| Is this for real? I know Ron loves to play in LA and is tight with Kobe and Lamar. He will be willing to sign for far less money that he is actually worth. |

| If we are going to lose Ariza, we might as well sign Artest. I just heard on ESPN that Ariza was offered five mil per year and his agent didn't like that at all, so they said that he might be leaving the Lakers. Artest is a hot head, but he is a good player. Can't take that away from him. |

| This made my day, but I'm holding back from full celebration until I see a contract. What a great day to finally re-visit LTB. |

Then this explains why the Lakers onloy offered Ariza MLE. They knew he would turn it down and they could sign Artest. Ron Ron is twice the baller TA is. Period. He has proven it over the years, not just one Sasha-esque year.
I think Mitch has had it with "One Season Sashas" who think they can break the bank with one good year. He wants proven talent that can do it over the long haul -- like Pau.
If we get Ron, hats off to the best GM in the League...Mr. Mitch Kupchak! |

YES!
All signs pointed to this happening, but it's great to hear it's official!!!! There is no doubt that Ron Artest is an upgrade over Trevor Ariza, and we just won a freakin' title with Ariza, and basically without Bynum!
'09-'10 repeat chances are looking good! |

If this is true - I personal see this as a disaster for the Lakers. I was so grateful that Artest was not signed last year and went to the Rockets. My only hope is that this is just another silly rumor. Please - NO ARTEST!
And how sad for the Lakers family. That a warrior and nice young guy like Trevor would be "played" like that by the organization - and I am pointing my finger right at Kobe if this happens. This is some serious subterfuge. |

Ariza isn't being "played" by anyone. His value is right where the lakers think it is. At the MLE. Put him on another team, he won't be as valuable. If anything, it is the lakers being played by his agent. There is a reason why other teams are only offering him only the MLE at most. If he feels it is a "slap in the face" by the lakers, then fine. Good luck to him. |

4lakers states, "And how sad for the Lakers family. That a warrior and nice young guy like Trevor would be "played" like that by the organization - and I am pointing my finger right at Kobe if this happens. This is some serious subterfuge."
Take a deep breath. Lakers gave this bench jockey a stage, suppporting players and then offered him close to SIX MILLION DOLLARS to play on a Championship level team. To act like 6 MILLION DOLLARS, in this economy, is an insult, for a guy who barley averaged 12 points and 3 rebounds a game, is total ingratitude. If I were Dr. Buss, I would replace him with Ron Ron after that outburst. To parpahrase DeNiro in Casino, "Without Kobe and the Lakers, Trevor would still be shoveling mule spit."
Let him go and see where his specialized talent takes him.
If we get Ron Artest, we are on our way to repeatsville! |

For me, it's no comment.
It's business and that's that.
I have to say, if this is true that we're replacing Ariza with Artest, well, then I wish the best for Trevor as well. I liked him a lot and I hope there won't be any hard feelings between our team and him. |

VS is dead on - Artest is a definite upgrade over Ariza. Let's also remember that LO and Artest are childhood friends - they played on the same childhood basketball teams. This only raises our chances of keeping LO here in LA.
I guess I need to stop calling him Artest-icle.... |

| Ariza is playing the lakers and the fans, not the other way around. Like I said, it could be his agent saying this stuff. But if he thinks the lakers' offer is so disrespectful that he is willing to go to another team like the Cavs for the same price, then to heck with him. |

No! Artesticle is so great!
Maybe we could make it Artesticles and pronounce it like Socrates (-ees). That way we can keep the joke but not as an insult. |

| Wow, if this report is accurate, then welcome aboard Ron. Although I would have loved for Trevor to stay, I think Ron is probably an upgrade from Ariza. Good luck Trevor wherever you go (except Cleveland).... |

Wow - how things change. One second you are stealing passes from Carmelo and becoming a hometown hero leading us to our 15th championship and being cheered on in the L.A. Coliseum by your name. And in a week or so people are meeting with another small forward and making you an offer they knew you would refuse.
All the time the leader (Kobe) is hugging on you during the parade - while the next week he is pushing for his friend Artest to come to the Lakers - to add to the insult that same leader is saying in public how he is SURE you will be back - if that is not being played then I don't know what is.
This is a sad day for the franchise. |

| Hey, if we lose Ariza and can only sign Artest for the MLE, then I say do it! No harm there! Then focus on Lamar! |

| Yeah this move seems like its completely aimed at increasing Kobe's happiness. Even if they don't win another ring, Mitch and Dr. Buss can say, "Hey Kobe, we tried. We gave you the money you wanted, and the players you wanted." |

Wasn't Ariza that guy who said he'd love to be back in LA, yet is playing hardball and acting like he's worth more than 6 mil? There are a LOT of people I would pay 6 mil for over Ariza, so he should be grateful he was given his chance. Talking to Cleveland for the same price as we offered him, and the organization is at fault? Riiiiiiiiight. |
