In Laker news, about two weeks ago, I was in Los Angeles at a local watering hole having a drink, when I had a chance meeting with an old friend with deep ties within the Laker organization. The subject of Andrew Bynum came up and I was commenting on how good it would be to have him back on the Lakers for the play offs. Anyway, he turns around and says to me, “Andrew is fine, the Lakers are holding him back as a precaution.” Then he mentioned that he’ll definitely be back and that was the end of the conversation. Now that the first round is over for the Lakers, and the Rockets have extended their series with Utah, it gives the Lakers a couple of more days to rest and heal. I was under the impression that Andrew was done, especially after Phil Jackson’s “remote chance” comment, but might the Lakers be saving Andrew as a secret weapon?

i dunno if he's right, cause he didnt get the clearance from the doctor, but there might be some truth in what he is saying. remember when amare tried to come the first time (i know his injury was much worse) he had no confidence in his knee and over compensated with his other knee and hurt that knee, lakers are probably making sure he has 100% confidence in it.

I don't believe this at all. It doesn't make much sense to supposedly have a player who is fine, but hold him out until the WCF, but he still has to knock the rust off.

It might be true take a look at this reported Bynum sighting

    Quote:

Last night I saw Andrew Bynum at Century City!

Me and my gf were going to see Harold & Kumar, but I wanted to watch the end of the Spurs/Suns game so we stepped outside to watch it at the bar by the food court.

With about 2 minutes left in the game, I spot Andrew Bynum walking towards us to go to the movie theater. He walked by with some asian girl (seemed like a date to me) and didn't even take a peek at the score! lol, I was shocked. My gf said it's because he's being a gentleman

Naturally, I was looking for a limp in the way he walks, but I didn't notice anything. He looked like nothing was wrong at all but of course he was just walking. Just wanted to let you guys know... I know it doesn't mean anything.

hopefully the Lakers will do a surprise introduction of Bynum at the first game of the 2nd round.
can you imagine it...kobe gets his mvp award and then they do the player introductions and the last player named is andrew bynum starting. Staples would be demolished by the cheers

You guys... Basketball is not like playing RISK. Teams don't hold on to that secret card and spring a surprise attack. There is no reason The Lakers would hide AB if he was healthy enough to go. Utah and Houston are busy getting ready for each other not the NEXT round they may or may not get to.

Someone brought up a good point about Amare Stoudamire. Delicate injuroes can sometimes be teh worst and take the longest to come back from. have you ever pulled a stomach mussel? It hurts so bad and for a long time because you use your abs so much normally. Talking reagravets it.
Imagine a ABs little injury that effect so much of his knee, even the smallest movement hurts it. It makes the healing process take even longer. And who knows, he's a kid, perhaps he went out and walked around on it more than he was supposed to early on.

Bottom line. If Drew can come back 100% healthy he will, but he'll be hella rusty. If he's still hurt AT ALL, he won't push it. NO ONE wants him to push things except for a few people on this board Io have noticed.
What I don;t think Drew hopefuls don't understand is even if he comes back, he most likely will be a non factor. He is out of conditioning. MBenga has more chance to do something productive right now. I don;t mean that as a smack to Drew, it's just getting back to GAME shape takes a while.
And when the team is focused on the playoffs, no one will wait up for him.

Lakersforthewin: There's a big difference between walking without a limp and running and jumping and most of all cutting. I know you didn't post the original words, but to say it might be true, come on now. I guess people assume injured players are living in a hyperbaric chamber in order to speed up the recovery process. Of course people will see certain players in the city, they like to get out also.

There's a line between optimism and foolishness, people are beginning to walk that line.

I thought this was a Laker forum and nothing but Laker fans. But after reading some of these negative thinking people, I just can't see how some of these characters can be Laker fans. It seems like they are hoping that Bynum does not make it back. I believe on positive thinking. You think positive and you will be surprised as to what a person can do. I can assure you that if the doctors don't feel like Andrew is ready, they will not give him the green light. But I also know how Phil Jackson thinks, and he does like to pull suprises on other teams. I can understand where AB needs to get in playing condition and who knows. Maybe he has been practicing already and we have not been told about it. Lot of teams don't allow the media into their practice sessions.

Some have said that the injury that Andrew had was exactly like Livingston. That is crazy! NO WAY! Livingston's knee complitely folded backwards and a complete reconstruction had to be performed. Andrew's injury was more of a deep bone bruise and knee cap.
Whether Andrew Bynum comes back or not, we got to think positive. But if he doesn't ? Then we will see him next season. Mbenga has been a great addition and should play more in the coming games against bigger centers. We also have Mihms which has not seen much action, but he is there if needed.

All those guys were coming from surgeries its a little bit different. What is a bit strange thou is that i havent heard if he started doing 1 on 1's or if he is just running or any other news. The only news i have seen i of him of late is of bynum dancing at a party which is a bit discouraging.

It sounds nice, but I am not sure about that......I could possibly be convinced that in the very near future he is playable but will work on getting as close to 100% as possible all under the radar till the WCF.
