Nuggets - Lakers Preview
GREG BEACHAM

Instead of worrying about the Black Mamba at Saturday's practice, the Denver Nuggets couldn't stop talking about the Rattlesnake.

That's their new nickname for Arron Afflalo, coined by point guard Andre Miller for the former UCLA guard's quick-strike moves.

''I know I don't want to get bit by either one,'' Denver coach George Karl said.

Everybody got a good laugh before the Nuggets got down to business on orchestrating a major playoff upset.

The Nuggets are facing the aforementioned Mamba and his Los Angeles Lakers in the postseason for the third time in five years, starting with Game 1 at Staples Center on Sunday, so Karl already knows plenty about what doesn't work against Kobe Bryant and his 7-foot teammates.

Man am I ready!! I know Kobe and Pau and Bynum have been waiting for this all year.

If Ron was out there I'd predict a blowout. Without Ron we'll need to play good ball.

GO LAKERS!!!

^ Me too Craig! Time to re-establish that defense! We can't win without it! I'm trying hard not to be ticked at Ron right now, but it's difficult. I hope Devin is ready. This could be a major shock to his system, but at least he has Kobe there to help him through it. Come to think of it, this is new ground for Ramon too. The playoffs is what it's all about, so welcome to the real NBA kids!

I thought Dallas had OKC upset in their game #1. The Thunder was very fortunate to escape with a W. We have to be careful as well. Better yet, just go ALL OUT and leave no doubt!

Dan, I thought for sure that Dallas had won game 1. They were up by 7 points with 2-3 minutes to play. Then lost it at the end on a lucky (shooters roll) shot by Durant. smh

I agree. The Lakers are going to need that stellar defense in order to make a deep run in the playoffs this year.

This series will give us a good barometer of our chemistry, determination, Brown's schemes on both ends...and most of all, our DEFENSE...

You know the cliche...Defense wins Championships. It's time to put up! Or shut up! No excuses!

Can anybody imagine the Lakers having legit three point shooters on this team going into the playoffs?! The inside game would be very scary, I think we would the favorites. Anyways, the Lakers playoff run begins today.

Here's what's needed:

1. Kobe to be the BLACK MAMBA, Bynumite to be a BEAST and Gasol to be the BLACK SWAN...
2. FUNDAMENTALS Control the boards, limit turnovers and hit our free throws...
3. We have to play to our STRENGTHS...and play INSIDE OUT BALL!!!
4. Top Ramon has to be effective, penetrate and FACILITATE!!!
5. Our Role Players have to step up...EXECUTE their jobs, and HIT THE OPEN SHOT!!!
6. Mike Brown has to be able to make the ADJUSTMENTS and have a great scheme on both ends of the floors, and find the most effective ROTATIONS!!!
7. Most important...we have to played INSPIRED DEFENSE!!!...Slow down the game to a half court game, to prevent transition offense by the opponents...

I want Matt Barnes on fire at 3pters.
We need to play DEFENSE, I dont wanna see Miller driving to the rim again.

Well, today is the day the real season starts. We have to take advantage of our 2 Beasts down low. Kobe needs to be a facilitator early on and get the whole team involved so that they get confidence early on. The more involved our players are on offense the more effort they'll give on the defensive end as well. Lets get that W.

It's near gametime! I'm so pumped. The thing that concerns me the most and will probably be our biggest key is Sessions. He has never even played in the playoffs so I'm eager to see how he handles it. If he does well had manages the offense well and averages about 13, 7, we're gonna be pretty good. Lets go LAKERS!!!
