Legendary NBA center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sat in on the Grizzlies' practice Monday morning. The NBA's all-time leading scorer will entertain joining the organization, several sources confirmed.
Grizzlies management had no comment about Abdul-Jabbar's presence. Memphis, however, asked for and received permission from the Los Angeles Lakers to speak with Abdul-Jabbar.
Abdul-Jabbar, 62, is under contract with the Lakers after having tutored Andrew Bynum over the past several seasons. But the Los Angeles Daily News reported earlier this month that Abdul-Jabbar's interaction with Bynum would decrease and he'd take a lesser role with the Lakers this season.
The Griz have three centers - two of which are considered projects - that could benefit from Abdul-Jabbar's knowledge and experience. Marc Gasol, Hamed Haddadi and rookie Hasheem Thabeet met Abdul-Jabbar for dinner Sunday night.

| I honestly do not understand why, with all of Jabbar's basketball savvy, that the Laker organization can not find a place for him. The Knuckleheads did the same thing with Ewing. |

My guess is that the Lakers organization is stacked as far as Big coaches.
Sometimes established greats wish to seek a greater challenge in life. What greater challenge than to establish a lasting legacy in a hellhole like Memphis, Tennessee?
Hasheem Thabust, Marc Gasoft, and Fat Randouche have no clue which way the sky is, maybe Kareem can steer em in the right direction. |

Steve,
I have metioned this on this board before also and I agree with you 100%. You mean Mitch can't find something that Kareem can help with? C'mon. I honestly thought that Kareem would wind up on the Knicks bench to be honest... |

| Well who can Blame the Guy The Lakers Center Andrew Bynum said he doesnt need any more Tutoring from the Great One so if His Work is done I have no Problem with him going to Memphis and helping there Young Centers I think Lakers and Memphis have had a strong pact with one another going back to when Jerry West was a part owners of the Grizzlies so I see no Problem with that what else would Kareem do go back to NY and do nothing |

| The Lakers should have put Jabbar in the vacant spot that was left by Rambis. Jabbar is a very cerebral person and could have been a great addition to the Lakers. |

Grizzlies Still In Talks With Abdul-Jabbar
The Grizzlies are in the midst of "serious negotiations" with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to help coach their centers.
Abdul-Jabbar visited the Grizzlies in late October and the two sides are looking to work out an agreement.
"It's a matter of how much time Kareem will give to us," owner Michael Heisley told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
"We're trying to come to an understanding of how Kareem will work. I want to make sure we're getting somebody who will give attention to these kids and help them. He's got a lot of commitments."
The Hall of Famer is under contract with the Lakers, but the defending champions gave the Grizzlies permission to speak with him.
