The Lakers are expected to shift Kobe Bryant to small forward on Tuesday night in their first game of the preseason.
Bryant shifts to small forward, with Derek Fisher sliding over to shooting guard and Lamar Odom moving from small forward to point guard.
Los Angeles big men Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum will take the court for the first time on Tuesday when the Lakers battle the Jazz.

| Man, I was expecting this. I prefer kobe at the SF postion, he plays closer to the baskett, I don't feel kobe is a wing player, he tends to take low percentage fade aways.... |

Just today and maybe some of the next preseason games noname24, it might become permanent but this is just an experiment, nothing major anyways! |

| I'm sure the pre season will be experimenting different positions with the players and rotations. I don't expect to see Kobe playing a lot, if any, probably more of a showcase of their younger talent to see who fits in where. As far as Kobe playing SF, that wouldn't be a bad thing, but not sure Fish would be able to fill the void left from Kobe. |

| I'm sure that will depend on how it goes. Kinda radical. A 6'11" point guard! WOW! |

| Maybe this could end up being a good thing. If Kobe can play the kind of defense he is capable of he could shot down any sf, and on a lot of squads that is the most dangerous position. (people who would burn odom) Even though it would diminish his offensive energy, I think we can afford it with the return of Bynum and Gasol who will flourish in his original role at the 4, this would just boost our perimeter defense and Kobe can still score whenever he feels like it and I'm sure a guy who can play with 4 fingers can manage to balance his energy and time if necessary. |

| CAZ: You lost me with Kobe playing on the wing? No matter the position KObe seems to be in his usual spots, except if he's playing the facilitator role. If Kobe switches from SG to SF within the triangle where does that put him? Usually Kobe bedns the triangle for himself and ends up isolating. |

when he is SG, he starts the offensive on the wing, at SF he tends to start the offensive in the post. |

| Kobe always wanted to play at the wing position. Here is his chance. |

| CAZ: Okay, thanks for the clarification. To me it seemed that he did whatever he wanted within the triangle, he seemed to post up whenever he wanted. I do feel Kobe has a great post game and since his jumper will be somewhat non existent due to his finger. |

This will be very interesting to see lamar at the 1 on offense
^bigearfarmar... just on offense ithink fisherwould be playing the two, however on transition Defense they are going to switch back, because you dont want lamar guarding people like CP3 nor DWILL lol |

| CAZ: You're not really wrong, here is what the problem is. These so called journalists are reporting things as if it's news and as if it's actually different. Yes, they may play Kobe at the SF position and slide Fish over to the 2 spot and Lamar at the point, but nothing will really change except positioning on the floor for the players except for Kobe. Has anyone noticed that Kobe still does what he does within the triangle whether he is the sf or sg? Last year plenty of times the Lakers finished their games with Sasha, Fish and Kobe at the 3. Kobe was still posting up on the wing, he was posting up on the wing when he played the 2 also. Tex Winters said Kobe knows how to bend the triangle for him to get scoring opportunities. |

| I agree Gemfow. Kobe would find his shot no matter what position he is playing. the kid is just that good. |

on defense Fisher had better play as point guard, Kobe as Small Forward, and Lamar at Shooting Guard
thats better
cuz most other shooting guards aren't gonna score on Odom as easily as a Small Foward like Paul Pierce can |

| In the triangle you can and have played Kobe at the 2 or 3 and there is no drop off in his performance. He has been playing the 3 off and on for years. this is nothing new. |

| JonathanDavid: If LO was covering a 2 on defense, I'd worry he wouldn't be quick enough to get through screens covering guys like Rip, D-Wade, Ray Allen, etc. Also, if Kobe is gonna play D against small forwards he may not have enough bulk to cover them close to the basket. Just my 2 cents... |
