The longer we wait, the more likely chances will fade to aquire Jermaine O'neal. We are talking about an All-Star big man who is Kobe's age. If we must give up Lamar and Bynum, so be it. As presently constructed, this team has solid depth and good role players who will definalty help the duo of Kobe and O'neal.
Kobe needs a guy like Jermaine down low as the Lakers anchor on defense, as well as the bonafide second scoring option. Also, JO needs Kobe to be dominant and to help take pressure off of him from carying the whole load himself as he did in Indiana. This will be the best duo in the league. We still have Phil and we have great role players who won't have too much pressure to be stars, but rather to just do what they are capable of.
Role Players:
Fisher - Leadership, defense, and a few jumpers 6p-2a
Evans - Be a solid backup to Kobe 7p-2r
Walton - Facilitator, occasional scorer from threes or post 12p-4r-5a
Rodmonovic - Spot up shooter occasional slasher 8p
Turiaf - Tenacious energy guy off the bench rebounds/dunks 7p-5r
Kwame - Man to man defense, rebounding 7p-7r
Mihm - Occasional post scorer, rebounding 8p-6r
Youngsters:
Farmar and Crittenton - Good young backup PGs with potential
Coby Carl - A non drafted sleeper, Luke Walton type of player
The Stars:
Jermaine O'neal - Second option, low post scoring and defense 20-10-3b
Kobe Bryant - Superstar 30-5-5
This is a solid 56 win team with a top 4 record and capable of beating anyone in the playoffs. |

| Thank you poppin! Finally someone who agrees with me and say JO is a good player and worth the trade. Also that he will make us a better team. I dont see why people are so hung up on Byno and LO? What have they done for us? I mean Byno needs years to grow, and LO is a good 3rd option. We need JO, bottom line! |

| Idk if Jo is worth it or not. He has a big contract and we might not be any better by trading LO for him |

I'm sticking to my stance, which is that I'm ok trading for JO as long as we get another player along with JO in return.
LO, Bynum and Sasha for JO and Harrison anyone? |

| Yes, that's what i would want as well, but it seems that Granger is untouchable; Indy is high and mightly on him. Besides I wouldn't want trade 4 players for 2. |

sorry dreamers, we will not get granger... no freaking way.
thats who they are trying to build around with along with bynum (if theres a laker-indy deal).
if they do not take JCritt bynum and brown for JO, i say just let it be and let them do their deal with the net.
a player i would like the FO to look at, melvin Ely anyone?
he is an unrestricted free agent, still available, and we might be able to get him cheap...
sign him, so just in case theres any trades later... |

Yes and No poppin.
I say Yes we need JO, I say No we mustn't part with Odom.
I once more raise the point - why should Indiana be in need of Odom anyway? Trading Jermaine Oneal signals full rebuild. If they trade a significant guy or two, thats considered re-tooling. Theres a difference.
Take Minny's example on this one. If Minny was trying to be logically quantitative on the deals, they would have taken LA's Kwame + Bynum + Odom for KG. Or they could just have traded KG to a team that has a trade exception and young players and expiring contracts. In the end, conspiracy theorists aside, Boston was an ideal full-rebuild partner.
For Indy's part, if they must trade JO, trade it for cap space, young players and upcoming players with cheap salary. There is no point in spending near the luxury tax if your team is not winning. This IS the logical thing to do.
For LA's part, there can never be an overkill team in the West. 3 stars are always better than 2 365 days a year. Capitalize on Bynum's hype and Critt's high value... package in Kwame and Sasha's expirings and add Cook or Radman as the filler. If we must have to, we trade them the 09 1st as well.
The jury is right. Odom + Bynum for JO is mere lateral. If we must be contending, do it in fashion. |

May I also add that we might get a deal out of Radman thru Miami. If they choose to stand pat, they might find out that Smush parker IS their best 3-pointer. Yikes!
Vlade Radman + Sasha Vujacic
-- for --
Jason Williams
Actually makes sense if you consider that Riles team direly needs a shooter. Vujacic can play backup PG. |
