Quote:
There is no market for T.J. Ford, while teams privately covet Jose Calderon, who would make both a playing and cultural fit in markets such as Miami and Los Angeles. Not that the Raptors needed further evidence of the growing divide at the point, but quotes attributed to Calderon highlight a rift with Ford. "I would like to start and that's the most important thing,'' Calderon is quoted as saying in yesterday's edition of the Spanish daily sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, a sentiment he first shared with visitors to his website. But now comes the kicker. Continued Calderon in the article: "I've been two years with him but I don't know if I could be another year because things would have to change." Barring a complete personality makeover by Ford, which doesn't seem likely, nothing can change in Raptorland. That is why a change in scenery for Calderon is best for all parties concerned.

I doubt it would happen but just throwing it out there.. |

| Let me get this straight, after the year that Calderon had, he would command a decent sized contract. So, how do we suppose to afford him? |

Farmar is a nice point guard for them
Vlade will be great at their system and
carl and mbenga are just subs for that team |

| If Calderon had more than one good season then I could understand people drooling over the guy. However how many players have had a great season only to get rewarded with a nice contract and revert back to their usual ways........see Tim Thomas or Eddy Curry. |

Sucky player? He averaged 11 2 and 8. That's not bad for a guy who shares minutes with TJ Ford. |

Calderon has everything to shine in the lakers triangle.
Size(6'3)
Great ball handling(average 3-5 ast for every TO, thats crazy)
A threat from behind the arc.
Great IQ
Great Passing skills.
Too bad he had a phenomenal season and he may want the big money.
Off topic: I suck, I used to like Smush parker. He was playing cool at the start of 2006-2007 season. |

| Calderon in a sign and trade for Vlade and Farmar is very possible. Colangelo (Toronto's GM) loves the 3-ball and might take a chance on Vlade. It's probably just wishful thinking, but it would be oh so sweet if it came to fruition. |

| You're not just saying that because of your username, are you? I don't think the lakers will aggresively pursue a pg in the summer, but I bet they will be looking at offers. If a guy's name comes up, and he is a better player than farmar, how can you not pursue that? Maybe not Calderon, but a guy like Devin Harris (although I doubt New Jersey will let him go). Because I mean, let's face it. Farmar's game just simply doesn't fit the triangle. He would do better in a more traditional offense, where is the main ballhandler. |

| I don't see farmar as a pg playmaker. He is just a shooting guard. All he does catches and shoots. |

Before u start talking from ur rear end, please have knowledge about the game of basketball and the NBA....
Jose got robbed fromt he allstar game in the EAST
that is how good he is......He is an excellent shooter, can score, pass, and do watever he wants
He can be our starting PG cause fish is not getting any younger...
Plus i hate when people are saying that jordan is the future
PLEASE, watch bball!
Jordan cannot be our future he is funking it on the playoffs!
He is too short
He cannot Defend
and he is not a true PG
IS a combo PG like fish
We need another play maker at the guard position....
rest my case
jordan and Vlade might work after we win a ring and pau ask for calderon to come play for him lol |

| Omarkb24: I think you should ease up on Farmar, the guy is a 2nd year player. Since you're telling ballerxjms about needing to have knowledge of the game, then I can only assume you're knowledgable enough to know that Farmar is a 2nd year player who is unconfident right now. When you have an unconfident player then you have an ineffective player and that's what he is truly ineffective. Since you mentioned that Farmar is too short at 6'2", I guess that monstrous 6'3" that Calderon is must truly tower over Farmar. Farmar without a doubt needs to develop as a defender and a playmaker, which is something I feel most players playing pg should be. Farmar is already a pretty good finisher, I think when he starts learning how to back up to give himself some space in order to penetrate then he will be a lot better. We traded Crittenton who I thought was going to be the better player, so Farmar is the guy. I wouldn't necessarily label him as the future as if he is the second coming or anything, but they guy showed great improvement from seasons 1 to 2 and he'll enter into season 3, which seems to be the season that players put it together, somewhat like your boy Calderon. |

| If anything, we need a big bruising PG, not another little minnow. Changes at this position may not be the greatest need we have at the moment. It is much more important, in my opinion, that we have a positive resolution vis-a-vis Lamar Odom! |

Farmar reminds me Ellis. Both can shine in a run and gun system. Not too much to offer in a half court offense.
if he going to stay in LA, he needs to develop a more "going to the basket" game. Farmar loves LA and Im confident he´s going to find a way to help the team down the stretch. |

| I think Farmar is the future starting PG. thats not to say I think he'll be an All star, but i do think he'll develop into a decent starter. Picking up an affordable vet. like Ty Lue as discussed on other threads is a good idea. Farmar is still young, and Fisher has a couple of years left. If Farmar doesn't continue to show promise, then theres still time to replace him in the next two seasons. |

| I dont know about picking up calderon, i mean he said he wanted to be a starter in toronto, which isnt likely to happen, or a starter somewhere else. I am also assuming that he would like some big minutes and to be in at the last moments of games. I think fish will still be the starter next year and maybe the year after that. He would be like ron harper in the three peat days and how he would start the game and stay in for about 10-15 minutes to get the lakers situated in the offense, then he would leave for pretty much the entire game until crunch time, if it was necessary for him to come in, or in the middle of the game if the lakers are falling apart and then he can get them back into the offense again. I know fish is pretty much the only guy kobe has complete confidence and trust in, not to mention probably his best friend on the team so i do not think that he would be willing to just brush fish aside and welcome in calderon to take his spot. Stick with farmar for another year and if he just disappears again next year like he did this post season, then we start shopping around for another PG. |

Calderon from what I can tell would thrive having the ball in his hands ditibuting shots, etc... I'm not sure the triangle offense is the best fit for him, he needs to go to NY where he can run Dantoni's system.
CAZ: You're right about Farmar needing to be in an uptempo system. He's better at pushing the ball and I think when Ariza was injured it sort of hurt his game a little. The reason I say that is because Ariza would run and fill the lane with him, what's the use of pushing the bll when no one is running with you and I think that's what is hurting his game a little bit. |
