im wondering the same thing myself. surely sasha knows that the lakers IS the only team willing to pay him a substantial amount of money. why is he holding out? also, what will be the scenario if he does not re-sign with the lakers? what will be the impact in terms of the lineup rotation and the MLE. will we be able to sign some other talented player since ronny is gone and if sasha does not come back?

as far as i am aware he is hoping to gain more money via an offer sheet much like ronny but so far no offers are forth coming. I dont think if he leaves it gives us any more leverage on the MLE i may be wrong on this but i dont think so since he and ronnys contracts were tiny and still leave us over the salary cap if they dont resign.

Sasha gained a lot of good will with the fans this past season ... I hope he doesn't toss it all away by coming off as selfish and ungrateful in the contract negotiations. I want him to get what he's worth but not to hold out for tooooooo long as if he's trying to squeeze out every penny.

Sasha must be starting to feel like the last kid picked for the team right now....don't worry Sasha, we still love ya and hopefully we will see you in a laker uniform this season.

then it is safe to assume that he will re-sign because if he does not, then he won't be on any teams lineup come the start of the season. the MLE is around 5 million right? surely there are still good players out there that will accept the 5 million and get the chance to play for the next NBA champions.

MLE is about 5.6mill i think. As for free agents that are left, im not quite sure but here is a list of the "top" free agents from espn, i think quite a few of them are now signed tho.

    Group II: Unrestricted free agents

    Thomas

    1. Kurt Thomas, Spurs: He's 35 years old but still tough enough to help just about any title contender. The Spurs got him in a steal of a deal at the trade deadline. Look for them to try to lock him up with a three-year deal this summer.

    2. James Posey, Celtics: Posey helped himself with a strong performance against the Lakers in the Finals. He's another player who should get a three- to four-year midlevel deal somewhere.

    3. Ricky Davis, Heat: The talented but troubled swingman hasn't helped his cause in his second tour with Miami. Pat Riley thought, after dumping him the first time, that Davis finally had the maturity to play for him. But Riley clearly is reassessing the situation. Davis looks like a midlevel-or-below type of player. I doubt he'll return to the Heat.

    4. Kwame Brown: The former No. 1 pick has run out of excuses. Yes, he's huge, athletic and only 25 years old. But after seven years in the league, he has yet to prove that he's anything more than a backup. Someone will pay him something, but no one expects much.

Livingston5. Shaun Livingston: He has amazing talent but will he ever recover from that horrific knee injury he suffered in 2007? With the Clippers using all of their money on Baron Davis, someone might try to roll the dice.

    6. Keyon Dooling, Magic: In a market starved for point guards, Dooling might be the best guy left on the board. He can be an excellent defender, has good size for his position and is coming off a solid season. He won't break the bank, and he's not a bad backup either.

    7. Brent Barry, Spurs: He still can shoot the basketball. Even though he's 36 years old, a number of teams would love to sign him.

    8. Carlos Arroyo, Magic: Arroyo isn't a sexy name, but the market has a shortage of point guards, and Arroyo was more than adequate as a backup in Orlando last season.

    9. Bostjan Nachbar, Nets: Nachbar is coming off the best season of his career with the Nets. He's not a starter, but he can provide some shooting and offense off the bench.

    10. Eduardo Najera, Nuggets: Najera is a tough, energy guy who'll rebound and bring some grit to your team. But at age 31, how much does he have left in the tank?

Other notables: Matt Barnes, Warriors; Alonzo Mourning, Heat; Patrick O'Bryant, Warriors; Jason Williams, Heat; Juwan Howard, Mavs; Jarvis Hayes, Pistons; Robert Horry, Spurs; Michael Finley, Spurs; Jannero Pargo, Hornets; Damon Stoudamire, Spurs; Sam Cassell, Celtics; Jamaal Magloire, Nets; Kareem Rush, Pacers; Gordan Giricek, Suns; Michael Doleac, Timberwolves; Francisco Elson, Oklahoma City; Quinton Ross, Clippers; Antoine Wright, Mavericks; Fred Jones, Knicks; Juan Dixon, Pistons; Maurice Evans, Magic; Primoz Brezec, Raptors; Anthony Johnson, Kings; Tyronn Lue, Kings; Theo Ratliff, Pistons; Adonal Foyle, Magic; Sebastian Telfair, Timberwolves; Kirk Snyder, Timberwolves; David Harrison, Pacers; Walter Herrmann, Pistons; Tony Allen, Celtics; Salim Stoudamire, Hawks; Mickael Gelabale, Oklahoma City; Randolph Morris, Knicks.

tempy, thanks for the list. it only proves that there are lots of good players still out there just waiting to be signed up. much as i like sasha, i secretly hope that he won't re-sign. by waiting and waiting i feel that he is becoming too greedy. we should use the MLE on one of those still unsigned players. i personally would have preferred posey since he is one of the reason why we lost the finals last season. too bad he already signed with hornets.

Now with Turiaf gone, THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY REASON WHY THE LAKERS SHOULDNT RESIGN SASHA

the lakers have already offered a 2 million plus contract to sasha and 1 million plus to ronny. ronny is gone. the problem is sasha is still holding out for more. remember the problem with rad and luke. they were given bloated contracts and now they are lodestones around the team's neck.

    Flamber,
I think you mean "millstone". A "lodestone" is almost a historical artefact. It was usually a small pointy piece of magnetite that ancient mariners used to orient themselves (i.e. a sort of crude compass).

Aside from this aside, let's try and keep Walton around at least for another year and see if after the surgery he can regain the usefullness of a couple of years ago. As far as Space Balls - it is well known that I am probably his largest detractor on this site - would agree with just about anything to get this guy off the team.

thank you for the correction sir. The contracts of vlad and luke are millstones around the neck of the team.... or should i say boulders. Very Happy
