The reserve forward becomes more aggressive, scoring 14 points against the Clippers.

Finally, Adam Morrison felt compelled to shoot the basketball.

Finally, Morrison heeded the advice of his coaches.

Finally, and perhaps more important, Morrison found his stroke and knocked down some shots.

The Lakers' reserve forward missed just two of the seven shots he took against the Clippers on Sunday night in an exhibition game at Staples Center. Morrison made all four of his three-pointers and he finished with 14 points.

That was a good sign for Morrison.

Morrison, 25, has been encouraged by Lakers Coach Phil Jackson during training camp to take open shots and not to pass up those looks.

"When you've got the coach backing you up to take more shots, that definitely helps," Morrison said. "I've shot the ball well in practice, but I didn't shoot it well in the first couple games in the preseason. I don't think I was being aggressive enough. [Sunday] night I was and the shots started falling."

In five exhibition games this fall, Morrison is making 40% (eight for 20) of his shots, 50% (four for eight) of his three-pointers. "I think my legs are back," Morrison said. "That's the biggest thing. Getting more comfortable and getting in the right spots in the triangle helps."

Overall, Morrison is averaging 16.6 minutes per game during the exhibition season and 4.6 points.

He's gotten more playing time because backup small forward Luke Walton missed the last two games with a sore back.

Morrison also has gotten more time because Jackson has given the four-year veteran more chances.

"It's just a matter of having an opportunity to play some minutes so he gets comfortable out there," Jackson said after practice Monday. "I think that Adam is one of those guys where it takes him a little bit of time to loosen up."

Morrison finally has gotten healthy again after missing the 2007-08 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Morrison appears to have more confidence in his knee.

"I think that part of it is good," Jackson said. "He worked all summer long. He's in great shape, as far as that goes. But getting into position to play takes him a couple of minutes."

The Lakers traded Vladimir Radmanovic to Charlotte on February for guard Shannon Brown and Morrison.

Brown found a measure of success last season.

But Morrison, the third pick in the 2006 NBA draft, struggled with his shot and confidence with the Lakers. In the few games he played in and at practice, he looked to pass too often.

He's taken a different approach this training camp and in exhibition games.

"I'm trying to seek them out and getting to the right spot," Morrison said. "In the last couple of games, I think Jordan [Farmar] and the guys I've played with here have done a good job of finding me. That's helped me a lot to get a rhythm."

There is much for Morrison to prove this year, to the Lakers and the rest of the NBA.

He's in the final year of a contract that pays him $5.2 million, which makes this a contract season for Morrison.

"It's definitely a little more pressure," Morrison said. "But we're blessed to be in this league, first of all. So I look at it as another year with that little niche in it. But you have to come to play and be ready to play."

I really hope Adam succeeds. I love feel good stories especially if it's happening to a laker player. I know most of you guys dont think much about Adam because he only played a little bit during last seasons championship run, but hey he is still a contributor even when the lights are out (team practices) and that could really make a difference. He seemed like he worked hard this summer so it looks like his hard work is showing, i really do hope that he gets into the rotation.

I like how he plays though, although i think he still needs progress in D. I love how he is taking time with his shots and not taking bad shots like vlad. I do agree that him and farmar both work well on the court together.

You know what? Why not give this kid a chance? If he can get his shot & confidence back and can be productive it would only help us to acheive our goal. Hey he scored 14 points against the Clippers and he did pretty good in the summer league so I think he's feeling better about his knee and his place on the team and Phil "seems" to have taken a liking to him.

I don't know if Morrison will play much this season, you never know with injuries and what not, but I believe the Lakers will try to bring hi back on a lesser contract. I have no issue with a 6'8" swingman who can shoot and has underated passing and defensive skills. He has been injured but anyone who can drop 30+ a game in the NCAA has the ability to score.
