What're our team needs? I'll tell you what they are, here:

PG- We need not worry about this position, we have Fisher, tons of experience, Farmar, all he needs to do is work on staying in front of his man and get a decent jumpshot, and Sun Yue is also possibly expected to accompany us, so if we get another beside those 3, we'd have way too much PG's, WAY TOO MUCH!

SG- Kobe can play some really good minutes, but sometimes he plays the SF position, so we'll need maybe 2 back-ups at SG, and those two we already have (Sasha hopefully will re-sign with us) are Sasha and Coby Karl, getting 4 SG's would be too much, and again, WAY TOO MUCH!

SF- Kobe sometimes plays at this position, but with Radmanovic and Odom being one of the most talked about Laker players being traded, it's possible that the guys who'll be occupying the SF position may be: Kobe, Ariza, Odom (if he stays, and if he's traded, then it'll be Marion/Artest), but still, we really do not need 5 PEOPLE OCCUPYING THE SF POSITION (if Fluke and the Space Cadet stay, we'll have 5 SF's, YIKES!)!

PF- This is probably the position we'll need the most help in, but Gasol and Odom can play PF, so I guess we don't gotta worry SO much. But still, we'll need at least one good back-up PF, definitely. If we complete the Artest=Odom trade, we're screwed. That's a little bit of the reason as to why I don't want Artest if it rids us of Odom, it'll ruin the PF position, but this is only a little part of it...so overall...DON'T TRADE ODOM FOR ARTEST, ONLY TRADE FOR ARTEST IF IT DOESN'T RID US OF ODOM!

Center- This position we don't need much improvement in either, as Bynum, Mihm (he could be pretty healthy this year, you never know), Mbenga, and Gasol can all play the C position, and they can play it pretty well! If we get another C, we'd be overstocked at the Center position and have to trade one of our Centers *cough* Mihm *cough*.

Overall, I highly doubt we'll be trying to get another PG, SG (besides Sasha, of course), SF (not including Artest), or Center, but hopefully, we will be in some good amounts of talking with free-agent PF's, and hopefully we don't pull the trigger on the Artest trade as we'd be losing a reliable PF in Odom (in case of injury, and Radmanovic can't play PF at all), but, if we also get Kenny Thomas, then maybe I'll lighten up...and also if we can include either Fluke or the 'Space Cadet' or both and get some other big body in the trade like maybe the like of Shelden Williams with Fluke in the trade, then maybe...just maybe...I'll say "yes" to the Artest for Odom aquisition.

we need a backup C and a backup PF, and a SF who can hit a 3.  the C and/or back up pf need to be able to bang, get rebounds, commit hard fouls, and as a bonus, play good D.  GO LAKERS!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. I could see some players that I really would "like" to join the Lakers. But as far as "desire" goes, it would have to be someone with breasts, not a chest.

we need a defensive tough player at the 3 who can catch and shoot (basically a defensive true SF), and i also believe we need a tough defensive back-up F/C, someone like a Kurt Thomas or Francisco Elson.

Limiting my response only to the starting rotation - obviously, at present, we most need help at Small Forward.

    we need some toughness inside....
Defensive problem at the SF can be solved, if we work from the training camp in a defensive scheme. vlad could be useful with another year of experience in the triangle, add ariza and a healthy luke.... and possibly Lamar.

we need a banger, a guy who comes from the bench and play some quality D and grad some rebounds, ala Thomas or PJ Brown...

I wanted the lakers to trade Lamar for arrest all along right until turiaf signed with GS. Now I think that if we get artest were going to be overstacked at the SF and short on the PF spot. Keep Odom in LA cuz kurt Thomas ain't gonna cut it as our back up. He's washed up.

And a few others noted it, it's not the positions, it's the defense. We need scary defense at the 3, that would cure a lot of ills, and "a tough defensive back-p F/C", an upgrade over Ronny; less cheerleading, more rebounds, blocks and D.

A really competent backup center. The Lakers problems came with heavier, stronger front courts that out muscled us on the boards. I'm fine with the starting lineup, with Bynum back in the groove. I don't think Gasol will be flexible enough to move back and forth between PF and C. Kwame backing up Bynum would work, or a Kurt Thomas. Of course, he brings salary cap problems galore.

we could offer thomas the mid level exception but obviously its damn expensive when you consider luxary tax considerations on top of that. I dont think we need any additions so long as gasol and bynum are both not injured at the same time. This is only if we resign sasha btw

I good solid "tweener" big. Someone who could play the PF or C. Kurt Thomas seems like the only available option.

Also, a pure defensive SF would be great.

you guys we have someone named Trevor Ariza who is a very defensive minded SF, if he bulks up a little and is COMPLETELY healthy he can guard other SF's

We're already stocked with sf's what we need is a reliable and defensive minded center who can also play power forward if need be to backstop andrew in case he is injured again.
