When the lakers are 100% and everyone is playing 100% the Lakers are unstoppable. Its strange... for me it kind of sucks that we're our own worst enemy, but at the same time its kind of cool knowing the only one team that can beat us is ourselves. Jan 31 can't come sooner and I hope the Lakers and all the Celtics are healthy... I don't want those Douche-bags to have any excuses as to why they lost except for the fact the Lakers are just the better team... @uck the Celtics. @uck them!

There is something wrong when a 'tic lover can realize the strength of this Laker team and too many in here incessantly whine, complain, seek trades, trash starters, constantly believe the apocalypse is about to hammer the Lakers and that our stranglehold on the championship trophy is nearing an end.

I say the same thing now as I did at the beginning of the season: there is NO team in the association that can beat this team in a 7 game series. NONE!

Too bad it's the 'tic fan that needed to remind us of that.

I believe the majority of posters on LTB write whatever they write out of a deep love for the Lakers and a deep desire to see them to succeed. That includes the whining, the compaints, the trade talks and the incessant desire for improvement. It goes right along with the times we also go way overboard in our praise of them too. It's all part of being fans. LTB would be pretty empty and boring if all we were about was looking at the positive (or the negative).

While it's nice to be reminded of how good we can be (the Dallas game finally reminded most of us), most fans want to see it displayed on the court consistently just to be sure. You can hardly blame us for that.

Yes. Even I must admit, and everybody knows how much I despise the Lepers, that at the foundation of my distaste for that franchise is the conviction that they have always been, and likely will be again in the future, our archrivals. As much as I like to denigrate the team from Cesspool City, at the root of it all is the respect that must be accorded to a worthy opponent.

Lakers-hatred is embedded in my soul. It was planted there in 1980 and will never escape. You don't recover from Magic Johnson's baby sky-hook in the '87 finals.

Don't mistake the hatred for disrespect. The main reason I despised Magic, Kareem, Worthy and co. were because they were so damn good. While I enjoyed the east coast vs west coast duels, deep down, I wanted the Celtics to play anyone else (i.e. Houston) in the finals because that increased their chances of winning. If that sounds like fear, it was.

That takes me to the 2009-10 Lakers. Granted this team has zero likeability (Magic was an ambassador, always carrying a genuine smile, while Kobe is a fake douche who charges fans to access his web site), they should be feared just the same.

Did you see what LA did to Dallas last night? They demolished the Mavs (arguably the 2nd best team in the West) by 35 points. Pau Gasol played just 7 minutes (hamstring).

At 27-6, the Lakers own the best record in the league. Yes, their opening schedule was home-heavy, but they also played 9 games w/o their second best player (Gasol) and currently own an 8-3 road record. Kobe is banging buzzer beaters at a record pace. You want defense? LA is the top rebounding team and second in opponents FG%.

A big part of my "realization" has to do with the current state of the Celtics. KG is an old warrior. This latest injury is described as minor, but whose to say another one won't crop up in the future? Even with a healthy Big 3, I don't like this team's killer instinct. Yes, they beat Cleveland and Orlando on the road, but this flip-the-switch style of play could bite them in the a** in the playoffs. As of January 4, I don't like the Celtics chances against the Lakers. Should the Celtics advance to the finals, deep down, like I did in the 80s, I'm hoping they play against anybody but LA.

Editor's Note: Admission of the Lakers greatness will not prevent me from taking cheap shots at them in the near future.

THhis fan sounds old school too...I like the thoughts..the 80's were great with the celts and showtime...magic to worthy...coop-a-loop. This current addition of the showtime II is pretty good as well. The only team to stop the lakers this year and next are the lakers....

Definitely.

The Magic were extremely dangerous coming in the series, and even had some LTBers shitting bricks. I however, predicted the Lakers in 5 or 6, where's my coookie?? Very Happy

OCLakerfan8, Good post. I can definitely live with the Lakers being their own enemy. I admit that coming in the season, the C's depth was worrying me a bit. But I also failed to recognize the geezers they have in their team, and what a bust Rasheed is turning out to be. Its amazing when you consider the injuries this team has had, yet we have the best record in the league. Pau was out 11 games, and Artest has been out 5, and to still have the best record in the league? Kobe is obviously a big contributor to that, with his 3 game winners, but still. Shows just how dangerous we are.

Agreed, CB, but they are limping towards the end...literally and figuratively.

