Rumor: Bynum might play Sunday
PORTLAND, Ore. — Andrew Bynum might make his highly anticipated return in a home game Sunday against San Antonio, Coach Phil Jackson said.
“There’s a chance,” Jackson said. “It would have to be under a situation in which he could practice on Saturday in a way that would convince me to play him on Sunday. Right now, we’re certainly not counting on that. It’s just really a longshot.”
Bynum will need to show he can move well “in traffic” at practice, Jackson said. The next morning will also be important in determining how Bynum’s knee reacts to a full practice.
Bynum would come off the bench if he played Sunday and would almost surely be limited in his minutes. He has not played since suffering a bone bruise in his left knee and a brief dislocation of the kneecap Jan. 13 against Memphis.
Bynum has not gone through a full practice yet, although he has taken turns playing one-on-one against Chris Mihm and assistant coaches Kurt Rambis and Brian Shaw.
Bynum is averaging 13.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots a game. He averaged 17.3 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots in six games in January before getting hurt.
The Lakers have one regular-season game after Sunday, playing host to Sacramento next Tuesday.

| If not then it is the last game against Sac. That is not enough time to get AB ready to meet Shaq in the first round. Or anybody for that matter. It will nice to have him back, but he is not going to be in sync for a few games and the playoffs is a bad time to be figuring that out especially since he has never played with Pau. Paul will figure it out, but AB is only 20 and inexperienced so his learning curve might be slower. Hope not. |

| Oh? You mean the guy who was supposed to be back by March 15th? I'll believe it when I see it. |

I don't think he will play at all the way this is going. I just hope he sees some time in the playoffs. I hoped he would be back in March. Hmmm...didn't work out like that. Now to bring him back against the Spurs of all teams seems unlikely.
Sadly, it is looking more and more like the only way we will see Andrew back healthy and in the starting lineup with significant minutes is to wait until next year. That seems like a lifetime away, but it will be here sooner then we think and it will be AWESOME!
The only thing I don't look forward to are all the trade rumors again until the deadline. |

| I would hate to see him come back against the Spurs for the simple reason that it is not beyond Bowen to go out there and manage to put himself in a position to injure Bynum during a play... something like boxing him out but making sure he gets AB's knee in the process. I think he'll be fine in the playoffs. We could start him, play him in 4 minute spurts, and also bench him when we have a comfy lead until he gets his wind and timing back. He will have to learn to adjust to Pau's presence in practice, and the limited time he'll be seeing on the court. I think by the WCF, he'll be where we need him to be. |

ouch. ouch. my hopes were lifted, sky high, with phil's suggestion that andrew might be back sunday.
well, that's that. we gotta play with what we've got. hope we match up to the mavericks in the first round. |
