Since it is already nearing the end of the season, it is time to give out the NBA's 2007-08 awards.

Here are the awards that I have included in this post, not to mention those that I have made up:

    Best Trio in the League
    Best Trade of the Year
    Best Conference
    GM of the Year
    Coach of the Year
    Rookie of the Year
Most Improved Player of the Year
    Sixth Man of the Year
Most Valuable Player of the Year

Best Trio in the League: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics. The Spurs trio of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili get close dibs, but what the Celts trio has done in their first year is not even close. Best record means they have the best trio. The only clear cut favorite to unseat them in the East is the Pistons.

Best Trade of the Year: Not only did this season have one of the busiest trading sessions in years past, but it involved some big named players. Shaq, Matrix, Kidd and others relocated in hopes to "reload" their teams with playoff vigor. But the trade that was most talked about, and most lopsided, was the Lakers-Grizzlies trade. Talk about a heist! The Lakers not only retooled with the arrival of versatile big man Pau Gasol, but they have done it without giving their top ten players. Not only that, but the Lakers are set for the future.

Best Conference: The West of course! When did a season like this ever happen even in one conference? This is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and exciting runs to the playoffs in recent memory. Where can you find a 46 win team not making the playoffs? Only in this years Western conference race!

GM of the Year: He was lambasted the start of the year, but now he is glorified because of his genius trade. Mitch Kupchak has risen to be the savior for our Lakers, bringing in Pau Gasol for popcorn and some change. He is the clear-cut favorite to win it now if the Lakers go deep in the plyaoffs.

Coach of the Year: Byron Scott. He has led his team to the best record in the brutal West after a nightmarish season after Katrina. He has molded his young PG to be an MVP candidate. And most importantly, he can challenge for that title. Honorable Mention: Doc Rivers

Rookie of the Year: Al Horford. I believe that Kevin Durant will get his numbers no matter what becasue he is the only lone scorer in Seattle. Al Horford was one of the last missing pieces for the Hawks to run to the playoffs, the other was Mike Bibby. Horford provides them that inside presence they have been longing. He will be tested in the first round against the Celts.

Most Improved Player: Hedo Turkoglu. What will you do when the franchise brings in a player who plays the same position as you and pays him the max amount? You play better than ever before. Hedo has been the glue of these Orlando Magic, showing versatility and leadership all season long. Rashard Lewis gets the money, but Hedo will get his trophy.

Sixth Man of the Year: Manu Ginobili. Do I really have to explain why he wins the award? He wins it hands down, no questions ask.

Most Valuable Player: Now here is where it gets interesting... I believe the award should go to the player who has made his teammates better, who has persevered throughout the season, who has the ability to takeover games for them to win and ultimately is the best player in the L. This award should go to Kobe. Not just because I'm biased. Here are my reasons: Kobe has remolded his game this year to involve his teammates more, thus giving them confidence in themselves to play harder, i.e. see Laker Bench. He has persevered all season long, finding that balance in the team who is ravaged by injuries to their top players. Inspite of that, Kobe has kept them afloat in the tough West and is fighting for that top spot. Chris Paul has had a virtually healthy lineup whole season long. The only guy Kobe has played with the entire season, Derek Fisher, who too has an injury. He too has played with pain, having an injury to his right pinkie. Technically, Kobe has missed just one game, and that was the All Star game. Now that is a warrior. No question he the one player that you don't want to have the ball in the dying seconds of the game. He is that ruthless and cutthroat. And because he just simply the best in the L a couple of years running. LeBron and CP3 will battle it out for years to come, but Kobe has simply been sensational this year for the media to pass him up. Now go win us that chip!

I agree with all your awards but another legit candidate for rookie of the year is Al Thornton. He lit it up after the all star break. Good post Randy!

I agree, but Al Thornton has been doing a Jeff Green to Corey Magette's Kevin Durant. Similarity? They can't win.

Pareng Randy, you somehow get that sense that there's too much affliction and not affection for Kobe?

I get the feeling he won't win it.

That might not be such a bad thing if that maddens him and tears up everyone in his path. I personally want the MVP for him, but I prefer the hardware better.

I think he will have enough to win it Pareng Warren. I think the voters will consider that Chris Paul is still young and can win it in the future. But if he indeed does not win it, the rest of the teams better watch out!

I like the second part better. It simply involves more drama and its soooo LA. Once more, the local hero gets snubbed by the league that recognizes him to be their best player. He goes on to "I'll-show-y'all" mode and tears up everything.

Best Trade of the Year was the Garnett trade and the Best GM of the year is a tie with Ainge and McHale since they both aimed to better the Celtics.