As an aside: look for KG to be out quite a while, those knees of his look like heads of lettuce.

Thanks Relivethe3peat, it does make it seem silly that many of us, including myself, aren't satisfied with how the team has been performing but that just means we all know the potential this team has.

I'm not surprised. If our Lakers come to play with some intensity, passion, and effort every single night, I would highly doubt any other teams, including Cavs, Magic, and Leprechauns, would even come close to beat the them.

Its interesting that back in the 80's he did not want to play us in the finals. That kind of caught my attention for personal reasons.

Back in those days, I used to root as hard for the Celtics to make the finals as I did for us to make it. I used to be friends with a huge Celtic fan back then and he was amazed at how hard I rooted for his team- our arch rivals- to hook up at the end with us. He thought I was nuts, lol.

I sooo wanted to play them everytime we went to the finals. I was very confident we would beat them. Maybe that was the difference between how that Celtic fan felt in the 80's and how I did. He had doubts, I did not.

My belief in Showtime was supreme and I felt Magic was better than Larry.

I don't think they should fear the Lakers at all, personally. They have a great team and I think they are pretty much even with LA. Of course, I do think that the Lakers have more talent on the team (see Mavs game) but since the Lakers hardly ever play with passion, attitude, and hunger and the Celtics ALWAYS do.. they really aren't far behind and could absolutely beat us in a 7 game series. I don't think our team is invincible at all. we have many weaknesses, lack of focus being the main one, and the Cavs/Celtics could beat us in the finals if they play hungrier than our boys do. I have a lot of respect for the Celtics, even though they are complete douches from KG to fat baby to Rondo, but they sure do play hard.

For every dud we have on the roster, the Celtics have an even crappier version taking up bench space.

Our worst player is Adam Morrison... him against Brian Scalabrine? Not even close. Josh "Foul" Powell PER MINUTE edges out Shelden "Blood Orc" Williams. Given minutes, Sasha Vujacic is a better player than Eddie House. Jordan Farmar is more productive than Marquis Daniels. Daniels is averaging 5.7 PPG in over 20 minutes! Would you rather have Tony Allen or Shannon Brown? Exactly. DJ Mbenga alone cancels out the rest of their scrubs.

The only hope this team has of making a championship run in June is Fat Baby Davis and Rasheed Wallace. Both of them are suffering from HUA(Head up A$$) and are sucking indefinitely.

Against Orlando's bench, its a different story. Orlando has depth they are just struggling chemistry-wise.

The only team I've seen this year that ALWAYS plays with heart and passion are the Rockets. That team never stops playing and never gives up. Thank goodness they're not overly talented or they would be a freakin' nightmare. If the Lakers play anything like that (and not just Kobe) you can kiss them ALL good-bye...

I can understand his fear of the Lakers. Any sane person would fear them. By the same token, say if Boston were to sweep us in our regular season meetings, I would then fear the hell out of them. For now they are interesting to me. Based on Clevelands dominance over us and they way they are coming on like gang busters, they are the team I come closest to fearing in the east right now. If they take us apart in the rematch, I will fear them no end.

I agree. I can't wait to see how Lakers do against the Celtics, Magic, Nuggets, and Spurs. And I'm counting down the days to that Cavs rematch- if we lose, Ill definitely be a little unsettled. Although, keep in mind that we DID lose both games to the Magic.. They were close though, if I am remembering correctly..

The Lakers laid a fat goose egg on the Christmas day game. They all played a subpar game to put it lightly. However, win or lose at Cleveland, I don't think the Lakers would fear them and neither should we as fans. I truly believe that if the Lakers played them in a 7 game series, they'd make adjustments to beat them. Especially in the Finals. The Lakers squad, minus Artest has been there twice, where only a few of the Cavs have tasted it but once. Different environment and different stakes to play for. Come June, it's Laker time baby! No doubt and no fear about anyone or any team Celtics or Cavs. Bring it!

I guess I shouldn't fear the Cavs as much as I do. Last year the Magic swept the Lakers in the season series and we still dealt with them in the Finals. The only thing that bugs me about the Cavs is that they absolutely obliterated the Lakers on Christmas Day. At least those two losses against the Magic last season were competitive.

If the Lakers play the Cavs tough on January 21st and prove that belong on the same basketball court with King James' crew, win or lose I'll have some hope should they be our opponent in the NBA Finals. The same goes for Boston and Orlando.
