Post subject: New sheriffs in the wild West?

a piece in the espn website got a few of the writers to label FACT or FICTION on a few things.. i thought that we can do the same on LTB.. here's the link so you get the idea of it..

so here my two cents:
1. FACT or FICTION: The 2008 playoffs mark the demise of the Western Conference triumvirate of San Antonio, Dallas and Phoenix.
FACT: PHX had their chance this year and they only get older next year. I think we all saw the decline in both steve nash and of course, the big cactus. I dont understand why you trade for shaq when with marion they should have won against the spurs. The spurs as you can see can not keep up with a team thats more energized and hungrier. The Mavs, well, they became a non-factor in my book after last seasons upset.
2. FACT or FICTION: The 2008 playoffs mark the ascendance of a new West triumvirate of Los Angeles, New Orleans and Utah.
FACT: The young teams of then have come into their own and have developed their own identities. All three teams have had their fair share of trials and now appear to have learned from them. In my opinion though, the LAKERS really never left. They, to me, only took a break.
3. Which team (or teams) has the best chance to join the West elite?
I see the Blazers coming out of the west as the next big dogs. They are young, athletic, and have a swagger that the western confrence demands. When the old young guy, Oden returns to the line up and when the former ROY in Roy adds more to his aresenal, I expect them to flourish in the next couple of years. |

| Portland will be a scary team. I knew from the end of last season that LeMarcus Aldridge will improve his game during the off season and he did. I see him and Oden dominating the paint for many years to come. I'm glad that we have Byno, Lamar and Pau. The west is going to get even harder next year and we're gonna need all the weapons that we have... |

I think the Sonics will be a 6-seed team in the next 2-3 years. So will New York, due to the fact of the many changes in their Front Office. Donnie Walsh is great. Plus, either having Avery Johnson, Mike D'Antoni or Mark Jackson as your new coach is wayyy better than having Thomas.  |

| I never understoof why Donnie Walsh has such a great rep, I mean isn't he the guy who drastically overpaid for JO and Tinsley. And traded Harrington and Jackson for Dunleavy? |

| Big Shot Rob hit another series winner when he body checked a pesky point guard plus two key players out of contention. Suns with Marion gave the Spurs all they could handle, that team could have played Cavs. |

Factual-ish. Dallas and Pheonix made major misteps in aquiring players too late in the season, and old players at that. I think Pheonix will be very competitive next year.
The Spurs have another gear that most teams don't. These guys have played together for so long and so well, that my guess is that they could, with a good trade or draft pick could stay on track to compete for championships for several more years. Besides, they seem to have the back-to-back jinx. The chances of their making it to the finals were against the odds anyway.
2. FACT or FICTION: The 2008 playoffs mark the ascendance of a new West triumvirate of Los Angeles, New Orleans and Utah.
Factual-ish. Utah is still a pretty good team, but for the reasons above, the Spurs are still more of a team to beat in the playoffs, and better than Utah. Utah still doesn't have as efective a tandum as Stockton/Malone, but Williams, Kirelinko and Boozer are very good. I cna see DW becoming as good as CP3 in a couple of years.
Greg Oden is going to break something else. I garauntee.
