If he's not 100% healthy, then he doesn't need to play. He is going to be one of our foundation pieces for years to come, so it would be stupid to risk further injury for one championship, when we could possibly be playing for several more later on w/a healthy Andrew. Besides, we're playing so well w/out him, why risk putting him in if he's not 100% ? I think we should make the finals w/out him. It would be great if he returned in finals, but if not, we'll deal with it.

I'm not, I want him as soon as possible. I'm not alright with not using him if theres any chance for him being back for the finals.

After watching us get killed on the boards yesterday, it made me realize how much we miss Bynum. I wish the solution was as simple as wrapping the knee and playing.

And he brings a natural Center in and gives us soooo much better defense.

Don't worry that writer is stupid... he gets "Bynum might miss some summer or beyond" From, Bynum will seek a second opinion" which is totally ridiculous.

maybe this guy will give him some good news and bynum stated that he needs a month to be able to come back and the finals start in a month but, then he also said he doubts there will be a comeback this year.

Lakers' Bynum doubts he will be back this season

    ESPN.com news services

    Updated: May 3, 2008, 2:18 AM ET

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum, who has been out since January with a knee injury, is unlikely to return during the playoffs, the Los Angeles Times reported.

    Andrew Bynum

    Bynum

"I doubt there's going to be a comeback this year," Andrew Bynum told the Times on Friday. "I've got to get my knee straight. At this point, I'd have to train for a good month just to be able to go out there and play."

The injured Lakers center is not planning to start practicing anytime soon. If the Lakers were to make the NBA Finals, the earliest start date for the series would be June 3.

Bynum briefly dislocated his left knee cap. He has a bone bruise in the same knee, which has caused him to sit out since Jan. 13. Bynum said the knee is no longer swelling but is painful.

"It's frustrating because I can do everything but what pertains to basketball -- running and jumping, defensive slides," he told the Times.

Bynum averaged 17.3 points and 12.2 rebounds in six games in January before he was injured.

at least they finally admitted it, we'll be OK

    GO Lakers!!!

Bynum could be back anywhere between the WCF-NBA finals

Ariza is supposed to be cleared for full contact practice later this week meaning he should play in game 3-4

I JUST HEARD THIS FROM SOMEONE CLOSE TO THE LAKERS ORGANIZATION THAT BYNUM IS GONNA NEED MICROFRACTURE SURGERY ON HIS KNEE OVER THE SUMMER. THE LAKERS TRAINING STAFF AND TEAM DOCTORS HOPED THIS WOULD BE THE LAST POSSIBLE OPTION. LOOKS LIKE THE INJURY WAS WORSE THEN WE THOUGHT. DAMN THAT SUCKS!!! BYNUM WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

(YOU SHOULD SEE THIS UPDATED A WEEK OR 2 FROM NOW IN THE L.A TIMES AFTER THE SECOND OPINION, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE MICROFRACTURE SURGERY IS GONNA BE IMMINENT FROM WHAT I HEARD)

Wow it is certainly a big blow! But is this source of yours reliable? I'm just wondering why the surgery would be needed in the summer when he could proceed with it right away. Just asking...

Old news really! It has been known almost from the get go (months ago) that he has a date with the knife! Can we please lay to rest all of the speculation about Bynum coming back this year. We are not hunched down behind earthen embankments, running out of ammunition, and facing our imminent demise. Bynum, will not be seen coming up over the hill to bugle blare, racing down the hill to save us all...

    See this: http://lakers.topbuzz.com/index.php?nam ... 880#162880

A note to those not familiar with MRI scans - the technique is just not the most adapt for discerning microfractures. So, for those of you who are confused as to why the extent of the trauma was not discovered before now - this is the reason. Other tests are required. I do agree, however, that they have sure lost a lot of time on this. The procedures required should already have been done (as soon as the acute traumatic phase around the articulation permitted). He should have already been in rehab by now for at least 3 months.

One last thing. This is not a career-ending injury - just a pain in the butt!

SORRY, WHAT I MEANT TO SAY IS THERE GONNA WAIT AND SEE WHAT THE SECOND OPINION IN IS, AND THEN PROBABLY GO THROUGH WITH THE MICROFRACTURE SURGERY. BY THE TIME THE SURGERY DOES HAPPEN IT WILL BE THE BEGGINING OF SUMMER Smile

A week or two in the la times when you know this as of now? That sounds a little weird to me. Wouldn't make sense to wait for microfracture until the Summer because it takes roughly six months to recover. I had microfracture surgery on my ankle in October, so apparently Bynum must have a cartilige defect of some sort if this whole thing is true.

I guess so. But a surgery does make sense and it could have been the first option just like cuckooroller just said, he should have been rehabbing for quite a time already by now had they opted for surgery early on.

Why don't we just wait until he gets his second opinion. If the second doc says surgery is needed, then he could be under the knife within a week or two and back by close to the start of next season. I'm sure that everyone in the organization, his doctors, and Bynum both know what's best and have been taking every precaution necessary. They probably did not do the surgery right away so they could be absolutely certain it would be needed. And since he is so young, hopefully he heals very quickly and, like the Bionic Man, he comes back better, stronger, and faster than ever.
