this is only a rumor, but i have heard that there is speculation that the Heat might trade the #2 pick, possibly to the lakers. Don't have a link for this, but a friend I know in Miami said he was listening to the radio, and there was talk about the Lakers getting the #2 pick in a trade. Again, not sure if this is true, but if it is, who do you think the lakers would give up? I'm thinking they would probably have to take on some bad contracts, and Miami would have to get a good player, probably a guy like LO. Cuz' there is no way in hell Miami is gonna trade that #2 pick for some scrubs. You guys might think it is crazy that Miami would give up the 2nd pick, but think about it. D Wade is frustrated down there in Miami. He wants a group of veteran guys, to help him get back to the top, and doesn't want to wait more years for the Heat to become contenders. Again, not sure if this is true, but you never know. I have seen some pretty crazy things in sports over the years.

Whoa. Getting a little emotional there. I didn't say that it was true, just said it was speculation. Pat Riley already said after the draft that they might trade the #2 pick. It could happen, but just would depend on who they would give up. It's not like they are in the Western Conference.

the lakers wouldn't trade bynum. they would probably trade Kobe before they would trade Bynum, although Kobe does have a no-trade clause.

Difference between speculation and Lord of the Rings type fantasy, that's not even close to being rumor material. You're talking about trading either Beasley or Rose to the Lakers for what player to get Miami over the top? Well, I guess I stand corrected, I actually googled it and I guess this is what was said on the radio station.
This is posted by a user on another site.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!! They just talked about the #2 pick on a radio show in Miami, according to Joel McDonnell, and he said that Pat Riley wants Cap space to be able to get a bigtime player in 2010. The deal would be for the following:
To Miami:
Lamar Odom(expiring)
2009 second round pick
To Lakers:
Mark Blount-C
Udonis Haslem- F
#2 pick in the 2008 draft
If you are the Lakers, do you do this deal if it is offered to you?

I would do that deal. I don't see why people think the lakers getting the #2 pick is so impossible. If the phoenix suns had the #2 pick, then I would say yes. Miami is in the east, and is only going down. Fact of the matter is that if teams don't like what they get, they are gonna try and get rid of it.

The ONLY way I'd even consider this is if we were for sure getting Beasley. L.O. is playing like a monster right now and if we traded him, we'd have a big hit to the SF spot. Especially considering a Bynum/Gasol/Lamar Odom front court could go down as one of, if not the best in history. We have Fisher and Farmar right now and would need a SF more than a PG.

Kobe420: Very valid point you bring up. It seems like none of these radio rumors are true anyway. I don't recall hearing anything about any Ariza or Gasol rumors on these radio stations, and the Lakers usually are hush-hush on any dealings. I think Chicago would be a fool not to take Beasley with the top pick anyway, so that leaves Rose as the 2nd pick.

After rebuilding for the future and almost loosing our superstar, we finally have the players around Kobe to win a string of Championships and people are already talking about trading key veterans for rookies who might not produce for 2 to 3 years. Enough of the crazy talk.

I don't see it ... give up a great (for the Lakers ball movement style) SF? Who would start there? Ariza? Radmon? Newble? Walton? ... Lakers would loose a lot. And gain what? Someone to play the 1 guard behind Fish and Farmar?
Of course, Lakers could trade Farmar ... but then you're down a starting SF AND and big spark off the bench that can run the tri offense.
No, this off season will be spent trying to keep all the Lakers signed, extended, and happy while making as few changes as possible. |

Yea, sure all that will be good, if Lamar will take a pay cut in the future. I don't understand how some members on this site actually think he will sign another contract with the lakers, getting 7-8 million a year. Lamar won't take a pay cut, especially since he will only be at a high level for so long. How many more years can he continue to play at a high level? That's probably the question the Lakers will be asking themselves. Lamar is gonna want the biggest contract he can get, whether the Lakers like it or not. Fisher is able to still play well at 34, because that's the PG spot. There isn't much banging and wear and tear at the PG spot. At the SF spot, however, I find it hard to believe Lamar will continue to play very well for many more years. How old is he? 29? And then some people are saying Jerry Buss will give him the money he wants? Fat chance. Look at the Lakers' contracts back in 2004. Buss didn't give Shaq the contract he wanted, because he also was wondering how many more years he can play at a high level. And he was right with that move. Honestly, some people get sucked into this loyalty thing. Well let me tell you: There is no loyalty in professional sports. Don't forget they will also have to sign AB to a long term contract, which will net him around $15 million annually for probably 5 or 6 years. I don't think Buss wants to pay 4 players in double digit millions.

If we get artest with the MLE, we won't need Lamar or Ariza. If we get Rose (An inside source said Chicago will pick Beasly) in a trade we won't need Farmar, our PG future would be set. I dont mind trading Ariza and Farmar to get the pick, but that probably won't happen. I don't even mind trading Odom to get the pick, our lineup would still be fisher, kobe, artest, Pau, bynum, with rose coming off the bench. Rose might even start.
