lakers themselves had to do a lot of soul-searching. We had to ask ourselves...."Who are we"? ..."Are we good enough to win it all with what we got"?
It was no secet that we needed a point-guard who wasn't 80 years-old (luv ya Fish). And The FO tried desperately to pull off a monster trade for CP3. Stern preferred to sell out any ounce of credibility he had left as commissiner than allow the team that he loathes most get the best PG in the league.
But Mitch & Company were persistent. They basically stole a talented young point from Leaveland. For a player that most Laker fans wanted off the team years ago.
And WHAM! The Lakers got younger, faster & more athletic with a stealthy move by MK
With Ramon running the point, The Lakers are NOT playing 4 against 5 anymore. teams got to actually play him. That frees up everbody else. If he can improve his defense I see him as a top 10 PG in this league for years to come.
The Lakers have learned from their failures from last year. And I see the hunger in their eyes again. They are World Champions for christ sakes. Once a Champion, ALWAYS a Champion.
Bynum has emerged as the best Big Man in the game! (he's still growing into that role & learning how an elite player should actually act in public)
With Gasol & Bynum, The Lakers have a nightnare matchup for anybody in the league down low.
Artest has turned back the clock And gives us a great defensive stopper against the Lebron's, Durant's & Pierce's of the World.
Matt Barnes, Steve Blake, Josh McBobberts & Co. have stepped up their game. They are hungry. They want to win a Championship. That's the reason why they signed with us in the 1st place.
Kobe........SMH
Kobe has proven his critics (& pessimistic fans) wrong once again. He is still the best player in the league IMO. He led the league in scoring. And still is clutch when called upon.
The real season starts today! This is the season that The Lakers are made for. Champions have another level in the playoffs. And when that Champion is as hungry as Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Artest, Sessions & Co. ...........The rest of the league should be worried.
A year has past. And here we are once again. And we aren't going out like that! We are a proud organization. And we are ALL about winning. Not just "Divisional Banners" .. Oklahoma Thunder. LOL
We are built to win Championships! (we got 16 of them). And are hungry for more.
Sorry for you Denver. The Lakers are on a mission for #17. And you are just our 1st stepping stone towards that mission. You will lose. But you'll be able to hold your head up high. You'll have the honor to say.."We lost to the eventual Champions" Congratulations on your consolation prize!
The Lakers will win their 17th Championship. It is written! |

Great thread post PurpleKnight!
I'm not much into excuses, but there's no question that the 3 consecutive trips to the Finals, along with some taxing summer international teams experience among key players had the Lakers mentally exhausted last year. And sadly, much of the sweep boiled down to taking the Mavericks lightly in game #1 and then never recovering after blowing that big lead. That gave the Mavs hope, and they rolled with it.
Anyway, teams who get there one time and then crap out at how hard the journey was simply have no freaking idea! |
