NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and a law enforcement source at the scene tells us cops believe he shot himself.
Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.
Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught.
We're told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 kids yesterday saying, "Love you." We're told they all responded and didn't suspect anything was wrong. We're told he last saw his.... Please log in to view the entire post.

| Wow that's just shocking. I haven't been this surprised by a sports death since Steve McNair was found dead. RIP. |

James,
Sorry to see this thread. I will be honest, no early death of an athlete surprises me any longer. Nor suicides. It has become very obvious in the last decade that so many of these athletes just can't find happiness or contentment after the games stop. They also suffer physical and mental damage in their sports that depletes their quality of life.
One final observation: While these are men of iron consitution and will on the field, I have to say many are found wanting and soft off the field. Life is hard. Very, hard. And you have to be hard to survive. From many stories I have read, many of these guys, who could survive the hardest of hits against other players, who seem indestructable on the field, seem to fold up pretty fast when lifes realities start to hit them when the playing stops.
And interesting dichotomy.
On the football side, he had it all. A linebacker with intelligence, power and the speed of a panther. He could do anything a coach asked. He was iconic in appearance, with that short haircut, the mustache, and those huge arms and with flashy celebrations when he made good plays, which was often.
I remember the 1994 AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh, when the underdog Chargers beat my Steelers. Seau was all over the field and seemed to be involved in every tackle in single handedly (with a big assist from our pathetic QB Neil O’Donnell) stopping our offense.
The word great is used a lot these days. But it applies to what he did on the field. One of the best to ever play. |

| Damn. I can't believe it. When someone in the sports or entertainment business dies, it's a surreal feeling. You can feel it. |

Lakerdude,
Yes, there is something arresting when star dies young. I think part of it that in a fashion, once removed, we know them. Or at least think we do. And we observe their exploits over the years, they become linked with us, with our own memories of life, they become almost like a family member we never meet. But someone we share life and time with.
The other thing is stars seem a cut above us, once removed. They have it all: the money, the toys, the women, or the men, the best life has to offer at a whim. They seem almost like minor gods. Like sickness, depression, death, can't happen to them, at least while they are young. Not like it does to us normal people.
And when they die young, its seems unreal, impossible. But it is jarring reminder that anyone can and will die. Stars, gods, and us. |

RIP.
Its crazy that 7 of his team members from his superbowl season have already passed all before the age of 45. |
