Quote:
The Lakers have talked with representatives of Boston small forward James Posey and veteran San Antonio sharpshooter Brent Barry to gauge the free agents' interest.
Posey, a key reserve for the Celtics, is expected to draw the full mid-level exception of five years and about $30 million, though the Celtics have said they consider signing him an off-season priority.
Posey, though, is studying his options, primarily on championship contenders that include the Lakers, said his agent, Mark Bartelstein.
"I would say so," Bartelstein said. "When you get a taste of a championship, you want to keep winning them. The Lakers are a great team."
Posey, 31, averaged 6.7 points and 3.6 rebounds a game in the playoffs for the Celtics, including an 18-point outburst in the pivotal Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Posey was also on the Miami Heat team that won the championship in 2006.
Barry, 36, spent the last four seasons with the Spurs. He averaged 7.1 points last season, making a commendable 42.9% of his three-point attempts. He is a career 40.7% shooter from three-point range.

| Who wants cry baby Barry? I wouldn't trade for him. If we have some money left over and he is a fee agent, maybe. Trade Luke for him maybe. . . but let's keep our team as is. If we can get a superstar with a simple trade, then alright. But, let's not dismantle our team. |

Barry made minimal money last season, he basically fell into the Spurs' lap. He won't ask for much, I guarantee that, probably just the vet minimum.
I would prefer Posey though, if we can get him. He'll do well both on the offensive and the defensive ends. |

| Barry won't be able to cry about the Lakers anymore. I would like to see his brother do a color change about the Lakers when and if this happens. |

Posey would be a great addition to our team...but I've had some unpleasant emotions towards him in the past. I really disliked the Miami team he was on, and I obviously harbor some ill will toward his Boston team.
It'd just be hard to cheer for the guy. |

I would welcome both with open arms. And Posey is a hustler and hard worker, he would be perfect to come off the bench.

I dont see Posey leaving Boston....and I am not excited about getting Barry. Barry is getting up there in age and he has become a one trick pony. He is a streaky three point shooter..some games he is invisible.
I always thought Barry had the skills to be a better all around player,he had a nice career but he was never a star. Signing Barry does not thrill me. |

| ESPNEWS just made it sound like the Lakers would only sign these guys, if and only if, they can't re-sign Vujacic. |

Forget Barry and Posey
We dont need them especially Barry.
This team is fine. LA doesnt need a S.F. They got Odom, Ariza, Walton, and Radman. What LA need is a solid center to back up Bynum and who could start if he gets injured. Obviously Gasol is too frail to play center but can play fine as a P.F. I think if the Lakers had a solid backup center they would of without problems won the championship |

| I'd like to get posey, but barry is garbage. His time is done!. I wouldn't mind seeing Kwame back as a back up on the cheap side, very cheap side. We need someone in case Andrew gets hurt again. The Hands of Stone can actually play decent defense. |

| I like Posey better then Barry. Barry is up in age and is not a good defender. Posey is both a good three point shooter and a good defensive player. I don't think the Celtics would like to see him in the purple and gold. But he might bite since his agent says he wants to stay with a championship caliber team. |

| If any of them is better than Luke Walton or Vladimir Radmanovic, I'll take 'em. Without hesitation. So I'll take Barry's old a** over both Luke and Vlad. |

| Posey would be good for our team. So would mickael pietrus. Both are good defensive and would come off the bench. I am just being patient with whatever the lakers do. |

| Barry can't play D to save his life, Id welcome posey, but this is a wet dream, he's not coming to LA, becuase he won't leave boston to play for LA and LA aren't going to overpaid his butt. |

I think Posey wouldn't come to LA. His agent is just coercing Boston to pay him a ridiculous amount. This is because the Celtics would not let him come to us specifically. For that reason alone, I think they'll pay the guy to stay. Look how all the former Celtics (McHale and Bird) blocked our chances of KG and Jermaine ONeal to come over. They'll block us from Posey just in spite of us! Besides although I think Posey's decent, I still hate the guy for being on Celts and Heat... just like someone else said here. And he's not the only dude that can play some D.
I think no way should Barry come to us. He's retirement age. We're better off getting a shooter from another source. |
