| Maybe if Phil Jackson started giving Ariza more playing time, we wouldn't be discussing this.. sad trip for the lakers today. |

| well, artest may be a reality come next season. i hope we do get him. trust me, i know phil for a long time now watching him coach the bulls to six titles and now with the lakers. odom is as good as gone. there is a reason why he's putting odom on the bench during the finals. |

You know it is sad but the fact that Odom was on the bench during crunch time throughout the series is an indication that indeed he might be gone. That is a great point.
Odom is a VERY attractive trade right now because he has such a huge contract and is in the last year. I mean do you honestly believe we are going to re-sign him for 14-15mil per year at the end of next year? What with Bynum ready to roll? And not just because of his performance so far (which has been solid I will admit). It's just not in the numbers. I think we may stick with him until the trade deadline next season and then ship him off... Many teams will be willing to take him because he is an awesome baller and has that huge contract coming off the books.
I personally don't really want to see this. I like Odom, he is a great player with a lot of different skills that we could use. But don't forget that he did struggle in the earlier part of the season when Bynum was dominating inside. Remember how his rebounding numbers were low and 4s sagged off of him to double Bynum? It was really the arrival of Pau that helped Odom because he was now again in the mix down low. His numbers jumped in the second half of the series. However, the reality is that next season Laker team is going to look more like the early season Lakers than the latter. That means that Odom might again be redundant, with rebounding and interior defense taken care of by Bynum. I can see the Lakers taking half a year to see A) How well Bynum recovers and B) How well Artest plays with the Kings and then flip him... |

Screw the team chemistry. That'll be figured out in training camp and early season. Ron Artest wouldn't be the nutcase he is under Phil Jackson. Maybe all his zen stuff would make Ron Ron more level headed.
Fisher
Kobe
Artest
Gasol
Bynum
That team would beat this current Boston team, easy. |

| Don´t forget a low post defender, a guy who can come from the bench, play good D and get some boards at PF and Center, Example: Mcdyess, because gasol can´t play D.... |

| artest would thrive on a phil jax team much like rodman did. phil will just sprinkle some zen dust on him and give him a shot of purple zen and everything will be fine. |

| without a doubt Ron would help at the SF spot which is our weakness, but what happens to rebounds? The root of the problem is Bynum's absence more than any other thing I can see. Those easy layups Paul gets while going baseline gets erased or altered with him in the lineup, Pau doesn't know whether to help middle or baseline. Bynum can't be outmuscled for offensive boards like Odom and Pau. Bynum makes catches and dunks the ball, not watch his soft layups get blocked. I almost lost my mind when I saw Vlad watch Ray Allen lay the ball up in front of him. Phil should have asked for him to turn in his uniform and just go to the club early. |

I think we should see how everything is going with Bynum in the lineup first. We have not seen Bynum,Gasol, and Odom together yet. We are better then all the teams in the West right now..even more so with Bynum..and with Bynum we are better then Boston also next year. No need to panic. We will be 10 deep easy next year. Before everyone starts talking about trading Odom or Gasol can we see them play with Bynum first??
If its not going well which I dont see happening..(I think the Lakers have a big record next year) then at the trade deadline we could look at trades but why now?
As far as Odom goes if he is bad next year we can trade him or let him walk after next season..if he is good we could still keep him depending on what type of money he wants. Maybe he takes less money...maybe he does not want to go to a losing team that can give him more money. But thats after next year.
And Artest can be a cancer and why would the Kings trade with their rival the lakers? Also did Dr Buss say he did not want artest on the team last year? And why would the Kings want Odom's huge contract if they are rebuilding? Lakers are in the finals this year without Bynum..dont be so quick to run Odom out just yet or run Artest in here either. Its not a time to panic. The time to panic was when Kobe said he wanted out!!
I have my issues with Odom but I would not want to see him on Portland or the Spurs either. Lets see how it plays out with Bynum next year..when the Lakers are 40-10 next year I think all this panic trade stuff will stop. |

well our rebounds would improve with Bynum back in the line up, right? I mean that would be the idea of giving up Odom for Artest, in that we can afford to lose his rebounding if Bynum gets back to the 3 spot.
Look I like the idea of getting Artest for Odom, I don't even mind that he is a nutcase since as people already said PJ can work around that. But what happens when our team has Walton, Radmanovic, Ariza and Artest at the small forward? Do we just stop playing Radmanovic and Walton? I'm cool with that, but their contracts expire in like the 23rd Century. Oh and forget about trading either one of them... they are basically untradable for the next 2-3 years.
It would be great if we could somehow convince Sacramento to take both Odom AND Walton. They might do that since they would still get Odom's huge contract off their cap once the season ends. Still, it is a problem of brining another player who can only play 3 or 2. The thing about Odom that makes him so attractive is that he CAN play the 4 and he can play a pretty darn good 4. Don't forget that we could bring him off the bench next year to rest both Gasol and Bynum, play him 30+ minutes and basically just rotate the three of them throughout the game, with very little time for Ronny and/or Mihm.
My point is this... If Odom is supposed to play the 3 next year then forget about it. If we can work him in as a back-up 4 then he is not such a tragic choice. Whatever we do, we need to keep in mind the fact that we probably won't re-sign him to 14mill next year so you don't want to lose him for nothing. |
