| In your opinion, given our recent success, which player(s) (in the hunt for a ring; veterans) would be willing to take a pay cut to play with the Lakers?? Examples could be like Gary and Malone. Remember them? |

| i expect Kobe to take a paycut if necessary. Especially with his hunger for a few more rings, i would be very very surprised if he was confronted with the situation and responded with a $$$ hungry attitude. |

| If Kobe signs for around 15 million, Lamar goes for 7 then we'd be in great shape if Buss doesn't want to spend the cash. |

I don't think Kobe can take a pay cut until after next season, when he can opt out of his contract and re-negotiate. This is a tough call in my opinion as I am not sure his ego would allow for it. (Duncan re-negotiated his pay lower so the Spurs could re-sign key players to keep their core in tact.)
Lamar seems the most likely candidate to re-sign this summer at a lower rate, although he will not take 7 as Bynumite suggested (and rightfully so since he is probably the most versatile player in the league and ranks 25th in efficiency rating). But given his nature, he might be willing to come down a couple of million.
As for non Lakers, that is such a tough call. Malone and GP were basically at the end of their career and just wanted to win a championship. I think the difference might be that most players know that with a healthy KB, LO, PG, and AB, we should seriously be able to win the LO trophy several years in a row.
Seeing our potential and chemistry (no Shaq to make people wonder if there will be a family feud) could entice a key player or two to take a decent hit. With Fish getting a bit older and Farmar still leaving a lot to be desired, it would be nice to get a lengthier and more defensive-minded point guard. |

| What about us signing Arenas. That'd be crazy but ego's will collide. Biddy is a more realistic fit... |

| i dont think anyone is taking any paycuts. If kobe opts out of his contract its gonna be to get more money not to take a paycut. Artest already said his agent is against him opting out because there is no one out there with capspace, same with baron davis. |

| Anyone expendable. But then, those players aren't making extraordinary amounts to start with. I would think, really, only Kobe might be willing to do that. |

for most of these athletes, they make the majority of what they'll earn in their life within the 10-15 years they're in the league.
its a really difficult thing to take that cut.
i know i wouldnt if i was a pro athlete. |

Lamar for 7m at his prime is a joke. The least that Lamar will take would probably 10M. |

You shouldn't expect a player to take a paycut and then ask him to perform and deliver. How about I ask you to do more paper work at the office for less pay? Doesn't sound so much fun, huh?
What the players can do is compete and work hard for the right to earn the better paycheck.
It's a great rule in the NBA that guarantees the salaries and forbids contract reconstruction. |

That point guard would be Sun Yue.
Is there a site which lists how many years players have left on their contract, and their salaries? I can't seem to find one. |

Thank you, this is what I've been saying all along when the question was asked about Lamar taking a paycut. I'm not sure who is willing to do this but if it were me, I'd be asking for a raise. Now if it was someone from another team, that may be a different scenario. Some players will try and get on teams who have the best shot at a title and elevating their own value in the process. As far as the Lakers are concerned, I doubt anyone will be willing to "take one for the team" |

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm
and i say maybe we will just accept the fin case there is no way that in 2-3 years we can hold all these players even without fisher and lamar. |

yeah, the more i think about it, the more worried i am about keeping our team together. lamar's play has elevated a lot recently, and for us to ask him to take a paycut...i don't know how that'd affect his game. he did publicly say that he wanted to retire a laker, but at the cost of a couple mil? no one but lamar knows how much he'd sacrifice to stay in LA.
i wish the lakers would hire some stockbrokers for the team. learn to put those millions to use, damnit! i understand that these players are worried about their financial situations after they retire and need to milk as much as they can out of their careers, but 2 mil a year is plenty of money to invest! hire a financial consultant, anyone? teach them that money makes money. |

well we have pau and kobe(if he exercises his opt) til 2011... we also will have vlad, luke, and jordan til at least 2011... we will most likely sign andrew to a long contract once his current one comes to and end... we just need to get lamar, ronnie, trevor, and sasha signed on if that is what the front office wants...
i'll put my faith in mitch to make the right decisions... he proved that he can build a contender... now lets see if he can keep the team going in the right direction after this season... |

I think opt was talking about veterans, guys towards the end of their careers. Baron Davis and Gilbert Arenas are not coming to the Lakers; I repeat Baron and Gilbert will not be on the Lakers.
I could see a guy like Steve Francis taking the minimum, because that's all he can offer. I can also see JO, Brad Miller, Bobby Jackson, or Q Richardson taking eventual paycuts to get a ring.... |
