| I don't think we can offer enough to lure Smith away from Denver, I could be wrong. I think the more likely option would be a sign and trade, sasha being the most likely candidate, but i would rather have Sasha |

| I live in Denver and watch JR all the time. The Lakers do not want him. He's got tons of ability, but he's immature, doesn't listen to coaches and falls asleep on Defense. |

But without thread clutter, we wouldn't have new threads to make it seem as if there is action out there in Lakerland....

Great idea Dave!
I feel that we need to go after a veteran player. We have a very young team and one that lacks a ton of experience aside from Kobe and DFish. Kurt Thomas should have been at the top of the list, but unfortunately SA snatched him back up.
You may think I'm crazy, but I would go after Latrell Spreewell and see if he is at all interested in playing ball for less than $14mil a season. After Spreewell I would go after Bonzi Wells, Kareem Rush or Kwame Brown. |

The Lakers need a backup PF-C
1)Kwame Brown
Salary 2008: $9,379,279
2)Francisco Elson
Salary 2008: $3,000,000
3)Lorenzen Wright
Salary 2008: $3,250,000
4)Brian Skinner
Salary 2008: $770,610
5)Pat Garrity
Salary 2008: $3,818,750
6)Adonal Foyle
Salary 2008: $1,219,590
What do you think? The Lakers could probably get these guys for like 1 mil a year. Then, they could use their MLE to try and steal a guy like:
1)Josh Smith
Salary 2008: $2,243,543
2)Bonzi Wells
Salary 2008: $2,284,200
3)MO Evans
Salary 2008: $1,740,000
4)Michael Finley
Salary 2008: $3,103,000 |

Finley and Evans aren't available and Josh Sith is looking for like 10 mil a year and he would have to be traded for. I like pretty much everyone on the first list except garrity and foyle |

Sadly, the more I look at it, the more it seems like we're going to take Kwame Brown back.
But do we even have a chance at Elson? Because if we could...He's the type of PF/C we need; tough, decent defense with long arms, can finish better than Kwame -_- Plus, it doesn't hurt to have another international player with us (look at the Spurs, full of international players and they're a legitimate dynasty. Has to be something in their water). Elson's Dutch or something, I think.
I haven't done any research; what's Elson's situation? |

Francisco Elson would love to return to the Nuggets, where he played from 2003-06, as a free-agent this summer, according to The Rocky Mountain News.
"I would be very excited to have the opportunity to play in Denver," Elson said. "It's the team that drafted me and a place I call my second home. The fans have been fantastic, and I respect the staff, Coach (George) Karl, and the guys on the team are all still friends."
The Nuggets are reportedly considering Elson as a replacement in the paint for recently-traded center Marcus Camby, with Chris Andersen and David Harrison listed as options, as well.

| I would like to see us get Harrison if we have an open roster spot and we can sign him for a minimum contract. He has a huge body and I believe he could develop into a good backup center. And if it doesn't work put im in the D league or move him elsewhere |

Just put a thought out there. Why not go after ryan gomes at power forward. He Is a free agent Last year he average 12 pts for minnesota & I remember he was the only one scoring against the lakers when we played them
other that Jefferson
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ryan_gomes/index.html
http://www.nba.com/games/20071109/MINLAL/boxscore.html
also look at that box score at mihm. He scored 10 pts and 10reb I think if he is healthy, he could be our back up. he can post up hit that 15ft shot and make free throws. I was watching Kobe's 81pt game the other day on FSN and Mihm did pretty good he had 12 pts and 8reb third to only of course Kobe and Smushs 13pts. Also he can block shots
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/s ... ayerId=549
look at 05-06 season
Fisher/Farmar
Kobe/ Sasha(resign)/Karl
Odom/Ariza/Walton
Gasol/Gomes/Vlad
Bynum/Mihm/Resign Mbenga or Gasol |

| He's asking for an MLE offer from the Wolves.. Not sure if the Lakers would want to spend their MLE this year when they have to save some $$ for Bynumite. |

| i like gomes but he is probably too expensive. we need to make sure sasha is signed, and if we go after a FA i think it should be another big man because mihm is always hurt. We should also resign mbenga for the vets minimum. |

| I definitely wouldn't mind picking up Gomes, but I don't know if we should do it for MLE. Maybe see how FA plays out and if he's still available, we could use it. I really want to resign Mbenga though. He didn't get a lot of playing time, but every time he did, he would hustle and can block shots. |

| a lot of people are posting ideas that we need to add another big name person to our team. Trust me when i saay that these are just ideas that are being thrown out there. But you align our starting five with any starting five in the league and our team is one of or maybe the best in the league. All we need is our starting five to use this summer to build chemistry within each other. I say just add a couple of role players to fill in and we're set. I agree with re-signing sasha adding kwame and keeping lamar. I would love to see lamar stay with this team longer than next year. we have a solid bench as is and maybe all we need is kwame and another shapr shooter to fill in as a role player in our bench. Trust when i say that we have a future SF if Lamar doesn't pan out in our team and that player if Ariza. |

| I agree I would love to get ratliff for minimal money. in very limited action he had 2.6 clocks per game last year and if him and Bynum are in together defense would be legit and on offense he just has to set screens and move the ball |

Josh Powell just got waived by the Clippers.
I think we should pick him up. He'll produce the same numbers as Ronny (not the energy though..), he's still young and he would be a serviceable back up at PF. |

| Add him to that 18-player list. The Iranian player and Josh Powell should be on that, not "Tractor". If people wanted Kwame for cheap, I see no reason with Powell. |

^ Farmar and Vujacic probably isn't enough to get Barbosa.
Oh, and this is a free agent thread. |

| ^ I could tell that that was a response to me, but I honestly couldn't understand it. |

| I don't think either Vujacic or Farmar is worth Barbosa. |

| Barbosa is great and all.. But I wouldn't be willing to trade Farmar and Vujacic. |

| How about Josh Powell? (C-F, 6-9, 240lbs) He was waived by the Clippers today & I think he would be a perfect replacement for Ronny w/Kwame already out of the picture. He averaged 5.5 points, 5.2 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game. This is probably the closest that we'll get to Ronny's 6.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg in 18.7 mpg. Well tell me what you guys think. |

I think Powell would be a good addition for what the Lakers need. He can rebound and can play decent defense. The one worry with him is that LA would be his 5th team. So either he has not found the right role yet or he is just not going to be that good of a player. |

| well i have to say that he would definitely replace ronny just fine. its just a matter of how cheap can we get him. he averaged 5 and 5 in 19 minutes of play last season. even though he put up those numbers on a crappy team i think he can easily replace ronny and his stats. |
