It is widely believed that Gilbert Arenas will re-sign with the Wizards after officially opting out on Tuesday, but the Lakers and Magic could court the guard, according to The Washington Post.
Arenas grew up in Los Angeles and has always expressed his love for the Lakers. In addition, he's familiar with Orlando GM Otis Smith from their days with Golden State.

| I'm not sure the Lakers are in need of guards. As noticed this season, we rely heavily on decent bigs. with no gauruntee that lamar is a keeper, maybe the Lakers priority is to sign someone with size? |

My choices for the off season are
1. Mike Miller-Pure Shooter when Bynum or Gasol Get Double
2. Ron Artest-Defender and Could Score |

Quite the contary my friend. He opted out for a smaller contract with the Wiz. Why? To give the Wizards more room to re-sign Jamison. |

I wouldn't make any moves this off season. I have a really big feeling that Odom will flourish with Pau and Bynum out there.
But we need to get rid of Mbenga, Newble, Mihm, and Walton. Cause they have no point on this team. They get no playing time and I would like Coby Karl to be active every game so he can be a good backup guard in the future. |

| The Washington Post must be running out of things to write. How do you court an allstar guard with no money? Do we sacrifice the rebounding of Odom for more scoring? No doubt he's a talented player, but does he truly fit? I'm thinking no. |

i totally agree with u, but i think the the lakers will at least be keeping one of those 4 players. as for coby karl i really dont want to see him go anywhere. just like u said, give him more playing time so he'll turn into a great backup. in the 2-3 minutes he plays in those few games b4, he looked alright. hey he made back-to-back 3 pointers(i think), he should teach walton a thing or 2 mayb.. |

I would have to agree with you. The Lakers are in desperate need for depth in the frontcourt. Gasol, Odom and Bynum, while a tough line to defend, can only stay on the court for so long. It would behoove our team to pick up a good, physical veteran to back them up. Especially, Bynum. As much energy as Turiaf brings to the floor, he isn't a backup center. He is better suited at the power forward position. |

I'll believe it when I see it. Athletes have a habit of saying things and meaning another. Don't belive for a second that an athlete in his prime would be willing to take a paycut and take one for the team. He's had an injury filled season, what if he took a paycut and then had a career ending injury? |

well from what i've seen, arenas says he will do something then does it. of course i'm not talking about his foolish game predictions. i just remember espn reporting that he was waiting for a bigger contract. but then again it would make sense if he took the paycut for Jamison, because he said that he wouldn't return to the wizards if butler and jamison weren't there. but all in all and in the end i think that injuries are going to play a big role in the rest of arenas career. |

| Yes, I don't believe in his altruistic soul either. It is quite simple why he opted out now. By opting out he now can negotiate a new contract. You can bet your bippy that it will not be for less money. It was the only logical thing for him to do. This guy's knees are shot. He probably will not come back in any useful form the next time he goes down with a knee problem, and you can bet it will happen! Had he not opted out now, then he would have played next season under the present contract, and faced with the prospect of having to negotiate a contract at the end of next season. He probably figures that he has to get the long-term contract and the big moolah cinched up right now, because he probably figures that he will have his career-ending knee injury sometime next year! The guy isn't dumb, and I think his calculation is probably correct. For all his proferring support for Jamison, when push comes to shove, that is when money comes to more money, then Jamison will be quietly forgotten... |

on the question of whether arenas would fit:
actually, yes he would. He is a long and "big" guard who would be perfect in the triangle. His deficiencies as a point guard would disappear since he wouldn't have to ball handle, but at the same time his great three point shooting would work great to balance the floor. Also, he is an underrated defender, he is very long and has great hands. I could see him changing his game to fit PJ's triangle and defensive needs similar to what Ron Harper did (who by the way was a BIG TIME scorer with the Clippers) when he came to Chicago. The only question mark would be whether Arenas would be comfortable reducing his ball-handling offensive role the way Harper did.
But this is just me talking about a hypothetical fit. Arenas is not going to come to the Lakers because he is not crazy and will ask for the max. Also, considering that he is injury prone, even if he may be a good fit, I would probably not want us to give up either cap room or a solid player for him. |

| the question is...who would he replace? we have fish...granted he's in his mid 30s and farmar is coming up and could quite possibly be fish's successor as the starting PG. i would not want to have kobe be SF, he's best at SG. and i believe that he will stay the wiz regardless. |

| I'd do a sign-and-trade for Arenas by giving up Lamar. |
