First it's all about the dollar for dollar. The Lakers need defense and rebounding with a touch of scoring. This trade might sound crazy but it just might be crazy enough to work. First, sign free agent Gerald Wallace with his 2 steals/ gm, 19 pts/ gm plus 7 boards / game he is a must to solidify the small foward position. As much as it pains me to say this, it means not resigning Luke Walton. Next we need rebounding and KG and J. O'neil seem out of reach costing too much. But what about trading Kwame Brown and Brian Cook for Tyson Chandler he brings down 12.4 rebounds a gm plus 1.8 blocks/ gm and he has a fg percentage of .624 nice!!! Finally the point and we need a guard that is a good defender and passer Jamaal Tinsley comes to mind with 12.8 ppg, 6.9 ast per gm, and 1.6 steals per gm. But will the pacers take Vlade Radmanovich in a trade? I did the research and all the sallaries match up pretty close so the starting line up would be Tyson Chandler, Lamar Odom, Gerald Wallace, Kobe Bryant, and Jamaal Tinsley. the bench would be Roni T, Mo Evans, S Vujacich, A Bynum and possible resign C Mihm plus draft pick or other F A signing.

The Hornets will not give up Chandler. Not after signing him big and having a career year. It is nice to have Chandler, but very unlikely.

Gerald Wallace won't sign with us because he will be seeking max pay. And we cannot offer that.

Tinsley might sign, but why not include JO with him if we're doing a deal with Indiana?

I still say get Pau and RonRon, but thats just me.

    Nice analysis though stat.

I agree Pandy. IF we meddle with Indiana's affairs, we might as well push for JO. No use getting Tinsley and Artest together. As if we don't have enough troubles of our own. If you are looking for a decent veteran PG that might fit our bill, look for Carlos Arroyo. 4M/year, expiring contract. If he doesn't work out, we got a safety net.

Nice Warren. Carlos Arroyo is a great pickup for sure. If Mo Williams is not available, it is nice having Puerto Rico on our side.

So, if Carlos Arroyo indeed signs with us, and if Memphis and Sacramento agrees to deal, do you feel me if our starters will be Arroyo, Bryant, Artest, Turiaf and Pau?

Hopefully we can still sign Magloire so he'll be starting instead of Ronny.

wallace would never sign for the mle. i wouldnt trade for tinsley unless oneal was part of the deal. tinsleys contract is a little high and i think we may have a shot at mo williams for the mle.

Kobe might be able to talk wallace into coming to LA for the MLE, BUT when it comes down to it, money talks and the bobcats need a franchise player to build around.

Gerald Wallace is not franchise player material. Sorry GW. And he is not signing with the Lakers because we can't offer him max pay.

gtf, I got to ask you a question. Are you high when you make these statements? They have never once considered Gerald Wallace to be the centerpiece for the Bobcats. Hell, it's more like Emeka Okafor. Besides, most of the players are too young. They want to feel it out for maybe another year and decide who they'll build around.

However, I really don't like that scenario at all. Especially because you didn't say anything about Farmar. It's almost like you've ignored him and I truly don't know what you've done with him.

If lakers need defense and rebounding who else to turn to then Camby. I would take Cambys D over Mutambo any day.

defense is personal will power and motivation by coaches and the players themselves. I think the big thing they need to do is find a consistent presence inside that will help add points every game. Kwame's defense near the end of the season was horrid when it came to sticking with the guard after a defensive pick and roll switch. with gut wreching mistakes like that almost every game showed me that finding a person who will improve this team defensively will not be a problem. When kwame scored 20 points the lakers won. Finding a peson who will average 20 points a night is a very hard task if you don't want to give up all potiental all star prospects and your 2nd best player and what not. Getting kobe help on the offensive end will also give kobe more energy on the defensive end because he'll be able to focus more there rather than having to worry about scoring 50+ for the lakers to win. Maybe getting paul gasol wouldn't be that bad of a decision afterall but with larry brown as their potential coach, i'm pretty sure they'll say Lamar Odom or bust.

That may be what he is talking about. May be they have already contacted Memphis and they agreed that if they get Oden, they will deal Gasol.

the offseason last year was a bust after losing a sure thing (up 3-1). But this offseason is another story! I can't believe i'm actually looking forward to the NBA lottery this tues lol. They really need to leak any information when it comes to trade talks after the lottery because i'm pretty sure that's when the lakers are going to get aggressive. I wonder if the lakers would be willing to throw away a trash player by moving up in the draft like 1-3 spots just to free up cap space.

Like in my other post. The more feasible (and sensible) trade would be for Pau Gasol. He is a legit low post threat and a nightly double double threat. a willing "second banana" and above average defender in the middle. Can play the PF or C spot also. I also like the Ron Artest idea. I hope the team gets him without giving up a major piece (much like the Rodman-Perdue trade). Then the team will have more pieces to trade for Gasol. If Larry Brown indeed coaches the Grizzlies, we can 1-on-1 swap Odom since Brown love him so much. If the team gets Gasol and Artest, and re-sign walton, then thats more than enough to replace Odom. Sad to say, he's not a second star material. He's a PG in a PF's body, and not a consistent scorer. Then they can either keep kwame or trade him for a vet PG or a (finley or stackhouse type) 6th man. Then the team can use the MLE for a veteran role player like PJ Brown or Kurt Thomas that will give stability to the Laker bench. If KG really wants to be a laker, then wait for his opt-out and sign him for the MLE after next season!

Gasol and Artest plus a Vet point will work.
