Michael Jordan watched the Miami Heat play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night as two of the game's premier players (and potential free agents in nine short months) played.

After Dwyane Wade's Heat lost to LeBron James' Cavs, TNT's Craig Sager spoke with James about the presence of Jordan at the game.

James, a student of the game who's respectful of the history of the NBA (and shoe contracts), instantly began talking about how much respect he has for Jordan "paving the way" for players like him to make millions.

Then James threw Sager a curveball he couldn't handle: James said he's going to give up the number he's had on his back his entire NBA career, 23, out of respect for Jordan's influence on the game.

James said the league couldn't redesign their logo, changing out Jerry West for Jordan's Jumpman, but he believed the entire league should retire "Jordan's Number" the way the NHL has globally retired Wayne Gretzky's 99 and MLB has retired Jackie Robinson's 42.

"[Jordan's] number shouldn't be worn by any player in the NBA," James told Sager.

[Obviously nobody is putting either Jordan or Gretzky in the class of Robinson, but the numbers are globally retired.]

Sager asked James what number he would switch to, and he indicated he would wear his Olympic number, six, next year and give up 23.

This presents not only a bold statement of respect, but also an intriguing question: should the NBA globally retire Jordan's number? Miami, of course, is the only team that has retired an opponent's jersey; Pat Riley retired Jordan's 23 when he retired (from the Bulls).

James was humbled by Jordan's presence, and fans should enjoy his respect for the game.

    VID: http://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/ ... rdan/11067

He's considering number 6. Skip ahead to around the 1:45 mark

Look at the smirk at the end of this vid. Man... he SERIOUSLY needs to stop that. Dude loves the attention.
...and with Mo Williams right there. Sheesh

he said that because hes going to new york next year, and tony douglas is 23 there. 6 is a better number anyway. MJ is 23 and only him, imo

This is a sales tactic and a media ploy. All Lebron lovers must now burn their #23 Jerseys and buy number 6.

Lebron will surpass Kobe next year... in Jersey Sales.

Big deal. Everybody knows that his number will change from 44119 to 10021 next year.

So he wants his old Olympics number. He should pick #8, now that would be great.

I can't stand when these guys change their numbers. It's like when Kobe changed from 8 to 24. He made some random excuse about wanting a fresh start for the second half of his career or something, but all these guys are really seeking is attention, and hiked jersey sales.

In another seven years LeBron's probably going to say something like, "Oh, well, uh, out of respect to Bill Russell, I'm going to stop wearing #6......" Give me a break....

I actually didnt see anything wrong with him paying respect to Jordan and changing numbers, or like VS said, maybe he just wants to have his jersey sales rise up.

What I found wrong was that Mo Williams was standing right next to him, and when Sager asked what team he was gonna play for, he had a big smirk and answered, "We'll see" and looked at Mo Williams and sorta laughed a little. But it really isnt ALL LeBron's fault. People really gotta stop asking that. Theyve been asking him that since last year. Free Agency is this summer! Cant people wait?? Sheesh.

Apparently they took down the vid I provided so here's another one:

^ Relive: quick question. What would you have done if you had been in LeBron shoes right there? Put on a frown, say nothing, and walk away? I'm confused as to why his smile/chuckle and comment of "we'll see" upset you so much....

LeBron looks better in #6 IMO. He looked REAL fresh in the USA jerseys. Or maybe it was just the USA jersey's looked 100x better than the ugly Cavs jerseys.

Well the answer itself wasnt so bad at all. It was just that smirk and laugh he gave to Mo Williams right there that bugged me.

This is a guy who said he wasnt gonna talk about Free Agency anymore. Its like he's teasing the Cavs and the media and wants the media to focus on him more.

..and this is supposed to be a team player? That's a leader? He needs to give it a rest and setle this in the offseason, like its supposed to happen. That team is supposed to be hunting for a championship.

    Harry,
I actually like the blue Cavs jerseys. They're pretty dope if you ask me.

It would look fresh with some blue 501s and some white chucks with the blue and maroon stripes.

But true, the white ones and the maroon ones are ugly.

Relive, i wear that jersey above often. I'm talking about the red one, the orange one and all the other alternates their team has. They are ugly.
