I think that Sun is destined to be a 2 or 3 for the Lakers. I think he is too slow to be a #1
actually he is supposedly pretty quick..according to chris paul when he was interviewed after usa played china.
I read that too, also Kobe had nice things to say about him, but neither mentioned position. Did you watch any of the China games? When I watched China he was not being used as a 1. They had two players that played the 1 pos. and were fast as well as good ball handlers and were smaller than Sun. To me Sun appeared slow but you can get fooled on TV. |

Sun 6'9" PG
Kobe 6'6"
LO 6'10" SF/Point-Forward
Pau 7'0" PF
Bynum 7'0" Center
Such a legit huge lineup |

| Sun Yue would be as tall as Magic was, so maybe he would be used as a #1. I have not seen anybody that tall play as good as Magic and we probably never will, but everything I have read about Sun sounds like he might be a good pick for the Lakers. |

| With those five that Lakeshow listed, it seems like the starting five for the Lakers would be slow. I don't know if a team could have so many tall players all playing together. It seems like there would be a lack of speed and fast breaks. Shorter players do have advantages on break aways. Tall players could control the boards, but I am not convinced that five tall starters would work. |

Sun's workout with the Lakers including him posting a time that was a full second faster than Farmer shuffling around the key and back. Farmar was at 11.5 seconds and Yue was 10.5. He handles the ball excellently, averages about 6-8 apg in China, shoots about 40% from 3 pt range, can rebound and block shots and received an endorsement from Kobe and several other Team USA players.
I don't think he and Farmar are comparable if ONLY due to the assists. PG's MUST average 7-10 apg in the NBA and Farmar and Fish combined average less than five. Get real...Yue is a critical missing ingredient who will be the starting PG in short order. |

What? Sun guarded Kobe bryant furing the olympics and did a damn good job of it. And for the last three years he has been guarding little chinese, most of whom im guessing are pretty quick. the only "slow" person would maybe be Odom at the three but im sure he will drop weight and get quicker in the offseason. I think that lineup will dominate, o and i still think Fisher wil start this year of course |

Your response shows you do not have an understanding of the Triangle offense or the level of passing ability of the other players on the team. LA does not need a 'classic' PG in that sense. Steve Nash, CP3, and others have high assist totals because they have the ball all the time and setup the offense. The Lakers offense is based on passing and movement based on the reads of players. Also, remember we have Pau (one of the better passing big men, Kobe who has the ball a ton, LO who is an excellent passer, etc...). Also note LA ranked 4th in the NBA last year in assists.
Also note that when the Bulls were running the triangle, Paxson and BJ Armstrong were the PG's and they were not assist machines. The triangle needs a PG that can hit the open jumpshot (look at Brian Shaw and Ron Harper) and neither was a high assist guy. |

ok ...BUT note that in the triangle offence(bigger guards are preferred) and ALSO...the guard should be able to hit a consistent midrange jumpshot and be able to drive the ball. BOTH OF THOSE TWO ELEMENTS farmar DOES NOT HAVE in his game...He has practically NO midrange game and Cannot get to the hoop. |

| where has this farmar has no drive to the hoop skills come from? Again you guys arent understanding the triangle at all, and its really annoying. How many times did you see Bj armstrong or Kerr, Shaw or Harper just break his man down and drive to the hoop? NOT OFTEN. The triangle doesnt call for guards to take their man off the dribble. It calls for them to feed the post and then cut off the post to the hoop, usually baseline. Farmar often does this and when he gets the ball he finishes well. And does anyone remember when Farmar mashed all over Duncan in San Antonio and posterized him. Too many people are assessing our current players solely on what happened in the finals. Farmar is great for the triangle |

Bigger guards may be preferred, but here is a fact...
Steve Kerr 6'1"
John Paxson 6'2"
B.J. Armstrong 6'2"
Craig Hodges 6'2"
Farmar 6'2"
Fisher 6'1"
These are the listed heights of the players. So there seems to be a MYTH about the bigger PG. Phil has one with all of these guys except for Farmar at this point. As I have said before Farmar is still young just like Yue. You make it sound like Yue will come in and light it up from outside and he has not proven anything yet. While Farmar has shown he can play in the NBA at this point. We have no idea what Farmar will bring this year. A midrange game and outside shot can be learned. I remember guys named Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson who could not shoot outside during their first few seasons, but they worked on it and became good outside shooters. Remember a guy named Kobe Bryant who shot 3 airballs in the NBA playoffs against Utah. He learned his outside shot.
So to say Farmar does not havea the element of an outside shot gives the guy no chance to improve. Also note Farmar can get to the basket. |

| YEAH..WOW..let me get this straight your comparing MJ, Magic johnson and KOBE...to jordan farmar....hmm..idk but i feel that those players were a little more gifted. and also..FARMAR now has a few seasons where he has played major minutes.......AND he has not improved his mid range game at all...one more thing...SINCE WHEN can farmar get to the hoop...if so..WHY does he always settle for the outside shot...HE almost NEVER gets to the ft line!! |

I agree with you and remember that this forum went wild over Crit. as being the next magic and he did a good job of warming the bench . Everytime a new face comes to the Lakers this forum dubs him with greatness before he even gets into his first game. We know what we have with Fish & Farmar and until someone better Prooves himself on the floor PJ will not make a change. Sun will need to earn it. It took Sasha 3 or 4 years get PJ's attention. |

If Odom(Lamar would be the playmaker) starts, Farmar as starter could work....
Same happened with Kerr, he was the starter, because pippen was the playmaker....
PS: yeah, I was really impressed when Farmar posterized Duncan... |

Seems not everyone is on the Sun Yue bandwagon.
Shanghaiist, a Shanghai website, is skeptical about Sun’s ability to find a spot in the Lakers’ crowded backcourt, calling his 6.8 points during the Olympics “pedestrian.”
It added that if he does stick around, the second-round draft pick’s presence will only serve “to sell a few jerseys on Wangfujing, and cement more Laker loyalty among the Kobe-loving Chinese market.”
The website further demeaned Sun’s nickname of “Chinese Magic Johnson” by saying that it won’t stick in a city that knows how the original Magic Johnson played.
They do have a point there. Just because you’re 6-foot-9 and can handle the ball doesn’t make you magic. Or Magic.

I honestly do feel that he shouldn't be called The Chinese Magic.\
But who cares, CP3 and Kobe praised him and they are players. Most of the critics are just people |

What do you expect CP3 and Kobe to say? He sucks, he's garbage, he has no chance of making the lakers next year? They just said what people want to hear, that's what athletes always do in interviews or when they are pressured into questions. |

Nope...not all the time. Take DeShawn Stevenson for example.
Yao Ming praised him as well and the dude speaks his mind. |
