Lakers 103, Rockets 102
BOX SCORE: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=291104010
Another ugly win for the Lakers. The bench sucked @$$ again with the exception of Farmar and Powell. |

41 points by Kobe on 50% shooting against Shane Battier's Rockets.
We need to eliminate all those easy attempts. I really hope they address that issue. |

| Dude the bench is always going to suck like crap until Pau gets back. Doesn't anybody get that? When Pau comes back, that puts lamar back at the 6th man role. He and shannon brown are the energizers off the bench. Lamar is the 6th man, but he would start on most other teams. |

Uh... no. He had surgeries back to back years (last year and the one before), and one in high school.
That makes a total of - what do you know, 3 surgeries. Two on one knee, one on the other. |

every single one of Kobe's baskets was a tough hard earned shot. He didn't get one fast break lay-up. or one open dunk. nothing. All fade aways, spectacular shots in the paint...
LETS GET ONE THING STRAIGHT, CANT NOBODY DO WHAT KOBE DID TONIGHT. Any other player in this situation with a team playing so bad would've lost the game. Those shots Kobe was hitting on Battier, unbelievable. The 4th quarter shots, unbelievable. Not LeBron Not Wade Nobody. |

Good to see Bynum working the giveNgo. The coaching staff definitely had a lot to do with that.
This game bumps Kobe up a few notches in the MVP race. |

Holy crap that game was too close for comfort.
C'mon Lakers, you guys are killing me!
I missed most of the game, but from what I heard from my friends, Artest was clutch as hell for us in the 4th and Kobe was simply out of this world.
I'm glad Kobe's showing signs of coming out of that weird slump he's been in recently, and I hope Artest gains some confidence about playing with us after his role in tonight's game. |

It's nice to have a Kobe on our team. Ron had a good game as well.
Don't know why/how Chuck Hayes got 12 points. They should have just fouled him, since he's only a 37% free throw shooter. Is it just me, or does Carl Landry always kill the Lakers when we paly them?
In the end, a win is a win. |

Hm, for some reason I could have sworn he got minor surgery last year for his torn MCL... regardless, he still had a torn MCL which isn't easy to come back from.
And don't get all butt hurt because of a little jab. It's a forum, lighten up. |

Another ugly win for the Lakers. I just can't believe how bad Lamar played the first half and the bench? Well, lets just say they are none existant.
I will say that the Rockets for having a bunch of short players that they really hustle in comparison to the Lakers. Scola made Lamar look bad and Chuck Hayes made Bynum look bad. Thank God for Kobe being the type of player that just does not like to lose. Even though I can see that Kobe just does not have a three point shot anymore. He has to drive and dunk or get closer then the three. I don't think Fisher scored tonight. I figured Brooks was going to run circles around Fisher. Lakers are lucky to win this one. But we will take the win, after all it was a back to back on the road and without Pau Gasol. |

Bryant's 41 points lead Lakers past Rockets in OT
HOUSTON — Kobe Bryant scored 41 points, Andrew Bynum added 17 points and 17 rebounds and the Los Angeles Lakers won in overtime for the second straight game, beating the Houston Rockets 103-102 on Wednesday night.
Carl Landry scored 20 points to lead six players in double figures for Houston. Luis Scola added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Chuck Hayes had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza both scored 15 points in their first meeting since they swapped teams in July. Ariza signed with Houston less than a week after Artest left the Rockets to join the Lakers.

| OH! Chill out Harry, Bynum can't jump much, but he is coming along just fine. You got to remember he had a serious injury. He will get better. Where the Lakers are hurting is in the point guard position. fisher is really starting to show his age, Farmar is just not a good point guard. Sasha has not scored lately and has given up. Brown is really not a point guard, but a shooting guard. |

Lakers 103, Houston 102: Postgame chat
Well, it took five extra minutes and a lot of anxiety, but the Lakers pulled out back-to-back road wins in overtime, this time against the Houston Rockets. Like the previous night's work in Oklahoma City, there were aspects enjoyable, along with some elements I could have done without. TK
The Good
* 24 hours removed from treating the ball like it was a greased pig (26 turnovers), the Lakers took considerably better care of the rock. Only nine gaffes this time around. In a game where you don't play even close to your best, it helps to minimize the damage on some level. By contrast, Houston had nineteen turnovers.
* Some terrific defensive teamwork by Derek Fisher and Andrew Bynum on high screen and roll coverage down the fourth quarter stretch, which led to dry Houston possessions and the Lakers converting, which allowed them get back into the game and force the bonus period. While the defense was anything but perfect on the night, it definitely got better as the game went along. Despite some missed opportunities and bunnies, Drew's 17/17 effort was pretty strong.
* 41 points for Kobe, with six in OT. As the minutes increased, so did the degree of difficulty for many of those shots. There's a reason the guy is often referred to as the game's best closer.
* "Traded" players Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza trading three's to force OT. You can't script that stuff, but you sure want to.
The Not as Good
* Houston beating the Lakers 54-48 on the glass, with seventeen offensive boards. It's a team of midgets. Granted, they're midgets talented at rebounding, but they're also just a crew of hustlers. You have to expect that and meet the energy. The Lakers didn't and allowed way too many second and third chances. And on a related note, too many layups.
* By and large, the ball movement was stagnant, with way too few looks inside to capitalize on LA's size advantage.
* Fisher: 0-5 with a goose egg in the scoring column. Granted, he had some huge plays in critical moments (including defense and a steal on Houston's final possession), but they needed more from him on the offensive end. And his overall D on Brooks was spotty.
* Allowing Carl Landry to score 20 off the bench and Chuck Hayes to score 14, period.
* Lamar Odom's first half. 1-8 for a trio of points. Ouch!

