Lakers unlikely to have Ariza for start of playoffs
Los Angeles Lakers forward Trevor Ariza underwent a CT scan Monday that showed the broken bone in his right foot was healing. He no longer has to wear a walking boot and can begin working out on an elliptical machine, but he probably will not be back in time for the start of the playoffs, coach Phil Jackson said.

I don't really think we are hurting in the number three position. Where the Lakers are hurting is the five spot. If we get Gasol and Bynum back, we should be in good shape going into the playoffs.
Don't get me wrong, I like the tall Ariza on defense and his ability to slice by the defender and score. But if he does not play until the second round if we are still there, the problem won't be because of the three spot. It would be something else. |

| oh man,, now this really sucks... drew im okay.. cuz i think we could do well without him, see he is not a necessity, he is an addition to an already good team, but ariza,,, he could relieve so much pressure from kobe in the defense,, and he is such a slasher, just the kind of player we need for our offense.. he is a BIG piece in the team,, he is our kind of X-Factor |

| Where did RJones get that information that Andrew would not be back until the playoffs? Have you got the link? |

Why did you bring up this old post? And I saw it, he said he's confident that he would be back before the playoffs started |

| This is bad but not terrible. When Drew commes back and mihm commes back, lamar would play 3. That means that vlad is comming off the bench, and kobe can play 3. But still I think we need trevor, he is great |

| I honestly don't think he's that big of a deal. We've played GREAT basketball without Bynum, with Gasol. GREAT basketball with Bynum, without Gasol. Imagine when both of them are ready. It will be unstoppable. Ariza is good, no doubt, but he's nothing amazing. Just a solid defender with no real offensive skills. Ariza is not going to make or break our chances at the title, like Bynum and Gasol will. |

| I as well saw the Sonics Ariza interview. I don't know if PJ is necessarily the best guy to use as time-frames for injuries. |

True Ariza has limited offensive capabilities.
I agree we have played great with Bynum, without Gasol and vice versa.
But when Sasha and Kobe ain't playing, who's going to defend the Paul Pierce's, T-Mac's, LeBron's?
LUKE WALTON?? Gotta be kidding me.
Ariza will. His defense won't make us the best defensive team, but he will make us better than how we currently stand. I don't think Captain Jack would've drained 6 3's tonight with Ariza defending him. Maybe he would have made 4 threes only. If you do the math, that's minus 6 points. Deduct 6 from G.S.' score, the final score would have been 111-109, in favor of the Lakers. Ariza is an important role player.
Each one of our players are an important piece to the championship puzzle. |

| I hope Ariza has spent his time wisely. He should be practicing his long range shooting, since he can't do much else. |

Ariza has been cleared for light practice, but not full contact. He will be re-checked again in about 10 days and should get the green light for full contact and to play. The team expects him to be playing within three days of him being cleared.
Bynum will not be back until at least the WCF or Finals and is not expected to contribute much when he does, playing limited minutes off the bench. |
