If Mitch can pull off a trade with either Sasha or Morrison sometime before Wednesday July 8 and get back draft picks in return, can the Lakers still resign Ariza on July 8?
He only has a VERBAL agreement. He hasnt signed anything yet with Houston. |

Nothing is set in stone until all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, but I highly doubt it. |

You can still get Ariza to come back to LA because it haven't been officially if you look at Turkoglu he did the same on friday. But I don't think he will. |

Even if Trevor would do it, it's doubtful Dr. Buss would want to spend the money to do so. Like I said in the other thread.. with Artest taking the MLE, every dollar that is spent on Ariza (and Odom) will have to be paid AGAIN in luxury tax. So Ariza would cost the team $11.6mil to match his $5.8mil contract.
If money wasn't an object in this case, the deal would have already been made... but it wasn't, because money matters. |

Actually, I understand that it was slightly less than what the Lakers offered. The Houston deal is the flat MLE. The Lakers offered the MLE with % raises. |

| The closest thing that Ariza will come back in LA is when the Rockets plays a road game in Staples...What a good game if we start the season against the Rockets...Dec. 25 against the Magic... |

| He's not coming back- he will sign with Houston. He's probably dreading Wednesday. Maybe he will come back to LA one day, but he won't be a Laker this season. |

| He will get MLE in Houston and also raises each year. Same as LA. Not sure if the raises are the same % or not. But probably close. But Houston gave a 5 year deal instead of 3. That's the main diff. Not sure how old his kid is, but now he gets to be near him more to see him grow up for a while. Might have meant something. |

If he wanted to see his son grow up he should have told his agent that he wants to stay in LA. |

| Since I do not believe that LA wanted him back and already had a deal with Artest blessed by Kobe and Lamar, I do not think that LA will even try to get him back and I do not believe Trevor would come back because he has character and pride. |

| Oooops. I misunderstood something there. TUrns out his kid is in LA and he preferred Houston simply as it was a closer plane flight. By what? an hour? Lame excuse. Anyways, whatever. I stand corrected. In the article I read it made it look like he went to Houston to be closer to his son and family (which I know nothing about) and I assumed that mean they were in that city. Logical conclusion but an error. |

| It would be awesome if they could have kept Ariza and Artest, and let Walton, Sasha go to another team on a trade. Even though Walton did play pretty good in the playoffs, but played lousy in many games in regular season. Sasha was terrible in the playoffs. |

And where would Odom be? On some other team? Don't get me wrong, Ariza is a good player, but Odom played a more vital role on the team. When Bynum got into foul trouble, who came in? LO. When Pau got into foul trouble who came in? LO. If they didn't have LO, who do you think would have come in? Josh Powell? A 6-11 forward who can play all five positions including point guard is hard to find. In fact, I can't think of another one besides Lamar. Ariza is good, but let's face it, there are a lot of SFs out there who can do what he does. Anyways Ariza is gone. I think people need to stop moping about Ariza and just move on. He isn't a laker next season. |

Why do you guys go to left field when someone makes a comment.
The point is to keep Odom as well. Nobody said anything about signing back Ariza and not siging Odom. Keep the team in tack minus the dead weights.
Ariza would be a hell of a back up to Kobe instead of Sasha or Morrison. |

Technically, the deal is not better. Granted, it is for five years as oppsed to our three, But, had Ariza fulfilled his potential, the deal he could be getting in three years might be staggering.
Setting hypotheticals aside, the half million or so difference could be made up in endorsements, maybe some TV appearances (Trevor seems to have star quality), personal appearances, jersey sales and other related L.A. benefits. He never got to fully mine the benefits of being a charismatic champion in tinseltown. (One national ad and BOOM! Difference made up!)
Remember, Houston is basically a football town and it just might be "Trevor Who?" if the Rockets go 10-25 and the Houston football team starts crushing some opponents. Fame always translates into money. And he just lost out big time in the "fame game."
Adding it all up, factoring in taxes, the two deals are probably a wash. He likely could have upped the L.A. deal by firing his agent and signing with us, which would, in essence. have given him 10% more.
Let's be real. What human being with half a brain would choose a bad Houston team over the World Champion Lakers at essentially the same salary? 'Nuff said. |

Nay is exactly correct. If you would read the post it states that they should have let Walton a small forward go and kept Ariza. And also trade Sasha, he was worthless in the playoffs. So, I think that Smushsucks has it all wrong by misinterpreting my post.
I do agree that Lamar is a must for the Lakers, and they need to sign him. But Nay hit it right in the head when he said to get rid of the dead weights. |

| I hope trevor will come back after 3 years like Fisher did. I know that he is close to his former teammates at Laker land and he left because his agent lee blew the negotiations. |
