I created a new signature file and avatars album in the gallery:

You can upload yours using the "Add Items" link on the left. The thumbnail image will have a maximum width of 200 pixels which would be perfect for Avatars, and upon clicking on a thumbnail you'll see your avatar/sig resized to 400 pixels wide maximum. This will certainly help you guys will avatars/sigs that are too big.
