Step 1 was obviously sign Artest. What a move by Mitch! What can I say? Hands down the best GM in the league... the best in the business... the Top Dawg. This guy actually got Ron Artest to take a paycut.
Signing Artest meant the Lakers added a player who is a DPOY candid ever year, the signing OFFICIALY should shed the label of us being a "soft" team, and we FINALLY have a TRULY reliable defender in the playoffs, AND the Finals, we got a player who can spread the floor, AND defend... perfect piece for our squad. What can I say? What man is better for the job, than Artest? Mitch to the Spurs: I see you're Richard Jefferson, and raise you one ARTEST!
Step 2? Resign Lamar "The Candyman" Odom. No ifs, and buts about it. This guy needs to return, and I have no doubt in my mind that LO wants to resign now more than ever!
Look at our squad:
PG- Fisher
SG- Kobe
SF- Artest
PF- Gasol
C- Bynum
Bench:
PG- Jordan Farmar/Shannon Brown
SG- Sasha Vujacic
SF- Luke
PF- Odom
C- Gasol
Man, on paper, we're hands down the best in the league! Now we can REALLY debate if we're going for that 72-10 record! This post is sorta outta order but man, Im just typing thoughts! I still cant believe we replaced Trevor, with a guy like Artest! LTB, STAND UP! Mitch has done it again! |

Resign Lamar step 2 yeah.
Step 3? We could use a back up center but most importantly a PG.
What do you think about Fish? I think he does not have the legs any more to hit shots consistently and he is too slow on defense. Fish would be a great back up and mentor I think. How much does Fish have left? |

Good post, but IMO, Odom was step 1. He had to be resigned.
Now, step 1.1 was finding a replacement for Ariza, luckily though, that's now out of the way.
Fisher/Farmar/Brown
Kobe/Vujacic
Artest/Walton/Morrison
Gasol/Odom
Bynum/Powell/Mbenga
There are the 13 players Mitch should have for next season.
Gotta love it.......... |

I'm still going crazy over the Artest deal. Last day of school for the term, and I come home to this! Oh man this is just so great. As much as I love Ariza, I'll take Artest anyday!
Now get Odom back Mitch! No way Odom wants to go now with Ron on the team. Can you imagine the interviews and behind the scenes stuff we are gonna see with these two?!?!?! |

I myself am THRILLED too L4K!
How the hell did we manage to replace Trevor with Artest???? Mitch is truly the best GM.
Now, if we can ONLY have Sasha and Farmar return to their old selves! Imagine a trio of Jordy/Sasha/Odom off the bench? Sheesh! This team just got scarier! |

Fish is gonna start most likely but his minutes will go down significantly. He still has game, we really don't need him to run the break as much as we need his knowledge and savvy plays. Shannon Brown and Sasha Vujacic can serve as combo guards, each capable of relieving Kobe and Fisher.
I like the idea of Gasol being locked at PF and Bynum playing more minutes. Talk about Kobe's mileage, Gasol has been a rock and adjusting his PT may prevent a dramatic injury.
Scratch out Farmar if possible. We know what we can get from the guy on a nightly basis, some hustle plays, an inconsistent shot, a few TO's, and quickness. The League is now infested with young PG's that can do the same. Dealing Morrison is a no brainer, but what team in their right minds would take a Farmar/Morrison package? The Knicks? |

Nah give Sasha a chance. He can't play any worse than he did last season... Besides, how are you gonna find sufficient PT for anybody playing behind Kobe anyways? |

Agreed that we MUST sign Odom SOON. There is no reason we can't offer him $10 M now that we got Artest for so cheap.
BTW: Did we use our MLE on Artest or do we still have that?
Also, aren't Odom and Artest supposed to be really good friends? Wow this is going to be intense over the next few days! |

| i think a farmar morrison trade will be enticing for somebody thats about 6mill coming off the books FOR the summer of 2010. With fish also soon coming off the books a play for a 7-8mill pg may be the move to make for the future of the lakers |

No way!! Screw Eddie House.. that guy is one of the biggest punks in the NBA and can't stand him. After every shot he makes he feels as if he has to celebrate and cuss for 15 mins!
There are MANY more PGs out there for Eddie House. |
