After participating fully in Wednesday’s open practice at STAPLES Center, Luke Walton told me he’s feeling “great,” and is hoping to participate in L.A.’s two games this weekend.

Just as he’s gaining strength in his ankle, Walton said he’s starting to feel comfortable and confident as he searches for his rhythm on the floor. Here’s the video:

Hope he returns to the OLD Luke Walton.

I think we need to get rid of giles, heath, and karl. Sun Jue should play in the D league for this year but other than that on paper, our bench is one of the elite. Peep the starting lineup and the 2nd squad I think it should be..

    Fisher
    Kobe
    Radmonavic
    Gasol
    Bynum

    2nd string
    Farmar
    Sasha
    Ariza
    Odom
    Powell

And still we have Mihm who is looking strong, Walton, if he gets back to his old self its very good, and Mbenga plays great D. And crawford, more consistent than Karl. We are set lets win the title!!!

I really like those line ups! I mean the second team you have there would be a quality starting unit. It would not win a title or anything, but could be a .500 team I think. That is an impressive thought of your second unit.

Odom - is a starter of course - so what a boost to have such a versatile starter in your second unit - who can rebound, run/pass and slash.

Sasha - 9th last year in behind arc shooting - so a true dead eye shooter and strong defender.

Ariza - defensive expert - gets lots of steals ad it a quick slasher/high flyer with some nice rebounding skills

Farmar - good outside shooter. fast driver to the lane and a player full of confidence.

Powell - he has really, really impressed me - this guy is a REBOUNDER - not doubt about it. He seems to always be in the right spot. He also is a smart player that doesn't get rattled and make dumb fouls or turnovers - really good backup after we lost Ronny - in my opinion he is a better all around player then Ronny - he even has a nice 15 footer. And we got him for 850K for this year. Good Lord - that is a steal.

This unit has young legs too and can run. The second unit has all the right stuff you need. Two knock down shooter in Sasha and Farmar from the outside - two great rebounders in Odom and Powell - even Ariza has a good nose for boards. Three very nice defenders in Ariza, Powell and Sasha. Two good passers in Lamar and Jordan and those guys are also good ball handlers - and Sasha can bring the ball up too. A nice second unit.

And like you said - we have a good looking Mihm or Mbenga if they have to match up with more size in the second unit. With a healthy and motivated Luke on the bench this team is super deep. Wow. When you are so deep that you can with a straight face and clear conscience say that Lamar should come off the bench - wow. Srong lineup

I would put Ariza in the starting lineup. We have plenty of offensive firepower with Kobe, Bynum and Gasol and need some lockdown defense. Otherwise, it looks good. Maybe Luke will surprise us and work his way back into consideration.

Ariza would be a good fit but with radmon there we would have a deadly three point shooter if he keeps shooting the way he is right now in the pre-season. He is lookin like the radmon from Seattle. When kobe drives or they double pau or Drew, Radmon can stroke it thats the advantage he has on Ariza. And with the second string, we have another killer wth the 3 which is sasha.

I would have completely agreed with you before pre-season. But the one thing that I am seeing so far is how much room having two excellent low post or mid-post players need. With that being the case - we definitely can't let defenses sag off the outside shooters and pack it in - like the Celtics - in the middle. This cuts off Kobe's driving ability and makes for a lot of hands around Pau and now Andrew. So a shooter like Rad does keep his player away from the paint and gives some breathing room for the Lakers. I would have to go with the Radman with the starting line up. And my latest idea is to slide Kobe to small forward and have Sasha start.
