When the Miami Heat let James Posey slip away most people just shrugged their shoulders and kept going about their business. No big deal, right? He was a minor participant for the Heat during their championship run. Then again, his new team is where his old team was, on the verge of winning a championship.
I'm not suggesting that Posey is the sole reason the Celtics are close to adding yet another banner to the rafters of the Garden, but he is the kind of player every championship team needs - the kind the Lakers are lacking at present. Posey is the Jerome Kersey, the Mario Elie, the Tayshaun Prince - the guy who makes the big stop, makes the extra hustle play, and the guy who can also hit a big shot when you need one to help his team get over the hump.
It's interesting, then, that printed reports today have Posey on the Lakers' summer free agency list. Posey took a minimal deal from the Celtics, one of the advantages of which was opt-out language, so that he could show his value and hopefully earn a bigger deal for next season. One option will, of course, be for the Celtics to retain him. It's hard to imagine that they wouldn't if they win a title this week, but if they don't Posey could become the key player for the Lakers next season . . .and possibly help produce a championship for them. Maybe Posey will actually become the next Robert Horry, going from team to team bringing championships in his wake despite most of his work being invisible in the box score. If he wins a title this year in Boston and next year in LA, don't be surprised to see his name come up a lot more often.

| Yeah i think we do need a guy like James hes a dead eye 3 pt shooter good FT shooter and plays very good defense. The only downside to this guy is his mid range jump shots which he really sucks at but this guy could have an impact like Sasha the pimp machine this season if we get him that is.... and that pretty much makes Vlad Rad expandable and if we can somehow get rid of his contract and get Posey that would be a pretty sweet deal |

Posey would receive $3.4 million from the Celtics, should he decide to stick with them. This would most likely mean that we'd have to offer the MLE to obtain him.
He'd definitely fit in well at the 3. Posey's what this team needs: aggressiveness, shooting ability, and defensive intensity. He can do all the dirty work.........
This is the kind of player that you HATE on the opposing team. However, you'd love him if he was on your team. |

| I hate him as a member of the celtics and the heat, and have called him a bandwagoner, but I guess if he were to come here, you can't help but support the guy. He's like sasha. A pest to other teams, but we love him. Heck if, they gave Vlad 5 million a year, I'd take Posey for that without a second thought. |

| I would love to have Posey on this Laker squad next season...I don't think Walton and Radman are ever going to give the Lakers what they really need, and that is defense...Ariza I don't mind having on the team and I hope the Lakers resign him...but with Sasha being able to leave this summer and possibly getting a pretty big pay raise, maybe too much for the Lakers, Posey would be great to have...he's just what optimistic said, you'd love to have him on your team, but hate him when he's on a different team...plus he's already got championship experience and we all know he can hit big shots...and if Posey is smart, he will realize that the Lakers have the best player in the world on their team, followed by and up and coming star in Bynum, two multi-talented players in Gasol & Odom, a veteran in Derek Fisher who has much experience and who everybody loves(except for the Jazz & Spurs fans), and of course, the Bench Mob, who Posey would have the chance to be part of...if the Lakers can somehow comeback and win this Championship this year, I think Posey would be a fool not to join the Lakers, but even if the Lakers fall short, Posey would still be a fool not to try and become a Laker... |
