| Does anybody have a status of Kobe's back injury? He looked pretty bad and I want to make sure he will be able to play in the next game. If we lose him then we can kiss our championship goodbye. |

Well, I heard that the post-game report mentioned Kobe coudn’t stand up on the plane due to his back. Therefore, it could be a bit more serious than we thought. Also, when he went to the podium, he was standing up. Definetely not good signs…
Still, even so, I think Kobe will be fine. He has enough time to rest, until the next game..... |

| This is Kobe we are talking about. This guy is an absolute warrior and nothing will stop him from playing, mark my words: Kobe WILL Play! |

| It's easy to forget the pain when so much adrenaline is flowing but now that he is resting it could be worse than what we saw..... If it is a bad Kobe will play limited minutes but probably still play. If so this is a good opportunity to prove that these are the Lakers and not Kobe Bryant with special guest the Lakers. Should be interesting. I feel bad for Walton though, if I were him I'd want to hide in a cave! A cave with a basketball court in it so I can practice dunking instead of always going with layups. |

| Th training staff should determine if he can play because if he could make things worse. Hopefully it was just spasms and nothing more, spasms can go away with some rest. Even though he may have been dead set against it, I think the coaching staff should have shut him down. |

| Kobe is the toughest player in the League. He plays when most would not. He is also a notoriously fast healer. I would be shocked if he not only doesn't play but also play well. |

Watching Kobe only able to play on 2nd gear was just making my guts twist. I just felt sorry for the dude, it looked like superman with kryptonite injected in his back. He looked human.
With that said, I would have kobe sit out game 5 only because I think we can take the jazz without kobe. I believe that we're good enough. The way i weigh it out is: lakers with a kobe not being able to be kobe is worse than a laker squad without a kobe. Thats is just my honest opinion. It is a huge gamble not to play him tho in game 5. i doubt that he would sit it out, just because hes got that mentality; but that back injury is only gona be worse tomorrow than it is today. Unless the lakers staff can pull out a miracle and kobe's supernatural healing powers kick in, I'd say let him rest. |

Kobe Bryant said the back injury that sent him to the locker room, dropped him to his knees and had him wincing in pain throughout the Lakers' loss to Utah in Game 3 won't keep him out of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals Wednesday night.
"I'll play," Bryant said. "I can't imagine it being worse than what it was [Sunday] night."
Bryant
Bryant shot 13-for-33 in Game 3, making only 2 of 13 shots in the fourth quarter and overtime. He wrenched his back on a jump shot in the first quarter and it clearly bothered him throughout the game. At one point he was so landlocked that Utah's Andrei Kirilenko merely had to stand on his tiptoes and reach from behind to block Bryant's shot. His treatment has included electrical stimulation, ice, heat, massage and stretching.
After winning the first two games of the series, the Lakers dropped both games in Utah and are deadlocked at 2-2. The free-flowing offense and excellent ball movement the Lakers enjoyed at home disappeared in the face of the Jazz's better pressure defense in Salt Lake City. That was reflected in a dropoff of assists on 65 percent of the Laker baskets in L.A. to 44 percent in Salt Lake City.
"On the offensive end of the court we have to play with a -- 'purpose' is the term I use a lot of times," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "Sometimes we come down the court and we look like we're not purposeful as a unit."
Jackson said he expects Bryant to play, but that isn't his primary concern.
"What I have to do is prepare this team to play," Jackson said. Even in a wounded state, Jackson said, "We still think he's efficient in what he did and what we did as a basketball team."
When Bryant was asked if he should have shot so much after injuring his back he said, "I got some pretty good looks. They didn't fall down for me. Some nights they do, some nights they don't."
He said his greatest challenge is elevating.
"I'm glad we don't play tomorrow," Bryant said. "It'll give me another day to recuperate and get ready. I'll be ready to go."
In other news, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak spoke to NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson about the flagrant 2 foul Ronny Turiaf received in Game 4, and the Lakers don't expect Turiaf to be suspended for Game 5.

No doubt, If kobe could not play the Lakers are done for the season, but it is kobe and hopefully he plays and keeps everyone else involved. I do not entirely buy Phil's spin that the team stood around and watched Kobe set up for a shot. Kobe was looking for the shot in several instances in the 4Q and overtime. Of course, injury and Utah's asylum can make you do things that are not normal. The team must play the way they have and can. They almost had Utah in OT and that is amazing considering the issues with kobe and Ronny. They need to win back to back Wednesday and Friday so kobe's back can rest a bit before the next round.
Utah is a body team and may be the toughest match up for the Lakers.
Pretty easy to see how great it will to have Bynum play with this group for years to come, but lets hope for a better back and a little less nerves from the rest of the team. Fish, no early fouls, RT, no flagrant fouls, Luc slam it. |

| actually i'm reading the "Show" book about the Lakers and have just read one story about Isaih Thomas in the 1988 finals with a similar situations as this. he got injured in game 6 and said "I'll Play - period". this shows the warrior determination of players. |

I actually did the exact same thing to my back a week ago today... It hurts like HELL the first day, but the upcoming days it just hurts when you turn it certain directions while playing. I played in a game on Saturday and it didn't hurt that bad after I stretched.
Pretty much, he needs to use icey hott. It really helps. |
