The West will look like this:

    1. LA Lakers
    2. San Antonio
    3. Phoenix
    4. Utah
    5. New Orleans
    6. Dallas
    7. Houston
    8. Golden state

First Round matchups will be like this:

LA Lakers (1) vs. Golden State (Cool

Since Pau has arrived in LaLa land, the Lakers look to be the team to be beat in the rugged Western Conference notwithstanding the pending return of Andrew Bynum, the Lakers look invincible. The Warriors will give them fits in defense, but ultimately, the Lakers poise and depth will get the best out of BD and Stephen Jax. the Lakers can match the Warriors speed but the Warriors can't match the Lakers height. Pau Gasol and a healthy Andrew Bynum will have a great series against the small Warriors. Lakers will take this series 4-1.

San Antonio (2) vs. Houston (7)

Even though the Rockets are on a roll right now, winning 12 straight, this will not be the year that Tracy McGrady will come out of the first round. They cannot beat a battle tested Spurs team with Tony Parker back and Manu Ginobili hitting those threes. It will be a competitive series but the biggest factor here is playoff experience, which the Rockets are in need of and the Spurs have an abundance of. And besides, Yao Ming is out for the season, so McGrady will have to wait again next year to try and win a playoff series. Spurs take it in 6 games.

    Phoenix (3) vs. Dallas (6)

Best friends Nashty and Diggler wll again meet in the postseason but with different circumstances. Both have made major acquisitions with Jason Kidd and Shaquille O'Neal. Both teams need to redeem themselves for them to be recognized. Kidd will help in the leadership and heart department. O'Neal gives Amare a mentor and someone to push him too. Too close to call. it all boils down on who wants in the most. Phoenix takes it in 7 games with a game winner from Nashty.

Utah (4) vs. New Orleans (5)

Two of the most complete teams in the league, showcasing two of the best up and coming guards in the league in Deron and CP3. Both coaches are methodical to a fault, so this will be interesting. Utah takes it in 7 games. They have too much of a controlled game not to win.

Second round matchups will be like this:

LA Lakers (1) vs. Utah (4)

Phil Jackson takes on his old rival in Jerry Sloan. Bring you back eh? Jerry Sloan will be hard pressed to see the second coming of Michael Jordan in a possessed-to-win Kobe Bryant. Boozer is definitely an All Star but can he last the whole round with Gasol, Odom and Bynum tag-teaming to guard him? And you think Derek Fisher can't guard Deron Williams? Remember that they were teammates last year and for sure Derek has his number. What I know is this, Ronnie Brewer cannot guard Kobe. Lakers take this in 6 games.

San Antonio (2) vs. Phoenix (3)

After being booted out of the second round by Robert Horry, the Suns eyes revenge on their rivals. Shaq will provide that toughness in the interior that they lacked when they faced the Spurs. Manu Ginobili will have a great series and Tony Parker will leave dust in Steve Nash's face, but the difference here is Shaq and Tim Duncan. The bigs will dictate this series and since the Spurs have no one to cover Amare, the Suns take it in 6 games.

    Western Conference Finals:

LA Lakers (1) vs. Phoenix (3)

Talk about a dream matchup! Although Phoenix have had the Lakers' number the past couple of years, this year is quite the opposite. The Lakers have won the season series 3-1, and should have won all four if Andrew Bynum played in the other game. Matchups are heaven! The defensive minded Fisher against the court vision and shooting of Nash. Kobe-on-a-mission against rugged Raja. The versatile small forwards in Hill and Odom. The Spanish Fy Gasol and STAT Amare. The Diesel Shaq vs. the Prodigy Bynum. You can't ask for a better West Final. All I can say is that Kobe won't let us lose this one knowing that the championship is within arms length. The Lakers take it in 6 games!

Now we face whoever wins the West. A Celtics-Lakers Finals perhaps? We'll wait and see!

Hey Randy, with the "breaking" news of Yao's injury, do you still think that they will keep the 7th spot in the West?

What about Kurt Thomas...he can guard either Amare or Shaq and so can Duncan...

I wrote this before I even knew about Yao's injury. The last three spots are really a toss up now between Golden State, Denver and Houston.

im not so sure about that. Now Stoudamire AND Shaq can guard Duncan. As much as I hate Shaq, he still is dominant when you look at his size. It would be a hard one and it would be taken to a game 7, but I think the Suns can win it.

Me too. Remember, they have changed the dynamic of their team now by adding Grant Hill and Shaq, two veterans who are playoff tested. I think they can win it too.
