Quote:
In a head to head comparison, Pau is playing like KG this year. Teams are terrified by Kobe's greatness. Next to Kobe, his impact will be felt even more because of LO's improved play and our X-factor: Big Drew. People are all gaga over KG, when our very own Pau is putting up similar numbers: PPG - a wash . RPG - KG by 1.0 rpg. BPG - Pau! FG% - KG. FT% - Pau! APG - a wash. They play about the same amount of mpg. So I would say that Pau has had just as much impact on the Lakers as KG has for the Celtics.
By the numbers:
Pau Gasol
PPG 18.9
RPG 8.4
APG 3.2
SPG 0.5
BPG 1.5
FG% 0.524
FT% 0.809
3P% 0.250
MPG 35.8
Kevin Garnett
PPG 18.9
RPG 9.4
APG 3.5
SPG 1.4
BPG 1.3
FG% 0.536
FT% 0.801
3P% 0.000
MPG 33.5
And then there is this little gem on YouTube to remind people of what Pau used to do to KG.
Bring on the Celtics because I ain't scared

yeah the stats don't differ too much, but as far as the question goes?
i say no. a lot of what kevin garnett does for the celtics can't be seen on the stat sheet. he's such a motivating presence on their team. imagine the celtics down at halftime against the lakers in the finals (which is something i DO imagine). imagine what kind of mode KG would be in the locker room. imagine what he'd do for the guys around him.
pau's a bit passive. our KG presence comes from kobe.
KG is their team's MVP. ours is undoubtedly kobe. |

Derrick Fisher/Jordan Farmar > Rajon Rondo/Sam Cassel
Kobe Bryant > Ray Allen
Lamar Odom > Paul Peirce
Pau Gasol ~ Kevin Garnet
Andrew Bynum >>>>>> baby |

| THeres an study out there that states taht Garnet holds his opponents to 13% less than position average in field goals. The intangible defensive presence that can't be counted as a block or steal but still alters his opponents shots. |

Gasol has helped the Lakers a lot this season, but Pau and KG's impact is not even close. Boston's success is directly from KG's leadership and play. Prior to this year it was Pierce's team, but not this year. The Celtics feed off of KG's presence and you cannot say the same for Pau.
The only way you can compare is if this was Pau's team and we know that is not the case. |

agree totally vinny.. and i have heard about that stats as well...
they used that to compare all the MVP candidates,
come to find out LBJ has the worst D among the 4,
then paul, then kobe, but best defender is KG...
as to the above quote:
"Derrick Fisher/Jordan Farmar > Rajon Rondo/Sam Cassel
Kobe Bryant > Ray Allen
Lamar Odom > Paul Peirce
Pau Gasol ~ Kevin Garnet
Andrew Bynum >>>>>> baby"
you just been drinking too much "lakerade"...
be a knowledgeable fan, please, thats all we ask for here...
Derek Fisher/Jordan Farmar = Rajon Rondo/Sam Cassel, (DRAW)
at best... a vet vs. vet and young gun vs. young gun...
we lakers fan hype farmar up so much,
but have you seen rondo lately? hes giving every team a hell...
Kobe Bryant > Ray Allen : edge (LAKERS)
yes agree. but the edge is not as big as everyone thing.
ray allen can light it up any time as well. but kobe do play better on D...
Lamar Odom < Paul Peirce : edge (celtics)
you must not be a basketball fan if you think paul pierce is less than LO.
Pau Gasol < Kevin Garnet : edge (celtics)
sorry, kevin is much better than pau... as an individual player AND a team player.
Andrew Bynum > perkin : (LAKERS)
this is the position we should exploit when we play them.
if bynum come back healthy, this will be the KEY... well, along with our bench.
posey, glen davis and cassel aint push overs either tho...
bottom line... we will see them when we see them,
lets jsut get through the west first, if we could.
but boston will be a good opponent, so dont talk like we can take them 4-0... |

Yes, I agree that there is a lot of Laker Cool-Aid on this site.
Rather a fatuous question really, but, all you have to do is look at last season and this season. We are probably (meaning us - the Lakers) about where we would be as far as improvement if we had had Bynum all season (and never got Gasol). We are + 11 in won games, with four to go. Boston, is + 38 won games, with five to go. Doesn't take a genius. |

| Sometimes stats overlook good defense. The numbers may be somewhat the same, but the defensive presence is not the same at all. |

| i have to be honest and say HELL NO....KG changed the way ALL the celtics play D......we still don't play D, and we have a great defensive player in Kobe....KG should be the DPOY hands down.....he is a FANTASTIC defender and changed the way their franchise looks @ D....KG DPOY |

I'm sorry, but not even Kobe has that defensive impact on his team as KG. If he did, we wouldn't be this horrible a defensive team. And it's not even the lack there of, it's the lack of passion at that end of the court is where the difference lies. |