| The game should have never gone into overtime, but Kobe with 14 second on the clock didn't play it right. It was not a smart move by Kobe waiting for a high screen to develop. |

| If the rockets make the playoffs, they need to re-negotiate with ariza. that was a big shot to tie the game.... and thats what we are gonna miss. The timely shooting. |

If these Rockets get above 40 wins Rick Adelman better be the COTY.
The NBA is either rigged or just plain stupid to not consider him. |

Ariza’s shot at victory never comes
Trevor Ariza had the ball and his chance. He had struggled for most of the night, but the Rockets were within one point of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Ariza headed through the gut of the defense of the hometown team that had let him go.
He never got a shot.
Ariza tried to split Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, with Fisher poking the ball loose before Ariza could gather for one last shot, giving the Lakers a 103-102 overtime victory Wednesday at Toyota Center.
Ariza and Ron Artest, the player the Lakers chose instead for their title defense, generally played to a draw. Both finished with 15 points, including the back-to-back 3s that sent the game into overtime.
The Rockets, however, could not find an answer for Bryant, who scored 41 points on 15 of 30 shooting, including six points in overtime.
By the time the game had reached overtime, the Rockets had been scratching out offense wherever they could find it, unable to find the bursts of fast-break scoring or 3-point shooting that had taken over their previous games.
Shane Battier had begun the overtime with two free throws, but Lamar Odom tied the game by tipping in a Bryant miss. Bryant hit a free throw, before Chuck Hayes put in a layup with 2:36 remaining.
Bryant put in a turnaround jumper, but Hayes answered again, this time finishing with his left hand, giving him his second consecutive game of double-figure scoring.
This time, when Bryant hit his jumper, Luis Scola fouled him, with Bryant’s free throw giving the Lakers a two-point lead with 1:30 left. Scola fouled out with 16 points and 13 rebounds, but that brought Carl Landry back to the floor on a night Landry had been rolling.
The Rockets answered Bryant’s three-point play when after an Ariza miss, a video review gave them the ball back for another chance, with Brooks driving to tie the game with 1:06 left, giving him 15 points to go with six assists.
Bryant missed, but Andrew Bynum came away with his 16th and 17th rebounds, was fouled on his second attempt at a putback and hit both free throws for a 102-100 Lakers lead with 44.2 seconds remaining.
The Rockets tied the game again. They went to Landry posting up Lamar Odom inside with 37.3 seconds left, with Landry scoring to give him 20 points in 25 minutes, on 9 of 12 shooting.
Bryant, however, found Bynum rolling to the rim, with Hayes forced to foul with 24.7 seconds remaining in overtime. Hayes fouled out with 14 points, on 7 of 9 shooting, and 14 rebounds. Bynum made his second free throw for a one-point Lakers lead.
The Rockets tried to go back to Landry, but he could not get free from Odom’s front defense. Instead, Brooks took off for the rim, forcing Odom to take a foul with 13 seconds to play.
The Rockets never got up another shot. Brooks could not get free and Ariza tried the toughest of drives against players he knew better than most to be the most determined of defenders. After insisting revenge did not interest him, he could not get it, or the win.

Hm, for some reason I could have sworn he got minor surgery last year for his torn MCL... regardless, he still had a torn MCL which isn't easy to come back from.
And don't get all butt hurt because of a little jab. It's a forum, lighten up.
Dont worry... we all make mistakes. IMO, he still hasnt had full confidence in that knee. Which is exactly why he's choosing to wear that brace. Its clearly more of a mental factor with Bynum. He's been quoted saying he feels 100% so I dont think taking layups instead of dunks, etc, is a result of 2 career surgeries.
Well, any little jab can turn into an argument so its best to avoid them PERIOD. |

Give me a break. He stunk it up tonight and you just cant let it go that we improved with the accusition of Ron. Funny you didnt mention his 3 he made seconds before.
....and what about the TIMELY turnover without even getting off the last shot? No mention of that either. |
